Liz My goal is to narrow down my currently-reading list. I'm not actively working on all of those books, a handful of them are rereads but most of them I was or am reading for class. I want to get it down to two books and keep it that way as much as possible. Right now I'm trying to read bits of The Dunciad before bed.

I would like to read 2 books over my 5 week spring break. One of these will be Beyond Ragnarok, a fantasy novel I picked up for three pounds at a charity auction. I haven't decided on the other one.

I would like to read at least 8 books over my summer break, including Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norell and Gulliver's Travels. This should last from June 2nd to about August 15th ish.

Wish me luck, I'll keep you updated with my progress!

Liz (lizvegas) ahhh another Liz A! Hi there, doppledanger!

message 4: by Liz (new)

Liz Thanks Lori and hi fellow Liz! I appreciate your comments. So far the only progress I've made is finishing The Taming of the Shrew...

message 5: by Liz (new)

Liz So I thought I should post again...another goal I've made for myself this semester is to keep up with academic reading, which has been going really well! Unfortunately, I haven't narrowed down my currently-reading list. For one thing, I picked up Why Men Don't Listen and Women Can't Read Maps because the title was iressistible--itwas enjoyable on the whole. I pick up the Dunciad and read few pages when I have time. However, I plan on picking up Beyond Ragnarok over break regardless just because I want to get through something for fun. My spring break starts in just over a week--maybe I can get The Dunciad finished by then!

message 6: by Liz (new)

Liz I've kept up with academic reading (The Comedy of Errors and some short stories this week) and finished reading The Dunciad tonight. This means I'll have time to finish A Theory of Adaptation before I go on vacation Tuesday! I know I need to read Dracula over this break, but for now I'll take Beyond Ragnarok for fun.

Liz Finished A Theory of Adaptation, even though it wasn't before I went on vacation. So, for the sake of keeping track of what I've read so far:
A Theory of Adaptation
The Dunciad
Beyond Ragnarok
Dracula
Coraline
Waiting for Godot
The Comedy of Errors

A Doll's House
The Cherry Orchard

JSou How was The Cherry Orchard?

message 18: by Liz (new)

Liz Chekhov is pretty depressing (yeah, Russian stereotype). It liked it, but I didn't love it. It's more enjoyable than Chekhov's other play Ivanov because in that one you get annoyed with Ivanov, which is kind of the point.
I read Crime and Punishment a few years ago and it was for school, and I was irritated by the pace of that because it set me behind on all of my other reading.
So generally, I"m not sure if I've been fair to the Russians, but what I know of them I don't love. I want to pick up some Tolstoy, and I've heard Dostoyevsky's other work is really good. I want to try re-reading Crime and Punishment soon.

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Congrats on meeting your goal! :D

message 37: by Liz (new)

Liz Thanks guys :) It's going to be a stretch, but I'm going for 75 in 2010!

message 38: by Dan (new)

Dan | The Ancient Reader (theancientreader) Stretching is good and I have no doubt you'll make your 75 next year.

message 39: by Liz (new)

Liz Thanks, Dan! I think I can do it. Graduating will help (unless I end up doing more schooling eventually). I read more than you can tell on GR because of academic articles.

Beth Knight (zazaknittycat) | 501 comments LOL, school is getting in the way of your reading!

message 41: by April (new)

April (booksandwine) | 954 comments I concur with you about school, it does get in the way of reading.

Congrats on hitting 50! You can definitely hit 75 in 2010.

message 42: by Liz (new)

Liz Well, sort of. I am an English major, and I actually knock off a lot of my TBR through school reading. But I have a long, ever-expanding TBR.

message 43: by Liz (new)

Liz Thanks April! Would've replied to you early but your comment took a bit to appear.
