I'm guessing by the correction for Diane's points that even if the book's main page lists HF, if it is not HF by the 50yr definition we can't claim a point? Just checking since I'm reading a book now that has HF on it's main page for Genres, but I'm sure it's not HF by this group's definition.

JenC, we have always used the 50 year definition in the group and I believe that is the scholarly definition. The intention in the definition is that the author had to do some type of scholarly historical research on setting to write the book. I have also seen some use 60 years as the cut-off, but 50 years is easier to remember.
The genres that are listed are based on the bookshelves people have used when logging the book. Some people put any book that is in the "past" as historical fiction, where past for some is 50 years, for others it is before they are born, etc. Some also list classics as historical fiction, even though the books had a contemporary setting when they were published (example, Pride and Prejudice). NOTE: Pride, Prejudice and Zombies would meet our criteria :-D
Hi, Margaret,In regard to post #46, I was claiming the "title only" point for The Royal Perfects because the cover has only the title on the cover(no pic)--neglected to include a cover link.

I'm reading Angels & Demons and am 99% sure it's not HF, but it is listed as a genre on the book's main page.
