Melissa I watched both of these trailers. They are both a bit long, I wanted to be done watching them about half way through and by the end I still wasn't really sure what was being promoted. I think they could be trimmed up a bit and be more effective. Either give more time to read the writing or put less of it in as well.

In the 2nd one I thought it would be more effective just quickly flashing each name of the country at the same time or quickly after each other then just showing war pictures rather than each individually with there own set of pictures.

I think you have some good concepts for the book but I can't really get a grasp of it from the trailer.

Tommy Jason Charles (tommyjcharles) | 4 comments I'm just going to be honest with you. I hope you don't take it personally. It's in the spirit of helping.

1. Video 1: 6:50

Video 2: 5:59

A book trailer should be between 30-90 seconds. That's how long you have to capture someone's attention these days. No one is going to sit through a 5 minute trailer. There are 5-7 minute short FILMS out there that struggle for an audience.

2. The countdowns are completely unnecessary, and kind of pretentious.

3. Your trailers seem to consist almost completely of plot summary. Trust me, no one is going to read these blocks of text.

A book trailer isn't a synopsis.

What you want to do with your trailer is build a sense of suspense and anticipation. Less is more.

If you can't encapsulate the central conflict in 30 seconds, then your plot is probably overly complex.
