Are you Enlightened???
Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Why or why not?

PEOPLE SHOULD HAVE THE RIGHT TO EXPRESS THEMSELVES ANYWHERE, ANYTIME AND ANYWAY.

message 2: by Aliya (new)

Aliya I totally agree with that. You are who you are nobody should make fun of you because it's you .

I am an animal activist, and have been wanting to be a proticiner (is that the right word?) for a while now. And I agree that anyone has the right to do anything that expresses themself within limits. And when I say limits I mean that you can't run naked around the city, and say that you're "expressing" yourself.

Therefor you don't agree with the statement, but you think that people should have a little more freedom right?
I can agree with you there.

I see.......

message 14: by korrinamoe (new)

korrinamoe I am 50-50. What if they decide to express themselves with a gun where they want to and how they wanted to. That wouldn't be fair. But then we should have the right to talk about our religion, likes, dislikes, and things like that.

Irene Hollimon Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Why or why not?

PEOPLE SHOULD HAVE THE RIGHT TO EXPRESS THEMSELVES ANYWHERE, ANYTIME AND ANYWAY.

Absolutely Not! I'm actually a believer in free speech (freedom of expression). However, I do not believe in complete, absolute free speech(freedom of expression). I believe there need to be limits. For example I do not believe a person should be able to go into a crowded theater and scream FIRE!!! This could excite a riot and lead to injuries. One shouldn't be able to do that and then claim the right of free speech (freedom of expression)afterward. I do not believe you can say anything you want about another person and then claim the right of free speech. If that were the case, if you didn't like your neighbor, you could tell everyone in the neighborhood he's a child molester and claim the right of free speech(freedom of expression) for it.
No, while we do need free speech, we can't have totally free speech. There must be limitations.
So sure express yourself, but do it within reason and no, not in ANYway and ANYwhere ANYtime.

I particularly wish that guy that's in front of me in the gym who keeps farting and stinking me out would curb his freedom of expression. I really don't want to smell that. Have some manners. Express that in the bathroom.

message 16: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (djinni) Hate speech=no

message 17: by Dan (new)

Dan I'm pretty much with Irene. You have the right to free expression as long as you don't exercise that right in a way that infringes on someone else's rights. She already gave great examples of this, so I won't bother adding any. This limit applies not just to the right of free expression, but to all rights. For example, you have a right to practice whatever religion you want, but not if that religion requires human sacrifice, etc.

message 18: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (djinni) No human sacrifice? awwwwwwwwwwwwww

lol

I disagree though the constitution allows it

message 20: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (djinni) The consititution doesn't allow everything, all the time. There are limits on how public and offensive you can make it. It just said no laws preventing the free exersise of it.

message 21: by Daisy (new)

Daisy True: Human Sacrafice is not allowed because you would be charged with murder though I'm not sure if you could appeal your case because of freedom of religion

could you?

message 22: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (djinni) No way. Human rights and safety trump religious freedom.

message 23: by Daisy (last edited Apr 28, 2009 02:30PM) (new)

Daisy Okay good I was afraid that they could and then I would be all "OH MY GODESS CARMELLA, SUSANNAH! PETITION!!!! WE MUST TAKE THIS TO SUPREME COURT!!!"

message 24: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (djinni) lol

Already been done I believe.

message 25: by Daisy (new)

No, it doesn't allow it. In fact, in some ways it's illeagal.

message 27: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (djinni) People don't have the right to be mean or stupid. :)

message 28: by Milana (new)

Milana (tutuintopointe) | 779 comments Mod
yeah, I agree, people should express their feelings in other ways than violence.

message 29: by Christy (new)

Christy Stewart (christyleighstewart) Violence is an art form, I say people should express themselves with violence more often.

message 30: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (djinni) But your right to art stops at other people's right to safety.

message 31: by Christy (new)

Christy Stewart (christyleighstewart) What the government says their right to safety is? Or what I say their right to safety is?

My votes create the laws (so they say) so I'll just skip the middle man and make my own rules.

message 32: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (djinni) "2225408 What the government says their right to safety is? Or what I say their right to safety is? "

If your idea of violent art is beating up people, you are hurting them ,and their right is to not be randomly be hurt by you.

message 33: by Christy (new)

Christy Stewart (christyleighstewart) What if it isn't random?

message 34: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (djinni) It is still not your right to hurt them. WHere would the world be is random acts of violence were okay?

message 35: by Christy (new)

Christy Stewart (christyleighstewart) Lauren wrote: "WHere would the world be is random acts of violence were okay? "

message 38: by Jayda (new)

Jayda Well, it depends... are you a conservative? B) Just kidding. I agree with you!

That will only happen if we marry, H =P

message 39: by Christy (new)

Christy Stewart (christyleighstewart) Let us marry. Post haste.

message 40: by Jayda (new)

Jayda Haha xD What should we set as the date?

message 41: by Christy (new)

Christy Stewart (christyleighstewart) Hmmm...Well how long does it take to get a sex change, because you're getting one first. I'm not marrying some chick.

But we can still make love...

message 42: by Jayda (new)

Jayda I'm laughing so hard right now xD

There is no way I'm getting a sex change. I enjoy being a girl <3 You'll have to get the sex change.

message 43: by Christy (new)

Christy Stewart (christyleighstewart) .....Already you are ordering me around. You're just like your mother!

message 44: by Jayda (new)

Jayda Hm... See, I need to be the wife if I'm ordering you around! =P That's what wives do!

message 45: by Christy (new)

message 46: by Jayda (new)

Jayda I watch Oprah, as well. AND Dr. Phil! xD You can be the husband that I force to watch Oprah and secretly likes it but won't admit it. And I'm sure that there are straight men who do watch it :) It can be our little secret.

message 47: by Christy (new)

message 48: by Jayda (new)
