Tamuh | 7 comments Here's another one. I read it about 15 years ago give or take. The series is probably from the 80's. Basically, there's an alternate dimension of telepathic snake-people. One day one of these snake-people breaks the barrier which leads directly into the protagonists apartment.
They give him a new and improved body w/telepathic functionality no extra charge. He helps them out.
I remember at least one antagonist is human.
I remember the protagonist has 4 or 5 younger human guys that help him win. There is some type of military relationship between them.
I remember their music is made of smell.
I recall a point where the friendly snake-people have to break into an apartment.
I remember that humans are given the ol' mind-wipe and used as cattle or something.
I remember big spiders that eat people.

Just a blind guess, because your description isn't ringing any bells for me, but Serpent's Silverby Piers Anthony has "humanoid serpent people" according to its description. I haven't read it myself so I don't know if the rest fits.

Tamuh | 7 comments Nope, definitely not that. The humans and snake-people live in two different dimensions and were for the most part unaware of each other's existence until the first book.
