It talks about a boy named Tom who becomes the spook's apprentice which means he has to fight the side of evil to keep the land safe. That is the same as Harry Potter going to school to become the greatest wizard ever.

No. There are no friendly witches and wizards who fall in love and try to avoid the wicked Voldemort. Tom is torn from his family to apprentice with a grim man who spends his nights binding horrific supernatural creatures. He ends up trapped in a grave he cannot crawl out of waiting for dawn, when a witch will take his thumb bones for her spells before bleeding him to death.
