My mother broke a hip in November and had surgery with some lingering cognitive effects, so I may need to plan for fewer next year. I'm going to debate that point with myself for the next few weeks.

My goal again this year (2012) was 52 books, an average of one per week. I have finished 40 so far and have hopes of getting a couple more done this month, but I doubt I will meet my goal this year. I spend 1/4 of the year, about a week each month, at my father & sister's house (caregiving) and I rarely get time to read while I'm there. That has made a difference in my ability to meet my goal, I think.
But I probably will set the same goal for next year.

I'm a caregiver at the opposite end of the spectrum - life with a toddler doesn't leave much reading time either. Before he was born, I averaged 70-75 books a year, not counting re-reads. I've been able to read more the second half of this year now that I can count on the fact that once he's down for the night I won't hear from him again until morning (most nights, anyway), and I'm on track for probably 45-50 books this year.
I don't set goals, I just read what I have time to read.

I think I'll have to set my goal next year at 50. Not very many ...but even that will be difficult for me.
Books on tape/dvd are not an option for me at this point.
:(

Right there with you. 60-80 books per year pre-baby, under 30 since.
But, as you say, since I can count on bedtime now, I'm hoping to up my count next year. Something conservative, like 40 books, since we have yet another move coming up next summer.

I think that defeats the purpose of reading for Pleasure.
Basically my plan is to attempt to read some good books. Sometimes it doesn't work out LOL.
Now I am thinking about it. I want to finish up some series I have been reading
