Haleemah (bookworm_101) | 1325 comments The Host by Stephanie Meyer is going to be a movie and the release date is March 29 2013. Have you read the book? Or are going to read the book now since it's now going to be a movie?

message 2: by Nellie ☾ (new)

Nellie ☾ (derpnerys) | 185 comments I've read the book and then I found out that they're making a movie and then re-read the book when I found out who the actors were xD

message 3: by Haleemah (new)

Haleemah (bookworm_101) | 1325 comments Personally, I haven't read the book. But after watching the trailer yesterday, I'm definitely reading the book. ;)

message 4: by Juhi (last edited Dec 17, 2012 03:22AM) (new)

Juhi (juhi-malani) | 4 comments The book is WAYYYY better than the twilight series. Yeah, its got Stephanie Myers's signature storyline about love triangles but its still amazing.... Do read. But, believe me, i have no hope for the movie. No movie as ever been as good as the book

message 5: by Haleemah (new)

Haleemah (bookworm_101) | 1325 comments I was hesitant to read the book because it was written by Stephanie Meyer. I didn't read the Twilight series because most of the people complained about it--poorly written, weird love triangles, etc. Don't get me wrong, I love love triangles. But once I saw the trailer, I was blown away. Lol I can't wait to get my hands on this book!!! :D

i know!! But seriously though, read the book before the movie comes out otherwise you won't enjoy it as much as you possibly could.

message 7: by Nellie ☾ (new)

Nellie ☾ (derpnerys) | 185 comments Yes I'd agree it was way better than the Twilight series :) Though are are a few things on the book that they have changed for the movie and it was sort of disappointing at first but I fell in love with the book that I can't wait for the movie too :D

message 8: by [deleted user] (new)

So worth reading! I found the first few chapters a bit confusing but I took my friend's advice and reread them after I had finished the book, so they made sense!
Don't worry if you didn't like Twilight, The Host is very different! And the love triangles aren't too bad... :)
Must read! I don't know if I will watch the movie though... If it is anything like the Twilight movies... (which I didn't actually see - going off others advice here) then I really don't want the movie to ruin the book!
Thoughts???

Same here. Favorite book and I always argue with my best friend about whether its amazing or not. I always win, lol :D

message 12: by Megan (new)

Megan Romeo | 2 comments The Host is much better than any of the Twilight books. It is more well written and the characters grow and change throughout the novel. The action and adventure are better and of course the classic love triangle. The beginning is confusing and it took me a while to push through till the end, but it was totally worth it.

message 13: by Mary (new)

Mary Dempsey (BigonBooks) I liked it. It was a little hard to get into, though. It's a different company than who made Twilight, so I have hopes this movie will be good.

message 14: by Kiara (new)

Kiara Love | 2 comments This book is probably my new favorite book. It made me cry and laugh and I loved every bit of it. They better do this book justice in theaters or I'm going to write a very long, detailed letter to Stephenie Meyer

message 15: by Katie (new)

Katie Buchanan | 12 comments I am really excited about this! I am still very un-decided though. Was REALLY NOT a fan of the Twilight books just the writing style I could not stand, but it seems SOOO much different than the Twilight Series, so maybe I will like it a lot. I can not wait to read tne book though and if I do like the book I think I will check out the Movie.

message 16: by Priscila (new)

Priscila | 6 comments I got so excited when I heard about the movie.
I'm not a twilight fan, but I adored the host. It was almost impossible to put the book down.

message 17: by Wei-Wei (new)

Wei-Wei (wwchen) | 38 comments I really liked The Host and though it's a large book, it ended too soon. Does anyone know if she really is writing a sequel?
I love that Saoirse Ronan is Wanda/Melanie, I think she's going to do a great job. I saw the trailer before reading the book and when I watched it I thought it would be mainly Melanie's story and her quest to return to her lover. It seemed a love story set in a science fiction world with aliens but to my delight, I discovered Wanda in the book and I fell in love with the wonderful Jamie. Now, I would describe it as a book about humanity and yes there is romance, but not enough to feel the need to have the trailer revolve around it.
I still want to watch the movie though.

message 18: by April (new)

April | 236 comments I love The Host book! It's an amazing story. Even though it's a big book I read it quickly because the storyline kept me entertained. It was an amazing storyline. The Host is supposed to be the first book in either a trilogy or a series, but I read the Host a few years ago, and I haven't heard any news about the sequels or when they will be released, or even if she's going to write them I'm not sure. But they are supposed to become a series.

message 19: by Nila (new)

Nila | 109 comments The Host was so much more different than the Twilight series. It was amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love IAN! I can't wait for the movvvviiieeee!!!

message 20: by Bethany (new)

Bethany (beth_ess_xx) | 3 comments not read the book yet but the story sounds good. Seen a trailer for the film on Graham Norton on BBC one and the film looks good as well

message 21: by Katie (new)

Katie (katiehayoz) | 12 comments I agree with all of you who said The Host was much better than Twilight. There were little things in the writing that bothered me, but the story was so compelling and exciting it kept me reading. I will for sure see the movie if it wasn't directed by whoever made the last few Twilight films. Those were bad.

message 22: by Nikki (new)

Nikki Sojkowski (nikkisoj) | 868 comments I wasn't going to read this boo after reading and watching twilight, but the movie trailer looks so good! Besides, i've come to the conclusion that the book can't POSSIBLY be worse than twilight so i'll have to be prepared for the movie! it looks super good I can't wait till it comes out :D

I read all of the Twilight series and The Host. The Twilight series is directed more toward the YA set, and The Host is more adult. It is so completely different than the Twilight books. I thought it was far superior. I hope the movie does it justice. I find that the majority of books that are made into movies fall flat. They do not depict the book and sometimes end up entirely different. I do look forward to the movie to see how it is done.

Yes, apparently she confirmed that she is working on the sequel.

I also watched the first trailer before reading the book, and I thought the same thing you did. Thinking it would be more about Melanie trying to get back to Jared, so I was a bit surprised when I read it and we were seeing it all from Wanda's perspective. I mean, you basically get Melanie's perspective too in a way, but I was still pleasantly surprised. It was interesting. And I love Saoirse Ronan, I think she'll be great too. I also liked having the idea of what Mel/Wanda and Jared looked like in my head as I was reading it, for a change, I think that'll make the movie more enjoyable for me when I watch it. Though Ian isn't what I pictured :( I pictured Ian bigger, more buff I guess. I don't know why. But I still think Jake Abel will do a good job.

I loved the concept of the book too, the whole peaceful aliens taking over the humans and trying to make their planet better, even though I was totally rooting for the humans the whole time. I liked the Twilight Saga but I loved The Host, and I can't wait for the movie.

message 25: by Shawna (new)

Shawna | 9 comments I finished the book on Sunday. I decided to read it when I heard that the movie coming out. It was so much better than I thought that it would be. I can't wait to see what the movie is like.

message 26: by Joanna Marie (last edited Mar 19, 2013 09:52PM) (new)

Joanna Marie (joannacapats) I saw the trailer when I watched the latest installment of Die Hard in cinema and I got excited! :) I still haven't read the book so I'm surely getting the book first before watching the film - so it'll be on DVD for sure.

message 27: by Jo (new)

Jo | 2 comments I so totally loved The Host. I actually liked it better than Twilight- which I also loved. The preview to the movie looks kinda cheesy, but I do plan to see it. I was surprised to see all the characters look younger than I remember them being in the book. I hate when they do that.

message 28: by yusuke (new)

yusuke | 0 comments I wanted the casts to be Justin Bieber as Wanda's little brother, Robin William as Jeb, the vampire's diaries' Elena to be Wanda. But oh well.

Olivia (Bookcomet) | 10 comments I saw the movie and it was great! I can't really remember the book, I definitely read it, so I can't really compare them though.

Erika (livingforthebooks) | 3004 comments Mod
I saw the movie and I didn't really care for it (I haven't read the book and don't plan to anytime soon). Wanda was just so annoying. You'd think that a very old alien would understand how to stay alive and wouldn't need a human to tell her exactly what to do.

message 31: by Katelyn (new)

Katelyn (katelynroyer) I don't know about everyone else but i loved the book and the movie! The cast was great and i was surprised that the movie was almost exactly like the book! Im so excited that The Host is going to be a trilogy! (Yes that has been confirmed) i hope all the books make it to the movies! For those who hated twilight, this is much better and you might even find that you like it so give it a chance!!

message 32: by Ayla (new)

Ayla (ex_libris_ad_astra) The movie was amazing, I mean, the book was better, but I still loved the movie.

message 33: by Tirzah (new)

Tirzah Movie was awesome. Book was better but I feel like that goes without saying. I feel like they were spot in with the casting too (love Max Irons!) And it was just a really great adaptation! I would gladly go see it a second time in theatres. Uber excited for The Host #2!

message 34: by yusuke (new)

yusuke | 0 comments I hope there will be an adaptation for The Host #2, but right now ticket sales is looking bleak for the first one.

message 35: by Tirzah (new)

Tirzah S sequal would be awesome! I hope ticket sales pick up soon.

message 36: by Linda (new)

Linda Peng | 11 comments Max Irons and Jake Abel are hot. lol cant't wait for the next book :)

message 37: by yusuke (new)

yusuke | 0 comments I blame the Rotten Tomato critics for their hateful reviews. Why do they have so much hate for Stephenie Meyer and YA romance/fantasy?

message 38: by Katie (new)

Katie Kehoe | 3 comments Wait are you telling me there's a Host 2 or something along the lines of that?

message 39: by yusuke (new)

yusuke | 0 comments Meyer has been writing it.

message 40: by Robyn (new)

Robyn | 7 comments I've read the book and I just saw the film a few days ago. I thought both were really good. I thought that the film was very true to the original story.

message 41: by Jessica (new)

Jessica (jessicalandon22) | 2 comments love the book, and i loved the movie as well, i thought they did good with the casting! can't wait for the sequel!

message 42: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Cushing (melissa_cushing) | 25 comments LOVED the movie! Loved the book even more...... there is so much more detail in the book versus the movie, but I thought that they did a great job with the movie overall. I will definitely be buying the movie to keep for whenever...... and I thought they did a great job casting for the roles in the movie as well!

message 43: by arabella (new)

arabella | 15 comments The movie was great and the book was fantastic.:-)

message 44: by Dekotah (new)

Dekotah Thompson | 17 comments the book is on my to read list, but the movie was amazing!

message 45: by Beloved (new)

Beloved | 19 comments I read The Host when it first came out. What I pictured in my head while reading it was nothing like the movie. I have to say the movie was really really good I liked the way they portrayed some things such as the eyes and field. This movie makes me want to go back and read the book again.

message 46: by Miyah (new)

Miyah I think the book was awesome sauce but then the movie was just like alright though. I was so disappointed after I saw it. It was good but not like OH MY GOSH good.

message 47: by Heather (new)

Heather Kirchhoff | 15 comments I really love this movie. I thought it was perfect.

message 48: by Lynne (new)

Lynne Stringer | 344 comments I thought the movie was terrible. It was so disappointing. Ian and Wanda's relationship took up about five minutes of screen time! Considering how important this was in understanding Wanda's struggles in loving both men I felt this was an unacceptable oversight. Also, the whole tone of the thing just didn't seem to work.
