Constant Reader discussion

Hi everyone. My name is Alex and I am from South Carolina. In the last decade I have read almost nothing as I left college to support my family. I have recently started reading novels again and I have really enjoyed it to the point that I am hooked and want to of read everything. I have been looking for a group with good discussions of monthly reads and hopefully I have found it here. I enjoy reading classics, science fiction, historical novels, but as noted will pretty much read anything. About the only thing I keep my distance from is chick lit and some of the teen fiction stuff like Twilight. I hope I will find some great reads through the group and to learn a lot from the discussions.

Hi! My name is Lacey, and I am so excited to have found this group. I'm a few weeks away from being 26 years old, and recently moved back to my hometown in western NC to start a career in bankruptcy law.

I love being part of a community - and have made a commitment to being an active member of my small town. I have always loved reading, and would often carry books to restaurants, road trips, vacations, etc. as a kid. I'm enthused to find a group with similar interests, and the opportunity to learn from so many others!

Awesome! I just had the most delicious supper in Waynesville this weekend at The Sweet Onion - so many good restaurants in Asheville, but this one is definitely worth checking out!

Asheville is crazy full of good restaurants. If I'm ever in Waynesville around suppertime, I'll try to remember this.

Hi all! My name is Janet, and I am happy that I was accepted into the group, even though I forgot to mention what I am currently reading. I am listening to Memoirs of a Geisha right now, and reading The Red Tent for a group challenge.

My general preference is for new releases, general fiction, historical fiction, selected memoir, and some non-fiction. I am not a fan of sci-fi, or horror. My experience with the classics is mostly limited to required reading in high school and college.

I enjoy book discussions, online and/ in person. I am looking forward to reading and discussing My Antonia in July.

I thought Memoirs of a Geisha was a great book. I also liked The Red Tent. It gave me a whole new understanding Old Testament Biblical times, including polygamy.

I live in a Bath, UK, where I belong to two face-to-face reading groups. I have always loved books since learning to read at age 4.
I read mainly literary fiction and classics, but have recently started enjoying crime fiction too, thanks to a recommendation by a friend.
Just need more hours in the day, especially right now when a new kitty has come to live with me!

I live in the US and visited Bath 30 yrs ago. Just this past week, one of my local friends was in Bath and posted some nice travel photos. My most vivid memory of Bath is overlooking a meticulously maintained park, near the river.

I joined because reading the "classics" is a taste I am trying to develop.

Hi, I'm Rebecca. Im a book addict from early on.
I enjoy books of all kinds but especially love thrillers, mysteries and short story collections.
I read poetry when I can't sleep. Yeats is my favorite.
I search out indie books and dusty forgotten novels and frequently find gems.
I proudly own all of Stephen King's books in hardcover and am a huge fan.

Welcome, Carson, from a fellow North Carolinian. I live in Asheville. We usually go to OBX once a year. Congratulations on your graduation and I bet you're looking forward to living in Russia for a while.

Welcome, Carson. Where will you be in Russia? I've been in love with Russian culture since I was 16 and finally realized my dream of visiting there in my 40's, for two different 3-week periods. The first was as part of a professional exchange group and the second was as the guest of friends we made during the exchange program. We also spent time in Ukraine. Our experiences there were not at all disappointing even though my expectations were a bit romanticized from years of reading and learning and wanting to go. I now have a nephew who is married to a woman from near Rostov.

St Petersburg and then train to Ukraine (Ovrich, Zhitomir, Kiev) and train to Moscow on first trip.

St. Petersburg, Novgorod, and then boat trip on Lake Ladaga with stops at Valam and Petrosovadsk on the 2nd trip.

Spelling is approximate so I hope I didn't butcher anything too badly.

Hi, Barbara. I also lived in Michigan. I grew up in Jackson and then lived in Dearborn. Ann Arbor and Petoskey are my favorite Michigan locations. I am a fan of Gwen Frostic's work!

Ruth, I live in Ypsilanti, about 20 minutes drive, at the most, from Ann Arbor and love it too. Unbelievably, I've never been to Petoskey!

We both know the I94 corridor quite well! The fall colors in the Petoskey area are gorgeous. I haven't been in Petoskey for years and I imagine it has built up with vacation properties etc. Bet it is still beautiful.

I enjoy reading regional/state authors. I am wondering if you have any favorites from Michigan/Midwest.

Greetings All! I am Karen and I am a librarian here in Wyoming. I especially enjoy reading Literary Fiction. Being a member of an online book club is a new experience for me. A group of fellow librarians and I had a book club for a number of years, but over time we have gone inactive. I miss the engaging discussions and the prompting to read books I might not have selected for myself. Looking forward to being an active member of this group!
