Welcome, Rachel! You're in the right place.

Thanks, Gary! Glad to be here!

Ben here. I'm new to the group, and to this whole business (being a member of any group), but I love mystery/crime/spy novels. My tendency is to find an author I like and read everything they've written - this can sometimes lead to disappointment, and is not a hard and fast method, but I like who I like.
Some of my faves are John Le Carre, Daniel Silva, Fredrick Forsythe, Michael Connelly, Len Deighton, Denise Mina, and even John Grisham () among too many others to mention.
Suggestions are welcome. Thanks, and nice to meet y'all!

Welcome! I'm just getting into this group, too!

Welcome!! I feel very similar to you on the Gillian Flynn thing...her books are good but not what everyone makes them out to be.

Would love to connect with you all! ;-)

Welcome, Constanze! That's a good reading list.

Welcome!

Hi Gary! And Thank you! :-)

Hi Nadine!

You're absolutely right, James Lee Burke and Ian Rankin are also excellent! I really love Rebus, like Sean Duffy, he's such a special character. Which one is your favourite by JLB?
Actually there are several good Austrian Mystery writers! I especially like Wolf Haas, Andreas Gruber and Bernhard Aichner, though I'm not sure, if any of these are translated into English.

I think JLB really hit his stride with Jolie Blon's Bounce and Purple Cane Road. Those are probably my 2 favorites. Haven't read his new one yet. I'll certainly check out the authors you have mentioned. I liked the Department Q series too. Listening to audiobook of the Alienist by Caleb Carr right now. (read it 15 years ago) Its been made into a miniseries on one of our networks. That will keep u reading all night. Search for a serial killer in 1896 NYC. Awesome characters. Great read!!

I'm Carol. I live in the desert southwest (New Mexico) and read and write murder mysteries. I also teach biochemistry as my day job, so I really love genetics and science mixed into the story. There's a little bit of DNA in the book I've most recently reviewed, 'Curses, Boiled Again' by Shari Randall. I love the title and the cover. I can recommend it for anyone who likes cozies and lobster. I also read a lot of historical romance and historical mysteries, and I LOVE Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child books. Looking forward to interactions and discussions.
