Walter Spence (walterspence) I have been active, over at the Sword & Laser book club here on Goodreads, in trying to get independent books a shot as alternate reads when the Book of the Month is a well known classic. One of the moderators has asked, in one of the threads I started devoted to this subject, for recommendations for book blogs which 'separate the wheat from the chaff'.

Is anyone here familiar with a book blog with an excellent reputation which gives attention to the words of independent authors, and which sets a high bar for what independent works it considers exceptional?

I had hoped that a thread devoted to indie recommendations would work, but at least one recommendation has had multiple recs from posters for whom said rec was their first Goodreads post. After reading half a dozen or so of these, I fear the group moderators are concerned about a potential tsunami from the similarly unrestrained, and would prefer a more unbiased source of recommendations.

Sky Corbelli | 114 comments What? You mean you found all those posts for a book that just came out a month ago and only has reviews by the same people who recommended it fishy?

There is, of course, the blog associated with this book club, http://indiebookblogger.blogspot.com/, that reviews indie books exclusively.

I've also found http://indiereader.com/ to be pretty good with their reviews, although they seem to do more romance and non-fiction in general. They were also interviewed for a Bay Area News Group article on self-publishing, if that counts for reputation.

Eric Quinn (eqknowles) I could recommend our host and moderator's blog: http://indiebookblogger.blogspot.com/

*cough* Ahem.

Kevin Mullikin | 56 comments I agree with Sky. IndieReader.com is a very reputable blog/review website that even has somewhat of a professional relationship with Kirkus reviews (if you're unfamiliar with Kirkus Reviews, they are like THE name in book reviews).
