Picoult or van Leer style?

Between the Lines has Picoult notorious characters perspectives narrative and an shocking and this time lacking ending. Do you think this fairy tale shows more Picoult style's or van Leer style's? And what about Picoult doing this kind of book full of fantasy and "magic", different from what she had done before?

I think it is more van Leer's style than Picoult's, however you can definitely see Picoult's influence throughout the book. I thoroughly enjoyed this book even though it was completely different from what Picoult normally writes; however you must remember this was her daughter (van Leer's) concept, so it should be van Leer's style and it should be different than Picoult's normal writing.

I agree with Kristy...Picoult worked in conjunction with her daughter to help develop her daughter's (wonderfully imaginative) idea. Therefore, the book was bound to be different from Picoult's typical writings. I am pleased that Picoult didn't stifle Van Leer's vision for the story with her own influence; it was a good combination of Picoult's talent and Van Leer's creativity.

I disagree that the ending was lacking. Bear in mind that this story is a fairytale. Fairytales usually end with the vague "happily ever after." This one ended with what the main characters yearned for: hope and possibility.

As for Picoult writing a book full of fantasy and "magic," I think it was more of a one-time thing...an endeavor to help her daughter break through as a published author. She'll no doubt return to her typical writing style and subject matters.
