Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments Are you starting it soon? I'd love to hear what you think of it. I have set it aside and may return to it later to see if I can soldier on. But, I'm thinking it's gonna be a rough road. :/ May just have to quit and come up with a polite "not for me" response.

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments Oh well. Let me know what ya think when you've finished it. Thanks for your help. I'll see how the rest goes and put something together for NetGalley.

Sandra | 25908 comments That sounds pretty awful!!!!

I'm not one for prose and that's what I consider all that extra bumf adjectives. I guess that's why I don't read "literature" very often :D

Good luck with the kiss of death Steph ;)

That's exactly it. It's just really not for me. Augh. I do not look forward to writing up a not-for-me review. But, I gotta do it. I tried to read more and just kept rolling my eyes. Can't even make it far enough in to the smexy bits (if they're in there somewhere) to see how those fair. LOL!

YAY! Knew ya would! I cannot imagine any P-C fan not loving that book, although I'm sure there are some. There's not as much as action as others, but damn, what a fantastic read!

I read The Wicked (Elder Races, #5.5) by Thea Harrison and really enjoyed it. I realized I missed a short (Hunter's Season), so I'll read that one soon.

I also started listening to Deadlocked (Sookie Stackhouse, #12) by Charlaine Harris , which I'm enjoying so far. I've started forming a guess as to what may have Sookie fans in an uproar over the finale. But, I'll just roll with it and get there when I get there. I did have trouble initially getting back into the BOOK characters versus the SHOW characters. (view spoiler)

AH | 2271 comments Val, how are you liking WWZ? Did you get the movie tie-in version?

Valerie ~ Val Hall ~ | 9662 comments AH, I heard that the film is nothing like the book so I have no intention to go see it. I'm listening to the audiobook from the library and I must say it's the best audio I've ever listened to. It's very entertaining.

The movie tie in one has an all-star cast and is amazing.

Valerie ~ Val Hall ~ | 9662 comments Mmmm...just checked and it's the Movie Tie-in Edition. The downside of this edition is that it's abridged, oh well.

AH | 2271 comments Valerie ~ Val Hall ~ wrote: "Mmmm...just checked and it's the Movie Tie-in Edition. The downside of this edition is that it's abridged, oh well." I really enjoyed that version. It was fun trying to place all the voices. They got a lot of great actors for each part. Just the credits at the end takes about 5 minutes.

I really enjoy the October Daye series. It's one of my favorites. I'd say it really gets good in the third book An Artificial Night (October Daye, #3) by Seanan McGuire and then gets even better with each book after that. A Local Habitation (October Daye, #2) by Seanan McGuire wasn't my favorite (probably due to the setting most likely), and I considered not finishing it, but I'm definitely glad I continued. I have noticed that people seem to either love this series or hate it, but I think you'll be able to tell by the first book if the series is for you.

I really didn't like anything about Rosemary and Rue (October Daye, #1) by Seanan McGuire . I struggled with book one and didn't read the rest of the series.

message 767: by chucklesthescot (new)

chucklesthescot I'm working my way through Cemetery Club by J.G. Faherty which has been good so far.

message 768: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments Funny you should be reading Deadlocked (Sookie Stackhouse, #12) by Charlaine Harris Steph, cause I picked up Dead Reckoning (Sookie Stackhouse, #11) by Charlaine Harris this morning and I'm about 3/4 through. I can see why some peeps consider this series on the downslide, but I'm quite enjoying it. And I've got Deadlocked from the library to read as well ;)

message 769: by chucklesthescot (new)

chucklesthescot I finished Cemetery Club by J.G. Faherty and I'll be starting Carnival Of Fear by J.G. Faherty

message 770: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments I actually enjoyed Rosemary and Rue (October Daye, #1) by Seanan McGuire - -it was a 3.5 star book for me but decent. Nothing that rocked my world but it wasn't bad, better than average.

I just finished Starglass by Phoebe North and it blew me away! What a fantastic book.

*shakes fist at GR, which ate my post*

I'm glad you're enjoying it. You've caught up quickly, yah? :) I'm liking Deadlocked as well. I'll probably start the finale soon after finishing this one.

I read a bit more of The Silver Chain. Guess I'll take little bites here and there until I get through it. I really don't like the idea of submitting a DNF to NetGalley.

I also read Hunter's Season (Elder Races #4.7) by Thea Harrison , which I liked, but not as much as the most recent one (The Wicked). Still, a decent novella in the series. Getting excited about the upcoming full-length novel in Nov.

message 773: by AH (new)

AH | 2271 comments Steph, I DNF'd The Silver Chain. I just couldn't do it. You should check out the reviews.

Sandra | 25908 comments I finished Deadlocked (Sookie Stackhouse, #12) by Charlaine Harris yesterday, now just have to see if the library has the last one :)

And I still have to get The Wicked (Elder Races, #5.5) by Thea Harrison

ETA: Yes! my library has it, Boo! someone else has borrowed it.

Nichole | 1199 comments I just finished a re-read of The Siren (The Original Sinners, #1) by Tiffany Reisz . That series is Fan-freaking-tastic.
I' m starting Sacrificial Magic (Downside Ghosts, #4) by Stacia Kane for Bingo. Yay! I'm thinking it's going to be hard to top those this month.

message 776: by Ellese (new)

Ellese (faithfulumbrella) | 60 comments Thanks all for the feedback on Rosemary and Rue (October Daye, #1) by Seanan McGuire , I have started it but I am also reading Hard Bitten (Chicagoland Vampires, #4) by Chloe Neill and Up In Flames (Nighthawk Island) (Harlequin Intrigue #1029) by Rita Herron for a light/trashy read that is turning out to be a decent-ish book...

message 777: by chucklesthescot (new)

chucklesthescot I'm reading Carnival Of Fear by J.G. Faherty and it is a great horror read. Should finish it today.

message 778: by Josie (new)

Josie | 1967 comments WOW Sandra! I can't believe you've almost finished the Sookie series. Did you recently start from the beginning or had you read some of them? I've had a lot of the books for years and still haven't got round to reading them though since they're finished and you've nearly done it, it's kind of inspired me to try to make time for them. How do you rate the series?

@Steph: I say don't bother with The Silver Chain. Looking at the rating and reviews it seems a crap book. So many good ones to read!

message 779: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments Josie, I'd read the first 5 or 6 (all the ones that I owned) last year then thought I better read the rest (got these ones from the library), after all the True Blood talk etc. Mind you I've haven't seen any of TB. So 1 more to go plus a couple of extraneous novellas.

I quite liked the series and for me reading them fairly close together I didn't get the let-down feeling so many others did. I didn't mind the fact that nothing was happening, it actually made it feel more real. All the day-to-day happenings interspersed with all the supernatural stuff.

message 780: by Josie (new)

Josie | 1967 comments Thanks Sandra! Yeah, if I started I would likely read them back-to-back. I'm going to try to read them soon, glad you enjoyed them :)

I'm currently reading

Terminated (Revivalist, #3) by Rachel Caine . This is the third book in a really different zombie series - it's more conspiracy thriller than paranormal or UF and it is a fun series to read.

message 784: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments Go, Sandra! I'm still listening to #12, but have #13 lined up once I'm finished.

I've been reading Taking on the Dead (The Famished Trilogy, #1) by Annie Walls for BSB. While it has some similarities to some of the other post-apoc zombie books I've read (and liked), I am really liking it. The characters feel real and some (MC included) are definitely some I'd love to have around if something like that ever happened.

Thanks, guys. I'm going to take your advise and dump The Silver Chain (The Unbreakable Trilogy, #1) by Primula Bond . This book is so not for me. I'll take a look at the reviews after I come up with something for mine. My first DNF for NetGalley, but I'm sure they see it occasionally.

message 787: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments Steph I have had that book (Taking on the Dead) on my kindle for almost a year now. I need to get to it.

I am listening to The 5th Wave (The Fifth Wave, #1) by Rick Yancey -- it is fun and very Hollywood (so while not deep it is fast moving).

I just finished Into the Light by Ellen O'Connell and loved it! I love this author.

I am starting Rivers by Michael Farris Smith The Story Guy (Novella) by Mary Ann Rivers

I love the Lupi series too. Eagerly waiting for Ritual Magic -the next book out in September.

message 789: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments I need to get back into World of Lupi too. Don't remember why, but I stopped around book 4 or so.

Hope you like Taking on the Dead, Regina. I did, but had some issues (shared them in my review: http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/..., if you're interested). I'll be continuing on with the trilogy b/c I really like the world she's created and how it all plays out.

I really enjoyed 5th Wave. Glad you are too.

I bailed on The Silver Chain, posted a modest nonreview at NetGalley, and happily deleted it from my Kindle. Phew.

Just about to wrap up the audio of Deadlocked and start Dead Ever After.

message 793: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments Oh, sorry. LOL! Actually, I'm liking it. It's not the best of the bunch, but definitely not the worst. A solid 3-stars, at this point. It's been a trip trying to keep the book and TV show characters separated in my head as I am reading this one while watching the show every week. Really makes me realize how much is different in the show. I read book #11 in 2011, so it's been awhile since I've spent time in Charlaine's Bon Temps.

I don't care how she fixes this, she still took away my trust (much like Ethan does with Merit...wonder where that character trait comes from...) I am still going to read it, but I am pissed for this night lol

You're totally justified in your pissed-off-ness. I was unfortunate (or maybe fortunate) enough to already know the big spoiler before I read that book (I was really pissed about that slip-up though - stupid Facebook needs spoiler tags), so it probably helped me deal with it. Maybe you need a humorous book next...
