Ames, Wild Invitation is a quick read and I really enjoyed Gunmetal Magic.

From all accounts above, if you start Dark House first, be prepared to read them all very quickly. LOL

AH | 2271 comments Ames, I just got approved for an ARC of Red Rising!!!

Darkhouse is like crack. You'll want the rest of the series.

Alyssa Mae | 5 comments I am currently reading Xander's Chance (Damian Eternal, #1) by Lizzy Ford by Lizzy Ford. :)

message 654: by Literary Ames (new)

Literary Ames (amyorames) | 1854 comments I haven't decided which one I'm going to read yet but I've noticed lots of people have been obsessively reading the Darkhouse series so I know it must be a good read.

Also, I forgot I'd collected It's a Book by Lane Smith from the library yesterday and it's awesome! I love it so much I'm going to buy a copy just like I did with The Library by Sarah Stewart .

message 655: by Barbara ★ (new)

Barbara ★ Finished Iceberg (Dirk Pitt, #3) by Clive Cussler Deadly Fear (Deadly, #1) by Cynthia Eden Sleeping Arrangements by Madeleine Wickham Odalisque (Percheron, #1) by Fiona McIntosh Tin Swift (Age of Steam, #2) by Devon Monk

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments Finished Into the Hollow (Experiment in Terror, #6) by Karina Halle . I may be reaching my EIT fill b/c I wasn't as taken by the story in this one. That said, the interactions between Dex & Perry ... top-notch awesomesauce! (To steal a phrase from Miss LL) :D

I'm reading This Is Who I Am (Masters of the Shadowlands, #7) by Cherise Sinclair before moving onto And With Madness Comes the Light (Experiment in Terror, #6.5) by Karina Halle .

message 657: by Literary Ames (new)

Literary Ames (amyorames) | 1854 comments I've just realised the image Steph used for the opening post of this thread is from It's a Book by Lane Smith .

I started Dead to You by Lisa McMann but it's so sad and emotional that I think I have to put it aside for now, though I've no doubt it will get a high rating from me in the end.

I think I'm going to read Gunmetal Magic (Kate Daniels World #1) by Ilona Andrews because the authors always put a smile on my face.

message 658: by Josie (last edited May 31, 2013 03:39PM) (new)

Josie | 1967 comments I still haven't read 'Gunmetal Magic' yet so hope you like it Ames! I feel like I need to read it soon seeing as Magic Rises (Kate Daniels #6) by Ilona Andrews is nearing release (I feel like the only one but I have to say I love the cover/new model) - does anyone know if you have to read GM first?

message 659: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments Gunmetal Magic has overlapping plot points from Magic Slays, its just all from Andrea's pov, then it goes just a little further than MS.

So you could probably get away with not reading GM first, but why wouldn't you read it anyway? They are just such a great writing team ;)

I like the new cover but I agree with the majority that she looks a little young for Kate.

message 660: by Lis (new)

Lis | 4037 comments Trying to get a few freebies in before bingo starts and reading Silvers Alpha (Silvers, #1) by Samantha Bates which isn't bad if you're not too picky about the editing. Also read Celtic Storms (Celtic Steel, #1) by Delaney Rhodes which was just ok.

Sandra | 25908 comments Good, I've got Silvers Alpha, just have to remember to read it ;)

Lol! I will read it though I didn't know it overlapped with Magic Slays :)
Regarding the cover I like that it's brighter and more eye-catching, I also like that the model is quite striking. Weirdly I always thought the previous model looked slightly too old seeing as kate is only... 24? Is that right? Anyway, it's probably because I'm soon to be 22 and I look about 12 that I don't mind too much :P

message 663: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments Josie, that sounds like my sister. She's only 6 yrs younger than me but she passes for an older sister of her eldest, who is 22. ROFL

message 664: by Josie (new)

Josie | 1967 comments LMAO! I'm hoping that will be me but I know that when I hit a certain age I'll soon catch up and look my age ;)

message 665: by Ellese (new)

Ellese (faithfulumbrella) | 60 comments I haven't written in a while but I just finished, in the last month and a half,
The Witness by Nora Roberts Nightshifted (Edie Spence, #1) by Cassie Alexander Fall of Night (The Morganville Vampires, #14) by Rachel Caine Moonshifted (Edie Spence, #2) by Cassie Alexander
and a book that is somehow not listed on goodreads and is a manga, The Adventures of Johnny Bunko.

I have several that for some reason I cannot finish and so many to start I don't know where to begin. I think my next read tho will probably be Deadly Sting (Elemental Assassin, #8) by Jennifer Estep

I just picked that one up over Memorial Day weekend. Good to hear that it's a good one. :)

Valerie ~ Val Hall ~ | 9662 comments I read a few little things lately but only managed to finish Edge of Dawn (Midnight Breed, #11) by Lara Adrian The Lies of Locke Lamora (Gentleman Bastard, #1) by Scott Lynch Shadowlander (Shadow Sisters, #1) by Theresa Meyers .

I'm currently trying to finish Sandman Slim (Sandman Slim, #1) by Richard Kadrey for Bingo. While it's a very nice story...after reading Locke Lamora...it's less satisfying.

message 671: by Ezi (new)

Ezi Chinny (ezinwanyi) | 2516 comments Val,
I loved Edge of Dawn, which was a passing of the torch kind of book for the Midnight Breed men. I am exited about the direction of the story.

I agree that it's a good direction for the story. I was expecting something like Walking Dead but skipping 20 years kind of shut down the idea. My only problem was Kellen was a bit TSTL with his guilt trip...otherwise it gave new life to the series.

message 673: by Ezi (new)

Ezi Chinny (ezinwanyi) | 2516 comments I agree. Kellan was a bit dramatic. Mira was very forgiving too. But i like how the author keeps the series much tighter than Ward keeps BDB.
BDB is my favorite, but damn, the author has so much going on with all the time

message 674: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments I wanna start that series this year, Sandra. Glad to see you're enjoying it.

I've finished Blood Kin (The Half-Light City, #2) by M.J. Scott (not bad) and Heart of Obsidian (Psy-Changeling, #12) by Nalini Singh (A-mazing!) for BSB. Not sure what's up next.

message 675: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments I've got Edge of Dawn (Midnight Breed, #11) by Lara Adrian from the library so it'll be soon, but next up for me is Dead and Gone (Sookie Stackhouse, #9) by Charlaine Harris also from the library. That is so rare (the library having books I want to read) that I gotta take advantage when I can.

message 676: by Literary Ames (new)

Literary Ames (amyorames) | 1854 comments I've literally just finished Heart of Obsidian (Psy-Changeling, #12) by Nalini Singh after it's released at midnight in the UK. ★★★★★ [Yes, I read through the night. Totally worth it.]

Yes, you are really missing out....is it in the SOS bookshelf so that I can sneak it in as a Free Space book?

message 682: by AH (new)

AH | 2271 comments I'll fit it in. For BSB, my rule is that I have got to read books I have on hand. No buying, borrowing books. Preferably read a freebie.

Valerie ~ Val Hall ~ | 9662 comments Honorable intentions.

I listed it on the "New Releases for June" which counts for free space too...

I'm also reading Something Secret This Way Comes (Secret McQueen, #1) by Sierra Dean and listening to Heart of Obsidian (Psy-Changeling, #12) by Nalini Singh for BSB, and both good so far.

Tracy | 237 comments Just finished First Grave on the Right (Charley Davidson, #1) by Darynda Jones and not real sure I am going to finish the series. Perhaps I will give it one more shot to see if the second one will redeem the series for me. I also finished Bitter is the New Black by Jen Lancaster and although it isn't a series Lancaster has several other books similar and I am loving them. Right now I am reading If You Were Here by Jen Lancaster and Dark Lover (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #1) by J.R. Ward

I think people either love or hate the Charley Davidson series. Probably the humor that throws people off (which is a bit toned down in the second book). I enjoy the series, but don't force yourself if it isn't connecting for you.

message 695: by Tracy (new)

Tracy | 237 comments I will probably read the second Jean because I love humorous books and I didn't hate it. Worth one more shot.

Ellese (faithfulumbrella) | 60 comments Just finished The Surgeon (Jane Rizzoli & Maura Isles, #1) by Tess Gerritsen and made progress with Deadly Sting (Elemental Assassin, #8) by Jennifer Estep .

I will admit that The Surgeon is a very dark read, but still good. Deadly Sting is so far sounding a lot like the other books in the series...I only wish something new would happen and this bullshit with Owen wouldn't keep going...but alas, authors and their "tension"...
