D.G. | 1370 comments Yes, that's what we were talking about. :)

I just don't read fast enough to complete it and I like participate in challenges where at least I have a shot. :)

Wow...that is some challenge! It's like zombies on steroids. I can see why some find it overwhelming.

ha ha ha! I have to admit that I gave the rules only cursory looks. The main thing was to make sure books have enough number of pages and my books usually do. When I'm contemplating something short then I'd recheck the rules. Stuff like that... I have to admit though that I've been participating on and off since nearly the beginning of it all. To begin with, it really wasn't that complex! But, as the number of people participating increased, they needed to adjust so it's fair to all & can be checked easily.

You're starting later than most of us although most of us have a list but haven't even started reading yet, lol. Good luck! I see a number of NF on your list. Let me know how you find My Korean Deli - I've got that on TBR :)

Adrienne, I loved The Paris Wife!

Adrienne Teague (ateague) | 339 comments Woo Hoo! One down.

I read Fire Season Field Notes from a Wilderness Lookout by Philip Connors by Philip Connors. I really enjoyed this one. A lot of that might be because I've been to some of the areas he talks about. Connors is a Forest Service lookout in Southern New Mexico four months a year. His descriptions of the landscape are beautiful, and he manages to make Forest Service history not mind-numbingly boring.

Good work, Adrienne. I'm trying to push myself to pick up my 6th book. Hopefully, sometime this week :)

Welcome, Julia! Dust off those books and get the read ;)

oh no, is that the book's fault or technical problem or you just don't have the time to listen atm?

message 114: by D.G. (new)

D.G. | 1370 comments I just lost interest after a while. But I'll force myself to finish it this week.

I finished Rainbows End, and gave it 4 stars. My review here . That's 6 down out of my first 10, 8 of the 30 I'd set as a goal for the year. I really should have finished 15 by the end of June, but at this rate, I don't think that's going to happen.

message 116: by Julia (new)

Julia (juliace) I started reading Sacred Sins by Nora Roberts for my L.O.S.T. challenge and I have to say I'm a little disappointed in this book. I think this may be the 1st NR book that IMO is just ok. There doesn't seem to be any meat on the bones compared her other writings. I'll finish it out, hopefully it gets better (I'm on page 117).

message 117: by D.G. (new)

hang in there, Julia, though if it's really not worth it - don't waste too much time on it...

Go, DG!

Finished my 6th, got 7 & 8 out of the library and hopefully starting 7 tonight or tomorrow :)

message 119: by Julia (new)

Julia (juliace) Thanks Tien, it's not too bad so I'll finish it out. Sounds like you're on quite the roll.

DG - I'm right behind you, hope to finish my first book today and start on my second.

message 120: by D.G. (new)

D.G. | 1370 comments Thanks Tien & Julia. Both books are over 500+ pgs and I always have problems reading those. The rest are shorter so I hope I won't have the same problem!

Once I'm done with book #2, I hope to start with #3, which also happens to fit the Mt. TBR AND Book-A-Fort. I love killing 3 birds with one stone!

message 121: by Julia (new)

Julia (juliace) Finished reading Sacred Sins for the LOST challenge, now back to the "death" shelf - back to Catching Fire (The Hunger Games, #2) by Suzanne Collins , book 2 of the hunger games.

yay, 7th book down, halfway through 8th (on audio), and have 9th out from library! Happy I'm on a really good roll

though had to wonder which other challenges are suffering from this! ha ha ha... oh wells...

message 123: by Julia (new)

Julia (juliace) Currently reading The Search for Joyful A Mrs. Mike Novel by Benedict Freedman by Benedict Freedman. I read Mrs. Mike by the same authors and I loved it! It's one of my favorite books EVER! I hope to enjoy "The Search For Joyful" just as much.

message 124: by Julia (new)

Julia (juliace) I'm reading (trying to read) The Search for Joyful A Mrs. Mike Novel by Benedict Freedman , but so far I'm really not enjoying it. The writing is so different from the previous book, Mrs. Mike by Benedict Freedman , that it's hard to believe that the same authors wrote it. I'm trying, but I don't know if I'll be able to finish.

Julia (juliace) I was not able to finish my 2nd book "The Search For Joyful", so I added an 11th book to my list. I'm going to start my 3rd book from my list, Life Support by Tess Gerritsen. I've read several books by her, so I shouldn't have any problems with this one.

Julia (juliace) Waiting for my L.O.S.T. books to be delivered from the library. While I'm waiting, I'm reading Until Tuesday A Wounded Warrior and the Golden Retriever Who Saved Him by Luis Carlos Montalván , which has also been on my TR shelf for about 2 years. So far I'm enjoying this book, but I'm getting a little disillusioned with our govt.

message 132: by Julia (new)

Julia (juliace) Finished reading "Until Tuesday", which I thoroughly enjoyed. Still waiting for my other L.O.S.T. books to come from the library.

message 133: by Adrienne (new)

Adrienne Teague (ateague) | 339 comments I got totally bogged down in new books from the library that had to be read and returned, so I STILL haven't got to book number 3. It's up soon, though.

message 134: by Julia (new)

Julia (juliace) Started reading Life Support by Tess Gerritsen by Tess Gerritsen for my L.O.S.T challenge, but got sidetracked by The Clan of the Cave Bear (Earth's Children, #1) by Jean M. Auel , which I started reading for the July Adventure challenge. I think I'm going to have to put "LIFE SUPPORT" on the back burner until I'm finshed w/ "CLAN OF THE CAVE BEAR".

I've just made a decision on give up on my 9th book :(
I just couldn't read it anymore. I think it's actually a good book but it's the wrong timing for me (I don't like knowing right from the beginning that characters will have to go through a lot of suffering etc etc etc and the end is still not certain etc etc etc - too much anxiety in reading :p)

A shame really as I loved this author's YA fantasy works and I've loved one of her adult fantasy but I just couldn't get into this one.

I've added an extra book to my LOST list to replace the above - Oscar and Lucinda

Julia (juliace) Could not finish my 3rd & 4th books, so I'm adding a 12th and 13th to the list.....

12) The God of Animals by Aryn Kyle
13) Why My Third Husband Will Be a Dog: The Amazing Adventures of an Ordinary Woman by Lisa Scottoline

message 140: by Adrienne (new)

Adrienne Teague (ateague) | 339 comments Oh my goodness! I've been reading, but I forgot to update.

I read Please Look After Mom which I really enjoyed. That poor unappreciated woman.

And I read Finding Chandra: A True Washington Murder Mystery which was meh. It's easy to spot the mistakes others made after the fact.

Now, I'm reading Zoo City which is fabulous!

When they've been around a loooonnnnng time, I feel great success just in getting any of them read. So in my mind, any you knock off that list is a success in itself!

message 147: by Tien (new)

Tien (tiensblurb) | 9032 comments Mod
Welcome to the challenge, Gemma! You've plenty of time to smash 10 books really though I see you have some tough chunky one (ie. Atlas Shrugged).

Loved A Tale of 2 Cities and quite enjoyed The Grapes of Wrath & Frankenstein.

I think though, any books you'd managed to take off this list will be awesome especially since they've been there for years! I know that's how I feel!

ps: understand completely what you mean about the 2nd home shop that sells them for a dollar or two! I have to continually tell myself, "No" each time I drive past! I'm really hopeless. And btw, I've just packed all my books for a move and I believe I now have more TBR books than read ones :p But! But! a Lot of the times, I'd hand my books around after I read them and not keeping track of them if I don't particularly care about having them back so many of 'my' books out there, hopefully, being loved :D

Welcome to the challenge, Gemma. Glad to see you here. Like everyone above has said, whatever books you read and clear off the list is a good thing. I have done this challenge every year and have yet to finish my list, lol. I think I have only read one book each year, but then everyone knows that any books I own become "orphans" as I am always thinking I can get to them later.

You have some great books on your list. My favorites there are Grapes of Wrath, Fahrenheit 451, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, and The Alchemist.

Finished Good Omens. Three more to go on my first list. But I'd hoped to finish 3 lists of 10 this year. Not sure that's going to happen.

My list at http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/1....

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) | 2895 comments Mod
Wow, three lists of 10, Susan. That is really quite a goal. I would be happy if I just got ONE list of 10 done in a year.
