Kathryn Anyone dive into The Little Stranger? It's the decaying old-money family in creepy house genre, if you know what I mean. The action is exceedingly slow but the writing is fabulous, in my h.o.

Give it a try! And write back to me. None of my r/l friends read this kinda thing but I thought it was really well crafted. She has a great control of tone and mood. The plot, well, not so much.

Amy I loved this story, for the writing and how the feelings and emotions that came through the writing.

Lauren Stoolfire Last year I read this novel for a English course. I love the author's writing style. Although it is relatively slow, it was effectively creepy! :)

Sue Kendrick Agree it is slow, but that seems to add to the menace which creeps up on you. I found this a real chiller as the characters were oh so human even though the time period isn't extant.

Definitely one of my favourite chillers which carefully reveals the frailty of human emotions through sensitive and intelligent writing.

nettebuecherkiste Absolutely loved it! I thought it was so creepy in the best sense. Especially the end!

Iza Moreau The book was well written, but went to places I really didn't think it should go. Waters may be the best novelist on earth at the moment, but this one is my least favorite. Read anything else of hers, particularly Night Watch.

Paul I pretty much agree that it was well-written and atmospheric, but the ending left much to be desired. I like that it was subtle, but ultimately it was too subtle, I thought.
