Welcome to the climbing crew! Good luck tackling that pile.

Nadine Hello ! I am Nadine from Germany and heard about this groop in some youTube Video (not remembering the name of the Booktuber... sorry.
It sounds perfect for me. I already made up a list with some small challenges for me, one of them was to read 50 books that were on my ever growing book pile by the end of 2012.
I think I read 14 by now of those, but I am aware it will be getting harder and harder the "older" the new year is becoming and the more fresh and shiny books are begging to be bought and take away the attention to the "old" ones. (I love buying books and although I do read a lot, my purchases are still outnumbering my reads.)

Nadine Thanks :-)

Kimberly (poweki) | 17 comments I'm Kimberly. I'm an American living in Tasmania.

I'm an admitted audiobook junkie. I get two new books every month with a membership plus I stock up on books when they are on sale. I can't control myself! :) I currently have about 50 unread books in my library. I just joined this group today and am going to go for 60 books from my already accumulated pile (including those I've already read in 2013). To keep me honest, I'm going to list all the books I already have and tick them off as I get through them. It will take me a couple of days to get my list organized but once I've got it assembled, I won't add any newly-acquired books. It's a little embarrassing to see all those unread books listed in one spot - but it's also cathartic. The first step is admitting you have a problem, right??

Hi, Kimberly! So glad to have you along! Yes, you've taken the first step. Brave girl! Now to just take one step at a time on Mount TBR till you've got those 60 books conquered.

Nicole (bookfanatic73) Hello. I had a goal of reading some of our shelved books this year anyway so this is a nice challenge. My husband and I literally have thousands of books. Many were gained during the fill a bag for $2 portion of our library's annual book sale. I am going to start at the Mt. Vancouver level and see where I go from there.

Welcome Nicole! Good luck with Mount Vancouver!

Tasha Hi, I saw that Dawn ^^ has joined and as we are friends and I've thought about joining this group in the past, I decided to just go ahead and join in this challenge. Like Dawn, I'm involved in challenges this year to read owned books off my tbr and get some of these out the door to make room for new ones. Although I've read a bunch already I am going to start from scratch here to give myself even more incentive to keep reading from my owned /tbr books.

I live in Pennsylvania, just outside of philadelphia. I'm a stay at home, unschooling momma to 2 kids and an amazing husband. Reading is a passion of mine and a way for me to just recharge after being busy all day long.

Looking forward to having another reason to move along my pile on books! :)

Hi, Megi! So glad to have you join us. Good luck with Pike's Peak this year...and it sounds like you've got a good-looking mountain ready for next year.

Wiltshire Hermit Hi all! I think this challenge would be good for me as I've already been doing an unofficical 'read more than i acquire' thing this year and so started to attach an approximate date to all books I add to my shelves for that purpose. This should, in theory, make it easier for me to tell whether a book counts towards this goal or not. I've already been doing a '50 books in 2013' challenge and am up to 44 thus far, with 20 of those counting towards this 2013 TBR goal, therefore I'm going to attempt Mount Blanc for the remainder of 2013 (as I'm a VERY late starter here), and revisit the level in 2014. I shall go over and start my thread there now. Good luck everyone!

Nell My TBRs overcrowd the bookshelves, fill boxes and are stacked around my reading room. I am just joining this official group but I've been trying to achieve the 'read what you own' goal for a few years. I started tracking my progress with a special GR bookshelf in 2012. I will check there to see what I've read in 2013 and pick a mountain. Glad to join others with a similar goal.

I have only counted physical books purchased in previous years. Does this group also count Kindle books?

C. (Comment, never msg). (riedel) Hello Nell! Bev's lovely group includes the format that's 'thin air' to me (LOL). Physical books are my babies and I feel relieved to meet folks still using them. It's fun to hear what kind of spaces they dedicate at home and when I set up my new level, I'm going to ask for pictures! :)

My WONDERFUL comrades enter e-novels. They accumulate in their virtual way on computer. Whittling down any kind of list -as long as we own them- is what this is about. What with e-freebies, I imagine they can pile up to thousands. I buy used books in bulk the same way; if it's 50c or a quarter, I might bring home anything I'm half interested in!

Other than 'Roofbeam Reader' closing admission early and John's 'Canadian' going July 1 - July 1; join reading circles pretty much until the popular Dec 31 conclusion. It's fun to find we've already qualified several mountains, or creatively-decorated levels. Can't wait to see which tent you pitch - for starters! :) Carolyn.

Welcome, Nell! Yes, as Carolyn says--if you owned it before January 2012, you can count it--paper books, e-books, even audio books...they're all fair game.
