Inspired by the Peter Pan thread -- a "retelling with a dark or horror twist" might be a fun category.
And maybe "fairy tale mash-up" (i.e. story with elements of several/many tales in it.)
Perhaps "well-known anthology"? (ex. Arabian Nights, or Grimms, Anderson, Calvino, Perrault?)
I'm not opposed to countries either. I've had a good (but surprisingly difficult) time this year looking for novel-length retellings of non-European tales.

In all honesty, I like most the ideas presented.

Ooh, goodie...
I'm making it one of my New Year's resolutions to read Anderson and Calvino's collections.

I should note that traditional collection on the challenge simply means a collection of traditional tales. Anything by Grimm or Andersen would count but so would collections by Jane Yolen, Briggs, those in the Panetheon series, Lang etc.
