message 173: by Sonali (new)

Sonali V I finished #3 - 'Neverwhere'(Urban Fantasy).I feel the need to bite into something more substantial. So I'm starting on an essay on Brahma in The Upanishad. It is written in my mother-tongue, Bengali by our great poet and writer Tagore. I had read it 30 years ago as an under-graduate and have completely forgotten it.
I cannot thank the moderators enough for thinking up this challenge. It has forced me to explore and I'm enjoying it so much.

Great discovery experience!

Kim I've currently finished 8/36 and am slowly working on my 9th which is Lies My Teacher Told Me: Everything Your American History Textbook Got Wrong. It's a really heavy, in-depth, serious book so I'm only reading it in small chunks.

I'm running into a little bit of a budget problem trying to keep up with this challenge, and my small rural library isn't much help. I was wondering if anyone here would be willing to loan me any of these in Kindle format? I'm open to alternate suggestions too.

Cryptonomicon
Second Shift - Order
Through the Language Glass: Why the World Looks Different in Other Languages
Stardust
We Have Always Lived in the Castle
The Sandman, Vol. 1: Preludes and Nocturnes
The Monsters Of Templeton
The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle

Wendy Barlow | 97 comments Just read One Day for Romance. Didn't like it. Not my kind of thing at all. Not very likeable characters and no substance.

message 199: by M.L. (last edited Feb 18, 2013 02:58PM) (new)

M.L. | 309 comments Holes (Holes, #1) by Louis Sachar Wool Omnibus Edition (Wool, #1-5) by Hugh Howey Ready Player One by Ernest Cline
4, Holes children's lit - middle grade adventure, an old world curse lands a boy juvenile detention. This book was like number 1 until the boy wizard came along; been wanting to read it and glad I finally did.
5, Wool Omnibus Edition, post-apocalyptic, character driven, fully-realized world - this will end up as a movie, the special effects should be fantastic.
6, Ready Player One - cyberpunk - one of the most fun books I've read. This one should be a movie, it could have the most fantastic special effects. It's very visual, nostalgic and futuristic.

So far I've really enjoyed all the challenge reads and could easily re-read any of them, but too many other books!
