My reading goals
1. I do a lot of reviewing, and I feel like it took over my life. While I will still continue my current reviewing gigs, I plan to make an effort to read more books I choose to read.
2. My reading goal this year is 230 books. I feel this is a good number since I didn't meet my goal last year, but this is about 11 books over what I did last year (219).
3. To read more of my books I own and more library books. I will buy books that I really want to own or by my favorite authors, but otherwise, I'll try to catch them at the library. I hope to read at least 1-2 library books a month (most likely audio).
4. Don't stress about reading. Just relax and enjoy the experience. It's not a race.
5. Discover new authors and be open to new genres, but also enjoy my first loves: romance, fantasy, and my new loves, mystery and action/adventure.
6. Have fun this year!!!
I think those are mainly my goals. We'll see if I think of anything else.

I only had a small goal last year and I did meet it so I'm aiming higher this year, but only time will tell if I can do it. I'll try my best.
I love vampire books but towards the end of last year I got into romance and ya a lot more. This year I'm going to carry on in these genres aswell as sticking with my vampires.
I didn't really give up on many books but a lot of them on my kindle were freebies and I did delete a few without reading them to make room for other books.
My main goal for reading this year is try out a few authors who have caught my eye and just broaden my horizon more. I'm enjoying reading and want to carry on. There are a few series I want to finish and a few new ones to start. As a whole I'm looking forwarded to the books I'm planing on reading and hopefully I'll be able to share the ones I enjoy the most with you all.
Those are very good goals, Charmaine. I know what you mean about the ever-reproducing TRB pile! And it seems that the more new authors I discover, the more new genres, my want to read pile multiplies exponentially. However, I certainly wouldn't like to run out of books to read. That would be bad!

I'm aiming for 250books this year (last year it was 200 and I exceeded by 100, so I'm aiming a little higher.
I also had success with my challenge participation - all of them were done with at least 75% of books in my insane TBR pile. This year I'll try to increase that to 90%.
I am limiting myself to a maximum of 2books per month that have not been on my tbr pile at least 90days. (since I can't stop adding to the TBR pile.

I know what you mean pat I'm forever downloading new ebooks although I have about 100 on my kindle already. Plus you have all the new authors you find a one book turns to 8 because you just have to read the series lol.
@ lady. I agree I'd rather have too many books then none. And we are very fortunate to live in a world that has too many to read within a lifetime.
I'm glad you met your goals last year, Pat.
I've noticed that challenges do help to get through the tbr pile as well.

I really want to reduce my tbr list aswell. Aiming for 350 books this year, should be easier than the 400 of last year!

I've just had a look at your books Jill and I'm in love. Dam you now my wish list is going to increase by about 200% lol. I so need a jobs I can afford all these books as my library is rubbish.

Good luck on your goal, Stefanie.
I have had health problems and had to retire with disability from my job, so I have more reading time, however, it's harder to read. I hope that you are able to find lots of good books this year!

Hehe. I see, I want to read. Yes, I know I will definitely leave this earth before I read all the books I want to read. That's okay though. I think I will have reading opportunities in heaven!

My reading this past year was spurred more in the direction of erotic romance. I hope to place less emphasis in that area this coming year (pun intended) as I feel I have read all the best and the next layer will not be quite so good.
My DD’s and I are letting go of their YA collection as they have moved away, we went through their stuff and donated ten boxes of books to the Friends of the Library sale. I regularly drop off books at the senior center or Goodwill store.
I also offer on paperbackswap books I know I will not again read. We are trying to get the collection to shrink to match available shelf space, I’ve got quite a way to go before we get there. I will be moving all the nonfiction downstairs as the fiction migrates upstairs, there are now fewer than fifty books piled in front of the fireplace which I’d like to use sometime this winter.
I like Pat’s idea of ‘aging’ the books on the tbr. Too frequently I’ll ignore the pile in favor of something just purchased.
1. I set my reading goal for 2013 at 405 books. This is fewer than I read this year, but I have had less time for reading each year. I went from over 500 in 2010 and I have been reading fewer each year.
2. I will print out pages of my to-read and try to be more systematic about getting to books I have not before read. I began this a few days ago and so far it is working. I sometimes cannot recall which book in a pile would be the first or next unread book in a series without the assistance of a list. If I never re-read a book, I should be able to get through my to-read in seven years at its present rate of growth.
3. Stealing an idea from Lady D: To read more of my books I own and more library books. I will buy secondhand books that I really want to read, but otherwise, I'll try to catch them at the library. I hope to read at least 5-8 library books a month. My budget sadly no longer allows for the purchase of new books. Half Price Books and Paperbackswap.com are my mainstays.
4. Discover new authors. Lurking around this group is a great help. I never would have come across Lisa Kleypas without you folks and she was my best recent ‘find’.
5. Take place in a few challenges. The fun is in selecting books already on the to-read to fit the theme.
6. Explore other genres. I’ve begun reading more history, and would like to continue.
Congrats on meeting your reading goals, Mollie. I am in awe of how many books you read. That's a really good plan for this year. You can do it!

Sorry about your health I hope it's not too bad. I'm reading loads at the moment as I'm unemployed due to being a mum, but if all goes to plan I should be back at work sometime this year. Although I know work will cut out a lot of reading time I'm trying to change my habits. Like read for 30 mins before bed and stuff like that so I don't go weeks without being able to pick up a book.
Thanks, Charmaine. I used to read on my breaks and lunch and at night when I was working full time.

Congrats and good luck, Andrea. You know, I was sort of bummed that I didn't finish all my challenges, but on January 1st, I realized it wasn't as big a deal as I though. Just try again if you don't succeed.

Good luck, Leeanne. Normally, I go up a little each year. It's a smoother way to increase your reading goals.

Good luck you can do it. I'm not a fast reader either but it's the taking part that counts. I find the challenges really help. I've joined a 6 month challenge as well as the yearly goodreads one and DHAGS yearly one.

That's what I like. My 6month challenge is all about new authors and I'm loving finding so many new books.

Last year was the first time I had really explored ebooks. I also started to review for thejeepdiva.com so from there I found many great authors that were epublished so I would have to hunt up there back lists. I enjoyed that but like I siad, I need to read more of what I own too.
I want to catch up on series as well. I like to wait until series are done to read them if there is a continuing story arc but some series that are completed I only lack like 1 or 2 books but I don't want to read them cause then the series will be over but I want to read them...it's a internal debate. But I need to stop debating and read them!
Hopefully we will all meet our goals this year. Happy reading!

Good luck on your challenge, Megan. Just to let you know, we do have some general themed challenges on here as well. The yearly strikethrough challenge, the monthly challenges, and the quarterly challenges are not just for dangerous hero books.

Did you know I wrote that right before I found the strike through challenge? lol Of course I was just reading the thread about what ppl are reading now, the first books of 2013 and Beast sounded good so I bought it. I am not doing very well on my goal, lol, I get distracted so easy by good books!
@Megan, I read your post here first, and then I saw you signed up for the challenge. Glad it worked out for you.
I hope you just have a good reading year, regardless!
I definitely recommend Beast.

Did you meet your goals last year?
Was your reading spurred in a particular direction last year?
Were you encouraged to let go of some 'dead reading weight', like books you know you won't read more of, or authors you have parted ways with?
