Possible reads for me:
1) Jurassic Park (Part is told by Tim and Lex)
2) Sphere by Michael Crichton (Set in the ocean, I think)
3) Zom-B Book 2 by Darren Shan (if it is out in time)
4) An Alex Cross novel by James Patterson
5) Interview with the Vampire by Anne Rice
6) Prey by Michael Crichton (Maybe?)
8) Cabal by Clive Barker (Movie is called Nightbreed and it is gonna be the next book I read.)
I am planning on reading every novel that Michael Crichton wrote early in the new year by publication date, under his name. So that is why there is a lot of his books on this list and all the books could change except for Cabal since I am reading that next for sure.

Time for me to start gathering books. I'm going to read Presumed Guilty by Tess Gerritsen to meet task #6 because the book starts with Miranda accused of murdering her boss/ex-lover. I'm gonna count ex-lover as being close to significant other :-) Sounds pretty perfect to me because I was already planning to read Presumed Guilty for the Tess Gerritsen Fans Group.

So one of the tasks is to read a book published in 2013? So we have to read that one in January or February :-) I was about to choose a new book but it was published in 2012

i'm not sure why read a new book month isn't in jan instead of dec lol - thought it would be fun to have a task involving new 2013 releases-not sure if i'm gonna do that task or not
I think I will read a book by Betty White that I recently bought at a thrift store to meet task #7 about a Beloved Pet. Betty loves animals and her beloved pets are a big part of her life story.

I am going to read The Vanishing of Katharina Linden to meet task #1. I have been wanting to read this book for a long time - the story is told through the eyes of a ten year old child and has supernatural/fantasy elements :-) sounds really good

#6 (rival magicians fall in love)

i might read The 13th Hour -it's a time travel mystery/thriller."
That one sounds interesting Rachel. I put it on my TBR.

I read that book..it was really good

I have tried to listen to this book twice and just couldn't get into it. Maybe if I read it I could get through it.

#6
(an innocent man accused of killing his wife gets a chance to travel back in time to try and prevent the crime from happening)

thanks j.s.! glad the book fits into the challenges.

i hope it's as good as it sounds-i've never heard of this author before.

i love sandra bullock and tom hanks but didn't love this movie. hope you enjoy the book.

[bookcover:Along Came a Spid..."
I am right now reading Along Came A Spider, I am 150 pages from finishing it! I love the mystery and crime solving in it. What I don't like is that James Patterson makes sure to constantly remind you Alex and his partner are black and the relationship between Alex and Jezzie. It just seem way too forced and also the constant reminder of it being an interracial relationship. Those are my only complaints with the book.
Michael Crichton wrote my favorite two novels Jurassic Park and The Lost World. I have also read Prey, it is also really great. I am sad to say I have not read any of his other novels. I own all of the ones he put out under his name except for two of them, The Great Train Robbery and Micro. I figured I would pick up the two I don't have and then read them all.

Which book is everybody hoping Santa will bring them for Christmas? I am hoping for The Chronicles of Downton Abbey: A New Era I'm not sure if it will meet any of the criteria for this challenge but it will satisfy my need for another season to begin.

i'm hoping to find The Night Circusunder the tree -really excited to read that one even though it's not my genre.

sounds like another crazy goodreads glitch-hopefully you won't experience any further problems with books posting

I have heard really good things about this book too. Its been in my TBR pile for a while.

Next book I am starting tomorrow morning:

You mean the Clive Barker book ? :-) The author's name is Clive Barker and printed larger than the title of the book.

Currently reading "The White Darkness" by Geraldine McCaughrean, it can qualify for either part of the book written from a child's point of view or set in a cold climate.
Always wanted to start the Alex Cross series and what a perfect time to start!!
Thinking of reading either "The Help" or "Eat, Pray, Love" for the movie challenge.
Thanks again!!

To be honest, I was halfway through the book when December 1st hit. lol. I finished it the night of the second. I was up until 2am because I was hooked on finishing it. XD I actually started the book in the beginning of November... then Resident Evil 6 took over my life for the rest of November. XD

Rachel, is it okay to finish a book and count it - I'm just curious because I started reading The Land Beyond the Portal for the Fall Challenge but I will finish the book tonight and it does meet the requirements for both challenges so can I count The Land Beyond the Portal as part of my Winter Challenge or is that cheating? What do you think? :-) and to further explore this inquiry...let's say I have been reading a particular book on and off again for several months or years and the book meets the challenge and I finish it during the challenge period can I count it or is that cheating?
I guess the real question I am trying to ask here is does the book have to be started and finished during the challenge period to be counted? (I am of course not trying to get Josh in trouble :-) but I want to know if I can work the system to my advantage - btw I cheat at Monopoly)
Thank You :-)

btw what book have you been reading for several months or years?
p.s. you should never cheat at monopoly ;)
A couple of books I have been reading for several months to years (haven't given up on finishing them) include NO GREATER SACRIFICE by John Stipa and AMONG THE MISSING by Dan Chaon.
