Passage discussion

I have read this book in preparation for a book club meeting that I am leading. I have been unable to find any questions on the internet. I have a few in mind, but could use some more. Can you suggest any questions to ask regarding this book?

Sure.
--What is the meaning of the last few sentences in the last chapter?
--How could the author have made Richard's realization of what Johanna had discovered feel fresh and exciting and somehow a step forward for the reader's understanding too?
and of course the obvious:
--Why do the characters find so many detours at every turn--how does this relate to the book's theme/point?
--Why are the characters' thoughts so full of tight passages, missed cues, turns and twists, desperation?
