There will be some very slight spoilers within this discussion, so if you have not read the book yet, you may wish to do so before reading any further.
I found the novel to be well written and the movies to be enjoyable but I would recommend a bit of a format change to make the experience more believable.
Now I can believe that a fifteen year old boy would have a great deal of practice writing, however, I found it very hard to suspend disbelief when he was apparently, hopping around on crutches, under the influence of pain medicine and scared to death when rummaging around in his fathers things that his handwriting remained so perfect. I recommend perhaps altering the style of the writing font within certain sections of the notebook to bring a more realistic air to it.
My other suggestion has to do with the movie format. They were slightly cheesy but then, most teens would act that way so I found that spot on. However, the interference with the movie clips was extremely disconcerting. Scrolling screens simply do not happen with digital clips. I would suggest looking into more believable forms of making the clips seem more amateurishly done. Simply browse Youtube a little and I am certain you will come up with some amusing ways.
The website is a bit unbelievable for a teen. I like the background, but it doesn't seem to fit in the mindset of the story. Why would she take the time, to animate lights going on and off in the windows, and add a creepy sound effect in the background?
Other then that, I loved the book. A short read, but it was filled with drama, rather clean teenage angst, and a clear moral behind the story.
Can anyone else come up with some "constructive" suggestions for the future additions?
dude this book ruled! are there any other books like this? that are part movie? great ideas presented here- i don't think there should be any changes. I like the way it is. If the hand writing changed, it would be difficult and non enjoyable, but yes. more realistic. I loved the vids and how clean they were. no language or anything like that. nice review
