I've noticed that a number of people have posted recommendation requests. At http://www.allscifi.com/ you can get recommendations of 5 novels "similar" to a novel of your selection. For instance, The Alphabet of Thorn generates this result:
Most similar books by Gordonator ranking The Eyes of the Dragon by Stephen King The Stone Prince - Branion 1 by Fiona Patton The Sword of the Land by Noel-Anne Brennan The King by David Feintuch The Black Beast by Nancy Springer
I checked out a few other books and the result was almost invariably 5 books I hadn't read. So, I am asking for your assistance in evaluating this service. It seems to be based on a fairly simple set of attribute matches, not subgenre matching, author matching, or an Amazonian neural network. I don't expect or want it to replace personal recommendations like those possible at this club, but it might be a useful tool. So take a look, and let me know what you think.
