I feel as if it kind of lacks luster now (the Chicagoland series) with me not wanting to give it a chance, but too many rave reviews are having me push forward in the series.

I may actually start reading Howl's Moving Castle (Howl's Moving Castle, #1) by Diana Wynne Jones kind of as a break and kind of because I just watched the movie and am so inspired I want to read the book that is just sitting on my Kindle...

Ninab (Honesty is the Best Policy) | 149 comments Finished Crux (Southern Arcana, #1) by Moira Rogers - 3.5 stars. Didn't quite make it to 4 stars, there was just something about the flow of the writing that didn't feel quite right. Still a good book with characters that felt real.

Amy ~Lover of Books~ | 400 comments Finished this Everbound (Everneath, #2) by Brodi Ashton yesterday and I absolutely loved this! 5 stars

Just finished Confessions of a Murder Suspect by James Patterson and gave it 3 stars because I thought it was an okay read overall.

Angie (pinkindle) I'm a little more than halfway through Crank (Crank, #1) by Ellen Hopkins .

Ninab (Honesty is the Best Policy) | 149 comments Finished Hunting Human (Prime Legacy, #1) by Amanda E. Alvarez - 4 stars. I stayed up way too late trying to finish this last night because I just couldn't put it down. The author does a good job at creating very emotionally-real characters (perhaps too good - the back-and-forth relationship between the main characters was perhaps a little too real in the sense I wished they were a little less emotionally complex) and I enjoyed the story a lot. I would definitely continue with the series should the author put more books out (I hope she does).

Ninab (Honesty is the Best Policy) | 149 comments Finished Dragon Actually (Dragon Kin, #1) by G.A. Aiken - 3.5/4 stars. Nice fluffy read.

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments I'm still working my way through the audio of Lover At Last (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #11) by J.R. Ward . Not enough time to listen, but not too sad about it b/c it's making the book last longer. :)

Finished reading With All My Soul (Soul Screamers, #7) by Rachel Vincent , which was a very well-done finale to the series.

Reading When Shadows Call (Shaede Assassin, #0.5) by Amanda Bonilla - the Shaede Assassin prequel. I'm anxious to start Blood Trade (Jane Yellowrock, #6) by Faith Hunter after that.

Ninab, I read Hunting Human a while ago and enjoyed it. I'm happy to see she's making it a series. At the time, it was a stand-alone on NetGalley. I'll definitely check out books in that series.

Have you just read the first one? I liked the first 2 and the third and fourth were meh and I loved the fifth.

Ninab (Honesty is the Best Policy) | 149 comments Finished Deadlands Hunt by G.L. Drummond - 3.5/4 stars. I really can't stay away from a werewolf-cowboy combo, especially when that combo is packaged in a quiet-type alpha. Set on another planet that was colonized by humans a while ago, it was nice to visit this fantasy frontier setting. The romance was sweet but I was about ready to throw my kindle across the room the last 10-15%. Without the cowboy/Wild West aspect it probably would have been 3 stars for the hair-pulling ending, but as it is, it makes me smile. Can't help it. :)

Sounds interesting.

Started Ashes of Honor (October Daye, #6) by Seanan McGuire . I love the Toby series, I really do but they are depressing to read.

message 468: by Nichole (new)

Nichole | 1199 comments Hi! I just finished Pale Demon (The Hollows, #9) by Kim Harrison and Archangel's Kiss (Guild Hunter, #2) by Nalini Singh and both were very good. I'm about 1/2 way through Naked (The Blackstone Affair, #1) by Raine Miller and then moving on to God Save the Queen (The Immortal Empire, #1) by Kate Locke . I have House Rules (Chicagoland Vampires, #7) by Chloe Neill on deck but I keep putting it off. Biting Cold (Chicagoland Vampires, #6) by Chloe Neill was a little boring to me so I'm hesitant to start it.

message 469: by Angie (new)

Angie (pinkindle) I'm starting Duplicity (Spellbound #2) by Nikki Jefford today. :)

Ninab (Honesty is the Best Policy) | 149 comments Finished Hunter Moon by Cait Lavender - 3.5 stars. I enjoyed the fact that wolf shifters were really the only paranormal aspect of the book which otherwise dealt with real life problems a rancher might encounter. The writing did not feel the smoothest at times, and I wish there was a little more steam though I do enjoy a slow burn romance. The one other paranormal aspect of the book felt a little contrived but it didn't ruin the book for me. What did make me mad? One word - cliffhanger. Grrrr.

Barbara ★ Finished three shorts Eternity Embraced (Demonica, #3.5) by Larissa Ione Silent Blade (Kinsmen, #1) by Ilona Andrews Silver Shark (Kinsmen, #2) by Ilona Andrews which were good but, well, short.
Also finished Voice of Crow (Aspect of Crow, #2) by Jeri Smith-Ready The Next Always (Inn BoonsBoro, #1) by Nora Roberts Warrior (The Blades of the Rose, #1) by Zoe Archer Born to Bite (Argeneau, #13) by Lynsay Sands U is for Undertow (Kinsey Millhone, #21) by Sue Grafton Devilish by Maureen Johnson

I currently have four books on tap The Postcard Killers by James Patterson Calculated in Death (In Death, #36) by J.D. Robb A Storm of Swords (A Song of Ice and Fire, #3) by George R.R. Martin Frost Burned (Mercy Thompson, #7) by Patricia Briggs

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments Lisa M wrote: "Hi all! I used to comment in this group as Lisa M. Now I'm back as Lisa Annesley."

Welcome back, Lisa! :)

I've had several days of back-to-back book reading (Yipee) and finished:
When Shadows Call (Shaede Assassin, #0.5) by Amanda Bonilla Taken by Storm (Raised by Wolves #3) by Jennifer Lynn Barnes Eternally Devoted (Frostbite, #4) by Stacey Kennedy Blood Trade (Jane Yellowrock, #6) by Faith Hunter Lover At Last (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #11) by J.R. Ward Lost to the Gray (Shaede Assassin, #2.5) by Amanda Bonilla Quicksilver (Ultraviolet, #2) by R.J. Anderson Still (Long Slow Tease, #1) by Ann Mayburn Crave the Darkness (Shaede Assassin, #3) by Amanda Bonilla The Eternity Cure (Blood of Eden, #2) by Julie Kagawa
All I really enjoyed and rated either 4-5★

Taken by Storm (Raised by Wolves #3) by Jennifer Lynn Barnes , Eternally Devoted (Frostbite, #4) by Stacey Kennedy and Quicksilver (Ultraviolet, #2) by R.J. Anderson are the final books in a series and I'm going to miss the worlds/characters in each.

If you haven't started or caught up with Jane Yellowrock, I'd highly recommend it b/c IMO it's getting better with each book.

When Shadows Call (Shaede Assassin, #0.5) by Amanda Bonilla Lost to the Gray (Shaede Assassin, #2.5) by Amanda Bonilla Crave the Darkness (Shaede Assassin, #3) by Amanda Bonilla : Darian, the h in Shaede Assassin, is both awesome and awesomely annoying. Despite her sometimes smack-a-b-upside-the-head moments, I really enjoy that world/characters and after reading two shorts + a full novel so close together the series is really growing on me. I mean, an assassin who can become shadow, what's not to love? Add to that a sexy djinn. :)

The Eternity Cure (Blood of Eden, #2) by Julie Kagawa will be out the end of the month, I got the ARC on NetGalley, and LOVED it. The first, The Immortal Rules, was a great read and I think #2 was even better. SO anxious for #3 now. Another highly recommended series, if you haven't started it.

Still (Long Slow Tease, #1) by Ann Mayburn is the first book in a romance series featuring characters who served in the military (USMC & Navy) together, got out, and are building a BDSM relationship (Domme/sub) as they work through PTSD. Very touching and well-written. Looking forward to continuing that one as well.

Lover At Last (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #11) by J.R. Ward ... be still my beating heart ... Qhuinn and Blay together at last (5★)! The rest of the gobltygook mixed it was okay, but I could'a done without most of it, honestly (3★).

message 474: by Nichole (new)

Nichole | 1199 comments I just finished reading House Rules (Chicagoland Vampires, #7) by Chloe Neill . I think I'm getting bored with this series, the last 2 have only been 3 star reads for me. It's not that they're bad, I'm just bored. I also read Keeping Secret (Secret McQueen, #4) by Sierra Dean , which I gave 4 stars. If you haven't read this series, you should. It's really good. I honestly don't know what I'm going to read next. I have Changeling Moon (Changeling, #1) by Dani Harper , When He Was Bad (Magnus Pack, #3.5) by Shelly Laurenston , and First Grave on the Right (Charley Davidson, #1) by Darynda Jones on hand, but I think I need something that will shake things up a bit. I'm having a hard time focusing lol.

message 479: by Josie (new)

Josie | 1967 comments So true, Sarah, everyone looks to be reading some awesome books. Hope you can get back to reading soon :P

I'm glad there are a few people out there who aren't too keen on Chicagoland Vampires as well! I'm up to #7 and so far the majority of them have been meh reads for me. I'm not sure quite why I keep going because I know that if it hasn't clicked with me now, then it probably never will.

@Nichole: I've been reading Secret McQueen too - just finished both Keeping Secret (Secret McQueen, #4) by Sierra Dean and Grave Secret (Secret McQueen, #5) by Sierra Dean , between 4 - 4.5 stars. Great urban fantasy series.

I've just finished Poison Princess (The Arcana Chronicles, #1) by Kresley Cole . I absolutely loved it! I was expecting it to be not so good because of some of the reviews, and you could probably pick holes in certain parts, but it was so addictive! Kind of had an Angelfall-like feeling.

Sarah Dizon (sarahd828) | 1376 comments I was a huge fan of Chicagoland Vampires, and I am hoping Chloe Neill takes it back to when it was better. My favorite book was #3. I feel like because of (view spoiler). Here's to hoping the next book is better :)

I still have another month to go, then I can spend all the time I want reading! That's what's pushing me to finish haha

message 481: by Nichole (new)

Nichole | 1199 comments Sarah, that is exactly what I think too! But I have a hard time walking away from something that I'm that far into, Hello Anita Blake :)

I also added Rogue's Pawn by Jeffe Kennedy , I might have to read this sooner rather than later. Maybe it will bring me out of my funk.

Ninab (Honesty is the Best Policy) | 149 comments Finished Bayon & Jean-Baptiste (Bayou Heat #3-4) by Alexandra Ivy - 3.25 stars. First installment (Raphel/Parish) was better IMO.

I'll definitely be looking out for this author in the future.

Nichole | 1199 comments I just finished When He Was Bad (Magnus Pack, #3.5) by Shelly Laurenston and gave it 4 stars. The first story was Great! The heroine made me think of Sheldon from The Big Bang Theory. The second story was okay. I also read Holy Smokes (Aisling Grey Guardian, #4) by Katie MacAlister and it was 3 stars for me. I'm reading Storm's Heart (Elder Races, #2) by Thea Harrison now. I have yet to read a book this year that blows my socks off. Nothing is standing out as "fantastic, I have to tell everyone I know about it"! I hate that. Maybe next month will be better...

It disturbed my sleep, in fact it pretty much gave me nightmares. And after I'd just read the heartbreaking book Prey (Shifters, #4) by Rachel Vincent ! I'm going to go straight onto the second Truth.

Hopefully I will go onto some lighter reading soon after getting Cinder (Lunar Chronicles, #1) by Marissa Meyer Scarlet (Lunar Chronicles, #2) by Marissa Meyer Between the Lines (Between the Lines, #1) by Tammara Webber from the library :)

Little reading done while on holiday, but I did read Dire Warning (Eternal Wolf Clan, #0.5) by Stephanie Tyler . It's not really a prequel, IMO, but I am interested to read more about the sexy Dire wolves. Thanks for the rec. :)
