message 1: by Sandra (new)

Sandra (sleo) | 1913 comments Ok, I'm going to try something a little different this time around by limiting the number of nominations. A list of twenty books is overwhelming and also dilutes the group vote enough that lots of people don't like the books that win.

So, have at it. The first 12 books to be nominated and seconded will be on the list to vote for.

The usual rules apply! Please READ them!

1. All nominations need a second.
2. Books must be available in a variety of formats and countries.
3. Authors may not nominate their own books.
4. All books need a link or they will not be eligible.

As I have been doing for the past couple of months, I will make the group private during the voting process to avoid unpleasant situations with authors loading the dice by asking friends and fans to vote for their book.

Go for it!

message 4: by Margot (new)

Margot (freezebaby) I'll nominate Paladin of Souls, the next book after The Curse of Chalion which we're reading this month.

message 9: by Jelmer (new)

Jelmer | 16 comments Did we do Red Seas Under Red Skies yet? If not I nominate it :D

message 10: by Emy (new)

Emy I'll second Among Thieves. :)

message 11: by Debbie's Spurts (D.A.) (last edited Dec 16, 2012 12:17PM) (new)

Debbie's Spurts (D.A.) Is it me or is the fantasy genre at goodreads useless for locating a nomination? I really wish they'd have "urban fantasy" and "science fiction and fantasy" separate. (I read both depending on the mood but "normal" fantasy reads are so bloody buried!)

message 12: by Sandra (new)

Sandra (sleo) | 1913 comments Jelmer wrote: "Did we do Red Seas Under Red Skies yet? If not I nominate it :D"

We've done the first one. All books need to be first in the series.

Sandra (sleo) | 1913 comments Martha wrote: "The Cartamandua Legacy - Carol Berg http://www.amazon.com/Cartamandua-Leg..."

Better known as the Lighthouse Duology - Flesh and Spirit being the first one. I'll second that, if that's what you're meaning to nominate, although one really must follow it immediately with Breath and Bone.

message 14: by Cliff (last edited Dec 16, 2012 01:48PM) (new)

Cliff Lewis (thatnerdcliff) I nominate Control Point - Myke Cole

message 15: by Jakub (new)

Jakub (jnareb) | 44 comments We have read "Lies of Locke Lamorra" (the first book in the series) on 2009/09 according to group bookshelf, so Red Seas Under Red Skies by Scott Lynch should be all right.

Seconded.

message 16: by Jakub (new)

Jakub (jnareb) | 44 comments I'd nominate The Hob's Bargain by Patricia Briggs, a single (not in series) fantasy story, but I don't know about it availability...

...it is on Amazon, though http://www.amazon.com/Hobs-Bargain-Pa... also in Kindle edition (WTF? electronic version more expensive than physical book???)

message 17: by Heather (new)

Heather (scoobagirl) I second Control Point.

message 18: by Gary (new)

Gary Bonn | 5 comments Tales of the Shonri (City of Lights) By Stephen Godden
Tales of the Shonri: City of Lights

message 19: by Debbie's Spurts (D.A.) (last edited Dec 16, 2012 02:07PM) (new)

Debbie's Spurts (D.A.) I'll second The Hob's Bargain. It is a fantasy standalone despite author's more popular books in urban fantasy genre. I did see actual paperback recently in Barnes and Noble brick and mortar store.
The Hob's Bargain by Patricia Briggs

Apparently you didn't read my post above. Only the first book in the series. Too many people haven't read the first book.

Rule 3 in message one, authors cannot nominate their own book. Yours look like they would be of more appeal to urban fantasy and paranormal groups. There's a lot of crossover particularly nowadays but generally I think we're usually the science fiction and fantasy type of fantasy ... Think The Hobbit and peruse our bookshelf.

Debbie's Spurts (D.A.) If we can second more than one, I'll also second Arrows of the Queen

Kevin Xu (kxu65) | 530 comments Kyle wrote: "I'll second Bridge of Birds: A Novel of an Ancient China That Never Was."

I'll allow this since we just read the first one. Also these aren't all that related, are they?

thanks

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 772 comments No the Bujold books aren't all that related. I liked the first 2 but thought the 3rd failed. It didn't ruin the first 2 however because they are so "stand alone".
