message 122: by Nairabell (new)

Nairabell | 433 comments Hi Amy J! It's been great looking through your shelves. I hope you can find something here that you want to read, but if not give me a shout and I'll come up with something else.

Book I loved most in 2012
White Cat by Holly Black was one of my favourite reads this year. It's a young adult urban fantasy about a family of curse workers in a world where magic is banned. The world building was brilliant and I really enjoyed the book :)

An Author I'm looking forward to in 2013
The Golden Lily by Richelle Mead. I've been hearing awesome things about this lately so I'm hoping to read the rest of the V.A. books in January (I've only read the first). You liked Bloodlines so hopefully you'll enjoy this.

Light, happy book to start the year
What's a Ghoul to Do? by Victoria Laurie is a really light fun paranormal cozy mystery. You don't seem to have read many cozies, but you read a lot of paranormals so maybe you'll enjoy this.

New to you series
The Demon's Lexicon by Sarah Rees Brennan is the first in a complete trilogy that I read and loved this year. Her writing style is similar to Holly Black and these are also young adult urban fantasy.

Most-hyped TBR book
Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins has got to be the book I've seen the most hype for this year. Everyone seems to know about it and it's on your TBR so I'm guessing you've heard of it too lol :)

New Year's Eve fireworks
Magic to the Bone by Devon Monk looks like it has a massive fireball on the front cover so I thought that would work well for this category.

The Randoms!
From your shelf: #4 Dracula by Bram Stoker
From my shelf: #47 Tall, Dark & Fangsome by Michelle Rowen

White Cat (Curse Workers, #1) by Holly Black The Golden Lily (Bloodlines, #2) by Richelle Mead What's a Ghoul to Do? (Ghost Hunter Mystery, #1) by Victoria Laurie The Demon's Lexicon (The Demon's Lexicon, #1) by Sarah Rees Brennan Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins Magic to the Bone (Allie Beckstrom, #1) by Devon Monk Dracula by Bram Stoker Tall, Dark & Fangsome (Immortality Bites, #5) by Michelle Rowen

message 127: by Ty (new)

Ty | 1943 comments Nancy ~ I totally agree with you - a day without reading is a day without air. I hope you like your picks! You have a lot of regular fiction and mystery on your TBR, a pleasant change walking in the real world XD. Please let me know if you need anything added or changed. I can get to it after the new year. Enjoy!

1. Most favorite
My most favorite book I've read in 2012 has got to be Wallbanger. It's funny, it's well-written, and it's modern. LOVED it.
On the flip side, a book that moved me beyond tears, beyond... functioning at a human capacity is Daughter of the Forest. I should've bought stock in some tissue company before I started...

2. Looking forward to more Kristen Ashley in 2013!
Mystery Man is the book that started me on the KA train.
Rock Chick is a great start to a fun series.

3. Light, happy book to start off their New Year
Nice Girls Don't Date Dead Men is also a nice fun twist on the vampire lore.
Oh, I loved He Loves Lucy. A sweet, sweet read.

4. New to you series
It Had to Be You starts an awesome sports series that is less about football and more about the shenanigans of certain members of the team :)
The Mane Event is on your TBR and is greatly enjoyed by many.

5. Most-hyped book
Seduction and Snacks is surely one of the most hyped reads amongst my GR buddies. It's pure sarcasm and cotton candy. Great read!

6. New Year's Eve Fireworks
Slow Heat in Heaven by Sandra Brown <-- this is almost like fire, right? Still a classic gem from Mrs. Brown.

It's a BRAND New Year! Random.org

Hi Juliet! I am so impressed with how quickly you picked for me, not to mention there are some GREAT choices!

I love Cecilia Ahern, so I'll read [bookcover:Thanks For The Memories|2410506] if I can get a copy. I already have The Casual Vacancy by J.K. Rowling and have been itching to read it. I'm a sucker for historical romance and have never read anything by Julia Quinn. The Duke And I (Bridgertons, #1) by Julia Quinn looks really good.

So many good books and so little time! Thanks again!

message 132: by Larissa (new)

Larissa | 138 comments Carla,

1. Recommend a book that you loved most reading in 2012. It should be one of your favorites of the year.

Definitely, the book I loved the most this year was The Fault in Our Stars. It's just so refreshing, witty and heartbreaking. There's something pure and raw and true in it that just makes it a must-read-now.
2. Recommend a book by an author you are looking forward to read in 2013.
I'm looking forward to read more of Nalini Singh's books, mostly her Psy-changeling series. Now, this is also one you must start. I love this world that she created, something I've never seen before and the first book, Slave to Sensation is one of my faves in it (and it actually gets better after you re-read it!)
3. Recommend a light, happy book to start off their New Year.
I just realised I'm not good at the light and happy stuff. Sigh. I've always wanted to read Can You Keep a Secret? and you have some Sophie Kinsella on your tbr shelf, so why not give it a little nudge?
4. Recommend a new-to-them series that you have read and enjoyed.
Dark Lover. You have to start it. This series is freaking insane, trust me.
5. Recommend a book off their TBR that they should have read but haven't (ex: Most-hyped book)
What about continuing the Outlander series with Dragonfly in Amber? (this was actually off your tbr shelf, haha) Or perhaps The Peach Keeper? (ok, this was not, but shhh)
6. New Year's Eve Fireworks - Recommend a book with fire or fireworks on the cover or a HOT new release that they are looking forward to.
The Casual Vacancy. This was a HOT new release this year and you've read all HP's books, so...
Random books (I just loved this idea, btw)
My bookshelf: #192 - The Prize
Yours: #764 - Follow My Leader

Hope you enjoy your picks, and if not, just let me know I'll re-pick for you! (:

The Fault in Our Stars by John Green Slave to Sensation (Psy-Changeling #1) by Nalini Singh Can You Keep a Secret? by Sophie Kinsella Dark Lover (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #1) by J.R. Ward Dragonfly in Amber (Outlander, #2) by Diana Gabaldon The Peach Keeper by Sarah Addison Allen The Casual Vacancy by J.K. Rowling The Prize by Julie Garwood Follow My Leader by James B. Garfield

message 134: by Desperado (new)

Desperado (lethallovely) | 822 comments Dawn (Kat n Hat), here are my recommendations for you! If you don't see anything you're interested in, I'm more than happy to pick more.

1. Recommend a book that you loved most reading in 2012.
Naked in Death~ I was apprehensive about starting such an INCREDIBLY FREAKING LONG series but I really enjoyed NiD & other books I've read in this series since then (I've read 6 of 1 bazillion :p ).

2. Recommend a book by an author you are looking forward to read in 2013.
A Million Suns~I'm really looked forward to Shades of Earth, the final book in this trilogy, in 2013 & I noticed you enjoyed book #1, so why not go for #2?

3. Recommend a light, happy book to start off their New Year.
Wallbanger~I usually try to stay far far away from Indie books but I found myself reading quite a few this month. Wallbanger was one of the best. A very funny tale about a woman who's lost her "O."

4. Recommend a new-to-them series that you have read and enjoyed.
The Secret~I just can't get enough of Garwood and have reread many of her exceptional historical romances multiple times. The Secret is definitely one of my favorites.

5. Recommend a book off their TBR that they should have read but haven't.
Magic Bites~Am I obsessed with any and everything Ilona Andrews? HELL YEAH! This incredible duo could write a book about trigonometry & I'd swoon in ecstasy.

6. 6. New Year's Eve Fireworks - Recommend a book with fire or fireworks on the cover or a HOT new release that they are looking forward to.
Firelight~I'm not one for paranormal historicals. They are on my top 5 list of most hated subgenres. But I've heard really good things about Firelight so I'm definitely gonna knock it off my TBR in 2013.

7. Random Me (43 on my "Own But Haven't Read" Shelf)
The Vampire Voss

8. Random You (627 on your TBR shelf)
Because You Tempt Me

Naked in Death (In Death, #1) by J.D. Robb A Million Suns (Across the Universe, #2) by Beth Revis Wallbanger by Alice Clayton The Secret (Highlands' Lairds #1) by Julie Garwood Magic Bites (Kate Daniels, #1) by Ilona Andrews Firelight (Darkest London, #1) by Kristen Callihan The Vampire Voss (Regency Draculia #1) by Colleen Gleason Because You Tempt Me (Because You Are Mine, #1) by Beth Kery

Brandilyn (brandilynrc) | 869 comments Debra - here you go. We don't read a lot of the same things (I read pretty much exclusively MM these days). So I hope you can find something in these picks.

1. Recommend a book that you loved most reading in 2012. It should be one of your favorites of the year.
Bared to You (I don't read a ton of M/F anymore, but I really enjoyed this one when I did read it).

2. Recommend a book by an author you are looking forward to read in 2013.
Fatal Shadows by Josh Lanyon. He is great at the Cozy Mystery.

3. Recommend a light, happy book to start off their New Year.
Seduction and Snacks

4. Recommend a new-to-them series that you have read and enjoyed.
Cut & Run My first M/M. Love this series.

5. Recommend a book off their TBR that they should have read but haven't (ex: Most-hyped book)
The Hunger Games

6. New Year's Eve Fireworks - Recommend a book with fire or fireworks on the cover or a HOT new release that they are looking forward to.
The Casual Vacancy Never read it, but it is pretty popular.

It's a BRAND New Year!

And you don't know what's ahead of you. Pick two random books - one from your AND one from your pickee's TBR using random.org to generate the book number. (In the website, the maximum number would be the number of books in the shelf)

Carla (carlacollette) | 347 comments Joyce, here are your picks. Let me know if nothing looks good and/or if you’d like re-picks. Happy New Year!

1. One of my favorite books from last year was http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/10.... It’s a wonderful coming-of-age story (with some romantic elements). Note that it has alot of drama.

2. You might like this light Nora Roberts romance, with supernatural elements and a lovely inn being refurbished http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/10...

3. It looks like you like your books a bit dark and paranormal, but this one from your “want to start soon” list looks pretty light http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/50...

4. I’ve been reading the Lisa Kleypas Friday Harbor series, which are romances with some paranormal elements; I’d recommend the second in the series (the first is a sweet holiday story) http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/85...

5. From your TBR list, I’d think that you’d like Jayne Ann Krentz’s Arcane series. This is the first modern-day book in the series http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/29...

6. Here’s a fiery cover from your “want to start soon”: list http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/27...

7. From your TBR, #1036 (I thought my TBR was long!), http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/77.... Luckily, it’s the first of a series.

8. From my TBR, #545, http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/60.... It appears to be a dramatic historical fiction story from the Rennaissance period.

Yes, I think it's safe to say I have an unhealthy fascination with gay men ;) Cut & Run will be a good place for you to start with M/M romance. Not too erotic, same with Bear, Otter and the Kid. Now Hot Head? It definitely lives up to its title.

1. I couldn't pick just one for this one. I had a lot of favorites this past year, but I choose Virgin River by Robyn Carr and Treading Water by Marie Force. Both are really good books, and the Virgin River books have turned into a guilty pleasure for me.

2.I can't wait to read Lisa Kleypas new Friday Harbor book coming out later in 2013 so I picked Rainshadow Road by Lisa Kleypas.

3.Simply Irresistible by Jill Shalvis, looks pretty happy and light for the new year.

4. Good Girls Don't by Victoria Dahl or Naked in Death by JD Robb or One Reckless Summer by Toni Blake.
Again, I couldn't pick just one. All three of these are good. The In Death books is a huge series, and I'm not even close to finishing all of them, but so far so good. The Victoria Dahl series is only three books, and I liked it more than I thought I would. Same with the Toni Blake series.

5.A Cowboy's Touch by Denise Hunter. This one looks like it's been on your TBR shelf for a while and the reviews seem good.

6.Backfire Fire in the title and on the cover :)

Brand New Year
11.From your TBR: Just Between You and Me: A Novel of Losing Fear and Finding God by Jenny B. Jones
409. From my TBR: Zack by Cheyenne McCray

Enjoy!

Joyce (eternity21) | 739 comments Hi Carla,
I think I'm going to go with
You Slay Me and Working for the Devil and if I have time to add a third it will be Paranormalcy. It is so hard to choose which one to do first.

SandyC (sandyc88) | 1287 comments Rena, I loved browsing your shelves. I hope you find something you like on this list. Happy New Year!

1. 2012 Favorite: I re-read both of these in 2012: The Mists of Avalon and The Great Gatsby

2.2013 Author: So many books to look forward to in 2013! I am waiting for new books from Diana Gabaldon, J.R. Ward, and Richelle Mead. Looks like you have read Outlander, so why not continue Jamie and Claire's adventures inDragonfly in Amber? You gave Vampire Academy 5 stars, so you would likely enjoyFrostbite. It doesn't look like you have visited the world of the Black Dagger Brotherhood. This is one of my favorite paranormal series, which begins with Dark Lover.

3. Light and Happy: Stephanie Plum never fails to make me laugh. Try One For The Money.
Bossypants also is a funny read.

4.New-to-You Series: I started both of these series this year and really enjoyed them: Nine Rules to Break When Romancing a Rake and The Madness of Lord Ian Mackenzie.

5. Hyped:Garden Spells, The Book Thief, or A Discovery of Witches

Kristina Simon (kristinasimon) Hi Rebecca ! Here are my picks for you. Hopefully you can find something you're interested in reading. If not, let me know. I'll be happy to re-pick if necessary. Happy New Year and Happy Reading!!

1. Recommend a book that you loved most reading in 2012. It should be one of your favorites of the year. I really enjoyed:
Emily and Einstein by Linda Francis Lee, a sweet love story, and The Host by Stephenie Meyer which is more a mind-bending sic-fi. Both very, very good, just in different ways.

2. Recommend a book by an author you are looking forward to read in 2013.
I'm looking forward to finishing Julie Leto's Phantom series by reading Kiss of the Phantom. I really enjoyed her Marisela Morales stories, too, so, for you, I'd recommend Dirty Little Christmas, which is on your TBR shelf.

3. Recommend a light, happy book to start off their New Year.
Chelsea Chelsea Bang Bang by Chelsea Handler - I'm not sure how light and happy this is, but it looks funny at least. ;-) Or, if you're into sweet, light contemporary romances, Simply Irresistible by Jill Shalvis was very cute.

4. Recommend a new-to-them series that you have read and enjoyed.
I really enjoyed Nora Roberts's Bride Quartet. I see you have the first book in the series, Vision in White, on your TBR shelf. It's a good one!

5. Recommend a book off their TBR that they should have read but haven't (ex: Most-hyped book)
Darkfever by Karen Marie Moning - this is an awesome series!

6. New Year's Eve Fireworks - Recommend a book with fire or fireworks on the cover or a HOT new release that they are looking forward to.

MountainKat | 31602 comments Gigi, here are your picks. I tried not to duplicate my picks, but I just couldn't help myself once or twice... Most of these were on your to-read shelf, but I threw in a few new ones too.

1. Recommend a book that you loved most reading in 2012. So many to choose from, I really tried to limit myself, I didn't do very well. First, I know I suggested this before but I've read it now and just loved it - A Kiss at Midnight by Eloisa James. You seemed to enjoy Jennifer Ashley's Highland Pleasure series and up next for you is The Many Sins of Lord Cameron, it is another one of my favorites this year. I might be pushing your boundaries here with a couple of M/M picks, but I loved these two books - Out in the Field by Kate McMurray and The Locker Room by Amy Lane.

2. Recommend a book by an author you are looking forward to read in 2013. Again so many to pick from! I am really looking forward listening to the next IAD book by Kresley Cole for the FAC this month and you have A Hunger Like No Other on your to-read shelf so that one was easy! I listened to that recently - amazing in audio! I am also looking forward to rereading Pamela Clare's I-Team series since they came out in audio - I've heard such good things! I hope to be listening to Extreme Exposure this month and would be happy to a buddy read of it with you! One of the books I am most looking forward to is Maya Banks's new KGI book. I loved the first of this series, The Darkest Hour and would highly recommend it. I also loved her highlander books and am looking forward to more of them as well. A good one to start with is In Bed with a Highlander. Then again, I am also wanting to get back to her Sweet series and you have the first one on your to-read shelf, Sweet Surrender. Even though it says "sweet" in the title, I wasn't expecting such a sweet story!

I promise I will restrain myself better on some of the other rules!

3. Recommend a light, happy book to start off their New Year. You like Linda Howard, how about To Die For? It is laugh out loud funny! Or maybe The Sweetest Thing by Jill Shalvis, I love this series and it looks like you enjoyed the first one. I thought it just got better with each following book.

4. Recommend a new-to-them series that you have read and enjoyed. I just adore the Kowalski family! You have Exclusively Yours by Shannon Stacey on your to-read shelf, you ought to give it a try!

5. Recommend a book off their TBR that they should have read but haven't. I thought this would be easy, you read the first two Fifty Shades books and enjoyed them but I couldn't find Fifty Shades Freed on your to-read shelf. So maybe Seduction and Snacks by Tara Sivec or Bared to You by Sylvia Day. I saw both of those books all over goodreads, read them this month and really enjoyed them. Or even The Marriage Bargain by Jennifer Probst, haven't read this one, but have been seeing it all over (maybe a buddy read?). Not on your to-read, but another that is getting a lot of buzz and a possible buddy read is On Dublin Street by Samantha Young.

6. New Year's Eve Fireworks. Maybe not fire, but firemen - that should qualify right? You have The Fireman Who Loved Me by Jennifer Bernard on your TBR, but here are a couple of other ideas too - Wild Heat by Bella Andre and Hot Head by Damon Suede.

It's a BRAND New Year!

From your to-read: #783 - Legally Hot by Lora Leigh. Looks to be the second in a series and if you are anything like me that just doesn't work. The first is Cooper's Fall that is also found in Real Men Last All Night (Lexi Steele, #1.5).

From my to-read: I have two to-read shelves so I randomly picked one from each. From my to-read-asap, #39, The Italian by Lisa Marie Rice. And from my to-read, #518, Suddenly You by Lisa Kleypas.

I hope you can find something you like!
