What do you think of it?

Chelsea (shellsea) It's an amazing book! I'm so excited to watch the movie :)

Janussa | 5 comments I am so happy you guys are finally reading a few books I own! So I will probably read this just for the movie.

message 4: by Mel (new) - rated it 4 stars

Mel I can't wait to see the movie! :D It's gonna be so magical!!! I really enjoyed this book. :)

Karina I adore this book! I wish someone had read this book to me when I was younger, that would have been incredible.

Allison Urban Reading it just for the movie.

And peer pressure.

You should read it

Chelsea (shellsea) I read on many articles that they wanted James McAvoy to play Bilbo, but he was too busy.. Too bad, I really like James . But I think I'll like Martin tooo :)
He's a cute hobbit, haha ^.^

Michelle Kobus (rainbowsunset) I've read it multiple times in the past 11 years since LotR came out, and I read it again this year for the movie. I even used to have a Hobbit video game for PS2. I really love The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings. :)

I love James!

Michelle Kobus (rainbowsunset) Nothing against James, he's a great actor, but I think they made the right choice with Martin. He looks a lot like a younger Ian Holm, who played Bilbo in LotR.

he is not supposed to be young. He's 50

Michelle Kobus (rainbowsunset) For a Hobbit who lives past 130, he is young!

Michelle Kobus (rainbowsunset) Besides, I said youngER lol ;)

Allison Urban What page is everyone on?

message 17: by Emily (new)

Emily | 2 comments I havent read the book yet but my mum says i should because she read it a long time ago and now ive seen so many good things about it i am going to read it!

Elaina | 2 comments On chapter four, loving the book so far. I cannot wait for the movie, already bought the midnight tickets.

Nikki Sojkowski (nikkisoj) | 868 comments I read the hobbit last year and haven't re-read it (I don't think I will) but I liked the book and am so psyched for the movie! Who ever decided that it would come out in a Friday (meaning that the midnight premier would be Thursday night/Friday morning) was a total IDIOT. Some people have lives that thy have to live on Friday! Classes/jobs to be done! I got tickets for Friday night :D

Michelle Kobus (rainbowsunset) Almost all movies come out on Friday, so I don't think it will change anytime soon LOL ;P

I saw an interview with Martin on the Today Show last Tuesday that said Peter Jackson was so set on Martin that he delayed the shooting scheduale because Martin was filming Sherlock....

Nikki Sojkowski (nikkisoj) | 868 comments I'm just not looking forward to seeing it in 3 parts

Michelle Kobus (rainbowsunset) But at least it won't be a year between EACH movie: The first 2 are a year apart and then the 3rd will be released over the following summer, at least that is what I hear. But I always liked long movies, so it doesn't really bother me :)

Tiffany (ladyfalcon) | 34 comments Nikki *Otaku wrote: "I'm just not looking forward to seeing it in 3 parts"
O.O 3 PARTS?

Ariana Yeah its along the same format as the lord of the rings.

Ariana And the hobbit is an amazing book. I was given it when I was 8 and have been re-ewading it ever since.

Allison Urban Finished! Can't link my review because I'm on my phone, but you can find it on my profile.

Ariana *re-reading

Yeah but it's still 2012, 2013, 2014... So a year apart

Nikki Sojkowski (nikkisoj) | 868 comments Ariana wrote: "Yeah its along the same format as the lord of the rings."

Yeah, but those were 3 separate books! So it was one movie per book. This is 3 super long movies for ONE book

Nikki Sojkowski (nikkisoj) | 868 comments I just saw the movie it was super intense!! But I'm pretty sure 1/2 of what happened wasn't in the book at all... At least there was Golem. He scares the living hell out of me, yet he's my absolute favorite character for some reason.

Patricia (Night Readings) (nightreadings) | 4 comments I watched The Hobbit on the midnight premiere and fell in love with J.R.R Tolkiens world all over again.

Today I received the book in my mail and I am already devouring it! ;)

R.M.F. Brown It's an interesting book, but I have doubts about stretching it to three films. Still in a few years time when all films are out on DVD, it'll be good to have a marathon film session of watching 6, 3 hour films, back to back in chronological order.

Allison Urban The movie just added so much. I slept for a couple minutes, because it just didn't follow the book. Two out of five stars for the movie, four of five for the book.

message 35: by Anna (new) - rated it 4 stars

Anna (cheeruppirate) The movies are not just taking from The Hobbit but also from other Tolkien writings that fill in the story of Middle Earth. It's actually 3 movies covering writings from about 6 books (if I remember correctly). That's why it's so spread out but it is all very much canon.

Allison Urban Anna, just a question, there are only four books by J.R.R Tolkien. What other two books are you talking about?

Nikki Sojkowski (nikkisoj) | 868 comments Allison wrote: "Anna, just a question, there are only four books by J.R.R Tolkien. What other two books are you talking about?"

What are you talking about? J.R.R. Tolkien has like 40 something books... All concerning Middle-Earth...
The Silmarillion by J.R.R. Tolkien The Children of Húrin (Middle-Earth Universe) by J.R.R. Tolkien Unfinished Tales of Númenor and Middle-Earth by J.R.R. Tolkien etc. etc. etc.

message 38: by Ela (new) - rated it 1 star

Ela I though the movie was great, I loved Gollum, he was so freaky! And I thought they did a really good job of creating the dwarfs backstory. It was really long though, I kept thinking it was the end and then something else would happen.

However I'm sorry to say that I can't stand the book, I had to absolutely drag myself through it.

message 39: by [deleted user] (new)

I haven't read the book or seen the movie, my brother wouldn't let me watch the movie because he thinks I'm 10 years old >.< and it was apparently "too scary" for me.

message 40: by Ela (new) - rated it 1 star

Ela Aww bless! Have you seen. Or read LotR ?

message 41: by [deleted user] (new)

Nope.

message 42: by Ela (new) - rated it 1 star

Ela I think they are better, and I prefer the films to the books, so try working on you brother about number one (or just sneak off and watch it :D)

message 43: by [deleted user] (new)

Haha! I think I definitely will. :)

Lynne The Hobbit is not my favourite Tolkien work, but i still enjoyed it. Haven't seen the movie, but I want to see it eventually.

Oh my gosh yes!!! Gollum is SOOO creepy and amazing! "We eats it whole!" *shudders* I love Gollum AFTER the movie. Every moment it's his scene, I'm absolutely terrified.

3 seperate years, but not actually 12 months between all films.
