Eden Sharp | 2 comments Hi everyone, I'm Eden, I'm an author and I also teach fiction writing and publishing at SSU.

I write hardboiled techno thrillers and my favourite authors are Andrew Vachss, Michael Connolly, Lee Child and Barry Eisler. (Although I'm fond of Hammett, Chandler and many others).

I look forward to chewing the fat, thriller-wise.

I really like Michael Connelly, too, Eden. Have you tried J.A. Jance's J.P. Beaumont series?

message 2805: by Lee (new)

Lee Atterbury | 17 comments Eden, Have you read any Ian Rankin? John Sanford? I have published two crime novels with horses. The writing is fun, marketing not so much.

message 2806: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kmcripn) | 31 comments I like Ian Rankin!

message 2807: by Lee (new)

Lee Atterbury | 17 comments Aren't Rebus and Clarke great?

message 2808: by Eden (new)

Eden Sharp | 2 comments Hi Lee and Kirsten,

I like Rankin, although I favour American crime mainly and have not come across John Sanford or JA Jance.

message 2809: by Michael (new)

Michael Prelee (michaelprelee) | 3 comments Hi, I'm an author who enjoys crime novels and science fiction. Some of my favorite crime writers are Elmore Leonard, Craig Johnson and Raymond Chandler. I've been working my way through Elmore Leonard's body of work for a long time and I'm always happy to see one I missed at library sales and second hand stores. He was such an inspiration that when I wrote my novel, Milky Way Repo, I tried to use what I'd learned reading titles like Get Shorty, Maximum Bob, Rum Punch and Riding the Rap.

message 2810: by Reynold (new)

Reynold | 5 comments Hey, Rey's here. Being thriller/adventure (mostly in exotic locations) fan in general, I'm currently interested in fictional biographies/sagas about fictional mobsters, crooks, criminal masterminds and the likes. A classic example would be "The Godfather", of course. More contemporary one - "Rise of an Oligarch" - a terrific book that I've read recently and which scenes still haunt my mind. Two anonymous authors composed such an impressive, captivating and mature work. Surely, there should be much more of the similar stuff. Any advice, guys?

message 2811: by Lee (new)

Lee Atterbury | 17 comments Michael, if you like Craig Johnson try my books--crime novels with horses. www.leeatterbury

message 2812: by Lee (new)

Lee Atterbury | 17 comments Rey, there's a new Dennis Lehane called, if memory serves, Time Gone By. It's a gangster story set in the forties.

message 2818: by TyCobbsTeeth (new)

TyCobbsTeeth TyCobbsTeeth | 1 comments Hi all,
My name is Rob, I write as TyCobbsTeeth and I am passionate Thriller reader. Anything with Thriller/Suspense/Action-Adventure/Mystery/Crime gets my blood pumping.
I started writing as a release--an escape and it quickly turned into a passion as well. I found it was a phenomenal way to enjoy a story (from my twisted mind) as it would unfold, but in a way which I could actually affect its direction.
I'm anxious to read through more of this form, but have to get to work. I'll be back later.
Cheers all!
-Rob

message 2819: by Kevin (new)

Kevin Hill (kevinrhill) | 3 comments Hello to the group. My name is Kevin. I love a good suspense/action/thriller, and ask only that it seem real. When Dan Brown had his protagonist leap from a helicopter with a table cloth as a parachute he lost me.

I look forward to sharing with the group, and hopefully will be able to add to discussions. K

message 2820: by John (new)

John (crimewriterjm) | 2 comments Hi. I'm a huge fan of crime fiction and love reading thrillers, mysteries, police procedurals and dark suspense. I usually prefer hard-boiled over cosy, though I will read a cosy if it has plenty of humour and an interesting setting.

My author blog is www.mybookspage.wordpress.com

message 2821: by Reynold (new)

Reynold | 5 comments Hey John, welcome! Speaking about crime fiction & interesting setting you can try Rise of an Oligarch. Some great stuff in my opinion

Marian Exall | 3 comments Hi, I'm Marian, avid reader of mysteries, especially British ones, as I was born there, although I moved to the US in 1977 and now live in the Pacific Northwest. My favorite recent discoveries are the Fiona Griffiths series by Harry Bingham, and John Harvey's Charlie Reznick series. I have published two mysteries myself: A Slippery Slope and A Dangerous Descent. My heroine, Sarah McKinney, is a lawyer and international mediator with a troubled past.

I'm a big reader of mysteries and thrillers, mostly vintage ones, but I am trying to branch out into other genres. I also love the old mystery and thriller movies - "This Gun for Hire," "The Lady from Shanghai," "Laura," "Deception," and "The Spiral Staircase." My mother has the complete Charlie Chan collection and I've seen them all.

Nora (phigirl) Hi All, I'm Nora, I love to read all sorts of books but in recent years have been heavily into mysteries (and am finally working on my own detective/murder mystery!). I love the hard-boiled classics like Raymond Chandler and Dashiell Hammett, but also more contemporary stuff like Patricia Highsmith, Richard Price, and too many more to include. Hoping to get some great recommendations/discover new - or new to me - books here.

H.L. Walton | 0 comments Hi everyone. I am relatively new to Goodreads and have just started joining up with some great groups. I am a mother of three, aspiring author, studying to receive my Diploma in Early Childhood Education and always an avid reader. I'm really stoked to have found somewhere where I can find heaps of great books to read and connect with other like-minded readers to discuss books that I like or maybe didn't like so much. Thanks for letting me introduce myself and I look forward to interacting with the group :-)

message 2845: by John (new)

John Lefevere (johnlefevere) | 1 comments Hi Everyone - My name is John Lefevere and I'm relatively new to Goodreads and this group. After a little more than 40 years in practice (sometimes I think that was 39 years too many) I retired from law practice in 2014 and started my second career as an author. I've published one book, a suspense novel about a Baby Boomer (link attached) and currently working on second one: an action/adventure novel set in the Thousand Islands, New York. I think it's fantastic that Goodreads provides such a broad and diverse platform for readers and authors alike to interact

message 2846: by Suzan (new)

Suzan Lloyd (SueLloyd) | 2 comments Hello everyone - My name is Susan from Norfolk, UK. My passion is getting lost for a few hours a day in fiction, mainly crime, mystery and police procedurals. I tend to read UK authors so that I can visit the settings. I love finding new authors as well as waiting for the next book to come out from the established ones on my list. This week I have been sent Shatter Point and this has made me realise I am missing out and need to broaden my reading further. I have been on Goodreads for a few months now but I'm still finding my way around. I am so looking forward to connecting and benefiting from other readers.

message 2847: by Jack (new)

Jack | 16 comments Welcome Susan! I like your idea about reading mysteries that take place in areas which one can actually visit. I hope that you read some American and Canadian mysteries. If you do, you'll have an excuse to visit us on the other side of the Pond.
