The Flooze (the_flooze) | 1593 comments I just had a story pop into my head, but can't for the LIFE of me place where I read it. Help!

Main character is a succubus who lives in a winnebago so she can make quick getaways. She can age at will and has a friend who is a witch. There are some X-files-like agents who may be on her trail. She comes home one day to find a naked and injured guy on her "lawn" and takes him in only to find out he has amnesia. Story moves on to include some portals to other worlds, ley lines, a sorcerer, and the discovery that the guy is actually not a guy at all, but a repository of magical knowledge come to life.

What the HECK did I read?!

Thanks in advance for the help!

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 1593 comments I'm pretty sure it was part of an anthology...

::grumblegrumblegrumble::

I am so taking my books apart tonight to find the damn thing.

Mary Beth (marybethbaker) Hi Michelle, I believe you're looking for the story "Originally Human" by Eileen Wilks. It is in the anthology "Cravings."

Enjoy!

THANK YOU, Mary Beth!! This is what happens when you read too many things in succession!

I really liked that story too Michelle. I wish Eileen WIlks would write some more about this world. I thought it was really neat. And who else would LOVE to know what happens eventually with the Goddess that cursed the main (female) character?

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 1593 comments I was asking for the story ID because I was hoping she had written more with those characters.

The story is related to the World of the Lupi series-have you read any of those yet?

They're on my dear old TBR, but they seem far more gritty than the short.

Adrienne okay story line is something like this:: hot male vamp held captive in paris dungeon:: tortured over and over again:: each time he dies he comes back to life only to be tortured again etc:: anyone know him please?:: I've read that many reviews for books that i think i may have become a touch confused and bewildered Ha HAa

Nichole (DirrtyH) (dirtyh) Hmmm....
It sounds like A Hunger Like No Other by Kresley Cole, only he's not a vamp, he's a werewolf.
But he's definitely held in a Paris dungeon, and then he smells his mate (who is half vamp) and ends up ripping his own leg off to escape so he can find her. (Yuck.)
So-so book, but a start to an AMAZING series that you must read!

I'm with Nichole. That's the first book that came to mind. The only thing that threw me off is that he wasn't a vamp but a werewolf.

new_user | 1389 comments Yep, either A Hunger Like No Other or maybe one of the Darkyn books, Night Lost or If Angels Burn ?

I agree with Nichole--it is definately A Hunger Like NO Other. That's the only one that I can think of that has that beginning. It really IS the worst of the series--but then, the first book where the world is having to be set up usually IS. There are several short stories that go with this, but you really don't need to read them, unless you really want to. :o) Check Amazon for the titles of the books that Cole has contributed short stores too and then go to the library. That's really the BEST way to handle anthologies. Unless of course, you are totally OCD and HAVE to have everything that goes with a series (hastily moving in front of bookcases.) But hey--we wouldn't know anyone like that would we?

Nichole (DirrtyH) (dirtyh) Ann, I thought the only novella/piece from an anthology was the very beginning of the series - Myst and Nikolai's story? And she has another coming out later this year, but otherwise all the stories are full novels? Am I missing something important?
(Important in the sense that I'm completely addicted to this series and would devour anything having to do with it.)

I thought there was one other short story--but when you read as much as I do, you can sometimes "remember" a story in the wrong series. Will see if I can find the story that I vaguely remember, and if not, then its only the Mist and Nikolai short. Which I DID enjoy greatly. Rats, now this will bug the you know WHAT out of me--especially since Oz has a bunch of my recent (meaning the last year or so) purchases at HER house. Still, I'll be over there Friday as we are planning on doing some serious sewing in prep for CostumeCon 2009. Its back on the East Coast for the first time in a LONG time, so we are getting to GO. (Cheer, cheer) CostumeCon is a convention for costumers. There are a LOT of competitions, plus classes, vendors, books, book, more books, and people to just TALK to about costuming. (anyone else on the ec that is interested and not aware of it--its being held in Baltimore, MD in May.) That's one of the many events in May that have Oz (and to a lesser extent, me) pulling our hair out. Mother's Day, Oz's birthday, my anniversary, CostumeCon, Balticon (Scifi convention that we started attending back when Oz was a kid) lots and lots of things to do.

Jennifer (jen421) | 201 comments Yeah, it sounds like A Hunger Like No Other to me as well. Lachlain was held for about 250 years, and his imortality keeps bringing him back to life after he's burned over and over and over...
