Michael Underwood | 6 comments Hello, all. I found this group after MrsJoseph asked me about a print edition of my novel
Geekomancy.

Geekomancy is a comedic urban fantasy where barista and aspiring screenwriter Ree Reyes discovers the crazy magical world of her city and teams up with a scruffy looking older geek, learns to use magic drawn from her love of pop culture in order to stop a string of teen suicides.

My website is here, with lots more about the novel. The sequel, Celebromancy, is coming July 15th of 2013.

Cheers,
Mike

FYI, I guess the way goodreads deals with different ebook platforms as separate editions, if you try to search availability on the book page above, you only get a listing at Google Play. I had to manually search on B&N for the NOOK edition.

Are you talking about the green buttons under the book? Unless the incorrect ISBN number is there, it's either GR's fault or B&N's fault.

B&N is (from what I hear) in the process of stopping the use of the regular ISBNs the same way Amazon uses an ASIN. GR wasn't/isn't set up for the ISBN to change for B&N. I guess they are going to change that?

Robert Wright (rhwright) | 130 comments I think it's a little of both.

For DTB (pretty much) an ISBN is the same everywhere. With eBooks, the Kindle edition will have its own ASIN, a NOOK edition another ISBN, a Kobo edition another, etc. There's no easy way to be on just a generic eBook edition here at goodreads and see the pricing/availability for all eBook editions at once.

So a little bit every retailer wanting/needing their own inventory number and goodreads not having an easy way to aggregate these as, essentially, the same and displaying them for comparison.

Not really a complaint to the original author/OP, more a note that I did have to go an extra step to find it. Authors deserve all the help they can get when marketing. Lord knows it's tough enough.

See, that's the problem. There is no across the board ISBN situation except with Amazon (DTBs, of course). Amazon is consistent with the ASIN. But B&N and Kobo are not. Kobo, especially, goes more with ISBNs. They do have a .kepub format but I have not seen that take on an unique identification number as yet. I don't do a lot of B&N shopping so I can't say how consistent they are...but I can say that the unique IDs for B&N are [relatively] new.

Where this starts to filter down to becoming a problem is the backside coding of sites like this one. The green buttons under the book covers are [for the most part] paid advertisements so GR really wants you to click those green buttons. But they are not really great at quickly adapting the site's coding to deal with the increasing pressure of the ebook environment.
