Seems like an interesting way to promote your book on Amazon. I think we need more of these author type of communities. I'm glad there's one out there to support one another =)

They are about a lot on facebook. I am not sure what they achieve, but I end up buying them:)

I was a part of those, for a little while, but then I realized that the "you mike like these..." messages I get from Amazon started offering me books I had zero interest in. I did some research and found that Amazon uses the LIKE button to further your interests for their marketing department.
There are also tagging festivals. As far as I can tell, both have zero impact on sales or ranking.

I think once the tags are agreed extra likes to them may or may not achieve anything. I heard a rumour Zon are getting rid of tags.

I guess though you get to see books you may not otherwise see, If you don't to buy them then don't. But you might find one you like.

I too have heard that Amazon are closing down the tagging system.
