Shawn (shawn123) | 21 comments Hello all,
I am new to the group and am a bit awed by the number of books in the list that I have not read or even heard much about...so I want to ask...

What books from this list have you read and absolutely loved? Personally I want to start with those.

Thank you,
Shawn

Shawn (shawn123) | 21 comments I just counted and I have read 39 from the list as an adult (and quite a few more in high school and college that I did not count). My list of favorites may be skewed a bit because I have been trying to reread the classics AND I tend to read and favor books that give me an insight to a different time, country or culture.

My favorite from the list so far are:
+ The Scarlet Letter
+ To Kill a Mockingbird
+ I know why the caged bird sings
+ Memoirs of a Geisha
+ The Hitchhikers Gide to the Galaxy
+ The Catcher in the Rye
+ A town like Alice
+ Of mice and men
+ The Grapes of Wrath
+ Uncle Toms Cabin (although a bit disturbing)
+ The Great Gatsby
+ Out of Africa
+ The Poisonwood Bible

Yrinsyde | 295 comments Hi Shawn, welcome! I haven't been that active this year because I was following another challenge, but my favs have been Buddenbrooks, Of Mice and Men, The Diary of a Nobody (a hoot!) and A Town Like Alice. I also love To Kill a Mockingbird but I haven't reread it for this challenge yet.

Melissa Blessington | 19 comments Fear and Loathing In Las Vegas will always be my favorite book period. It will have you laughing your pants off! Plus the movie version is great as well.

Shawn (shawn123) | 21 comments oh wow that has never been on my reading list and I lived in Vegas for quite a few years a while back. Will have to add it.

Deanne | 681 comments The Crow Road by Banks, has one of the best first lines in a book, "The day my grandmother exploded..."

message 11: by Jonpaul (new)

Jonpaul Brideshead Revisited by Evelyn Waugh and Catch-22 by Joseph Heller. Adored both. Infinite Jest is also a favorite if you're up for a longer read. Do not skip the footnotes.
