Hugh! :D Did anyone ever mention that you post like a moderator?
I'll follow you over to a new thread.

Hello, Leslie. Please do get the book, and join us!

I'd be glad to send a group message about starting the group read whenever you guys want. Maybe we could also make sure we message those who expressed interest.
Hmmm.... "Post like a moderator"... I'm not sure that's a good thing. But since I dress like a moderator and parallel park like a moderator, I won't argue.
Dan, if you could start a thread for Big Sleep, I'll open the proceedings and pray we don't end up with a big sleeper of a discussion. wha ha ha! See? I crack jokes like a moderator too. thanks.

hey hugh: there's already a big sleep thread from the previous group read... did you want a new one, or maybe we could just change the title of the thread to indicate it's all encompassing?

also, i am still very keen on reading the long goodbye as a group read so if you guys get done with the big sleep and feel like doing some comparative chandler, let me know, okay?

Well, hell... Moderated by Chris, with color commentary from you and Patty? That's gold, baby! What would folks like to do -- add to it? Start a new one? Move on to something else like The Long Goodbye (talk about a different kind of link to the "movie version"!)

May I suggest that in order to avoid spoilers and whatnot that we start a new thread and link to the old thread in the very first post?
I think that could help get things going. Whadda ya say Hugh, et al.?

I'm fine with that... but want to be sure we've got a quorom here. At the risk of making this even MORE complicated though... I just finished the biography of David Foster Wallace and would be open to moderating a read of Infinite Jest, if there are enough folks to tackle that monster. Decisions, decisions
Well there was a number of interested readers for Chandler a few weeks ago. Dunno what happened to them.
I wouldn't be ready to reread Infinite Jest in full since I just finished it a month ago. I would however reread sections and contribute to the conversation. I would also start reading Elegant Complexity and reread Burns' book on IJ during the group read. You would also be an excellent leader for IJ, Hugh.

i worry about how sporadic notifications in goodreads can be -- if you haven't set it to give you email notifications it's even more spotty. i'd recommend that hugh or dan send a message via goodreads to the people who said they wanted to read big sleep to firm things up (or not)...
just my 4 cents. :)

Would it help to remind people about the group reads if we added all these to the group bookshelf, in the currently reading and to-read sections? When the group is currently reading, the book shows up at the top of the group page, and alerts everyone that the discussion is going on. Just a thought!

I'm wondering what's happening with our non-IJ group reads? Are they on hold? I hope people haven't given up because there was a non-starter?
Also, what do you guys think about my suggestion of adding these books to the group bookshelf to-read section?
