Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments ;) I've got my copy of Magic Rises (Kate Daniels #6) by Ilona Andrews in my hot, little hands and as soon as I'm done with all the must-do's for the day, I'm settling down for some one-on-one Kate & Curran time! :D

One major bonus of being back in the US - I'm back in the land of true two-day shipping! Pause for fan-girl dance

I read these shorts: Zombie Dash by Mark Matthews Outcome (Breakers) by Edward W. Robertson Icy Temptation (Angels of Rock #1) by Marisa Chenery and finished listening to Phantom Shadows (Immortal Guardians, #3) by Dianne Duvall .

Ellese (faithfulumbrella) | 60 comments Darn, I forgot to order my copy of Magic Rises (Kate Daniels #6) by Ilona Andrews but I haven't read a Kate Daniels book since the last one came out....I need to re-read the series but have absolutely no time for that...

Just finished Rosemary and Rue (October Daye, #1) by Seanan McGuire and actually enjoyed it! Again going to try and finish Drink Deep (Chicagoland Vampires, #5) by Chloe Neill and possibly start a new book too?

message 854: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments That's one of the series I re-read. I was surprised at how much I had forgotten. Well, not truly forgotten, but the refresher was nice. I just loved seeing their relationship change and grow all over again.

I'm reading Magic Rises (Kate Daniels #6) by Ilona Andrews and listening to Steel's Edge (The Edge, #4) by Ilona Andrews

I'm really liking it so far, Sarah. The narrator is awesome. I plan to jump back to #3 when I'm done (I accidentally skipped it).

Hope you have fun on holiday, Melissa!

Aw, last Riley. I really miss that series!

LOVED Magic Rises too, Lis. Very hard to top His Furriness!

I'm reading Last Blood (House of Comarré, #5) by Kristen Painter , the "House of Comarré" finale.

Ninab (Honesty is the Best Policy) | 149 comments Finished Forged in Blood II (The Emperor's Edge, #7) by Lindsay Buroker - ★★★★★. Fantastic end to a fantastic series though I'm sad it's over. First book in the series is free if you want to give it a try - I definitely recommend it!

message 871: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments Finished Moon Sworn (Riley Jenson Guardian, #9) by Keri Arthur last night and loved it.

That is the way to finish a series, ahem, some authors should take note *looking at you Ms Harris*!!

message 872: by Josie (new)

Josie | 1967 comments Well done to all three of you for completing series (and Melissa for being almost done)! So Ninab and Sandra loved theirs, Steph do you recommend House of Comarre?

message 873: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments Thanks Josie ;)

Yes Steph, how are you finding House of Comarre?

message 874: by Josie (new)

Josie | 1967 comments ;) I'm so jel, that's 2 series now that you've powered through (Riley and Sookie) which I am desperately behind on LOL!

message 875: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments Well, I was desperately behind on them both as well. LOL.

I decided to read at least one a month in challenges. Then when I got close to the end, I just had to finish them to find out what happened.

message 876: by Josie (new)

Josie | 1967 comments I'm going to have to do the same! I need to read at least Riley by the end of the year :)

message 877: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments Now I'll have to start on the spinoff :)

message 878: by Josie (new)

Josie | 1967 comments Ah man! That means I'm even further behind :P
Hope you find them as good as Riley.

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments Sandra wrote: "That is the way to finish a series, ahem, some authors should take note *looking at you Ms Harris*!!"

LOL! ;) So true.

I would recommend HoC. It's an interesting series with different levels (fringe & nobles) of vampires, a mix of different types of shifters, a ghost, various fae with lots of cool abilities, and humans with abilities including the comarré, "a specially bred human hybrid whose sole purpose is to provide blood and graceful companionship to the vampire nobility." A frustration throughout the series has been that the author switches POV (with many different characters) with each chapter. So, she gets ya on the edge of your seat with one character's story/chapter, then pulls the frickin' chair out from under you and starts another chapter about a different character. She weaves all of their stories together by the end though. I like her writing, but sometimes wish I could stand to jump chapters to get the answers I want faster. LOL!

I finished the finale this AM. It was well-done, but it may have been a little too wrapped up for some readers. By that I mean that every character either got their comeuppance or a HEA. I didn't mind that though; I was just happy she did wrap up the story lines with each of the characters. Some *cough*Harris*cough didn't do that. >;)

I have started the Riley spin-off, but still miss Riley and clan. I should get back to that one actually. I've only read the first book and may find I like it more with each book. Plus, I have them all sitting patiently on my shelf TBR.

I'm almost done listening to Steel's Edge (The Edge, #4) by Ilona Andrews . I really love this narrator. I'll have to see which other series she reads.

And, I'm going to be starting The Darkest Craving (Lords of The Underworld, #10) by Gena Showalter later today for bingo.

message 880: by Nichole (new)

Nichole | 1199 comments Oooh, some good ones here! I really enjoyed the Riley series. I've only read the first book in the spin off and I gave it 4 stars *whispers* but I don't remember anything about it. I haven't read any of her other series either. Huh. I'll add them to Mt. Tbr! I've been pushing Sookie up on the list. I'm so close to being done that I just need to do it! Do any of you watch True Blood? Do you like it?

I've moved Blood Rights (House of Comarré, #1) by Kristen Painter up the list! That looks very interesting. And I'm hoping to start Magic Rises (Kate Daniels, #6) by Ilona Andrews before too long.

Thanks Ninab! I added The Emperor's Edge (The Emperor's Edge #1) by Lindsay Buroker to the mountain :)

Steph, it looks like she narrates the Kate Daniels series. Woohoo! I always love a good narrator! Rosalyn Landor is very good too.

Speaking of narrator's... I'm listening to Anna Dressed in Blood (Anna, #1) by Kendare Blake . Okay, I WAS listening to it but the narrator killed it for me. He talks in hyphens and periods!! It. was. driv-ing. me. cra.zy!! Of course, as soon as I said I hated it someone posted that they LOVED it and that it gets better. Maybe I'll try again *shrugs*

So then I started listening to First Grave on the Right (Charley Davidson, #1) by Darynda Jones . It's hilarious! :) I'm not very far into it though.
I'm also trudging through The Mistress (The Original Sinners, #4) by Tiffany Reisz ! These books are amazing. The writing is brilliant! I just don't like part of the story in this one and I keep taking breaks to ease my annoyance. It's still very good though.

message 881: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments I really enjoy all of Keri Arthur's books (Riley author). Some definitely more than others.

I've read the books and I watch True Blood. The show is buggin' me. I seem to be one of the only people that have a difficult time separating the show from the books. I get frustrated when Bell does certain things with the characters that seem so far out of the norm from their personalities in the books.

Hope you like House of Comarre. I did. :)

Magic Rises is awesome!

You should try reading Anna instead. I really liked those books - the first more than the second.

LOVE Charley Davidson! She's a riot!

I'm a big Tiffany Reisz fan. Yeah, I know what you mean about that one. It wasn't my favorite of the series so far. But, I did like several bits a lot (I won't share them though b/c I don't want to spoil you or anyone else).

message 884: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments Barbara, you're certainly getting through the Amelia Peabody series. I loved the first one many years ago, but when I tried to read another in the series last year, I didn't like it. I'm sure it was me. Hope you continue to enjoy them.

Reading & nearly finished Brawn (New Species, #5) by Laurann Dohner for Bingo.

message 885: by Ellese (new)

Ellese (faithfulumbrella) | 60 comments Finished two audio books Destiny (Rogue Angel, #1) by Alex Archer and Tear of the Gods (Rogue Angel, #31) by Alex Archer

Starting Possession (Greywalker, #8) by Kat Richardson but I too feel a slump coming on...must power through it!!!

Oh I also finished many comics in the past week :D

message 886: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments Since Brawn (New Species, #5) by Laurann Dohner I've finished Magic Rises (Kate Daniels, #6) by Ilona Andrews and Midnight Frost (Mythos Academy, #5) by Jennifer Estep

Looks like there is one more book Killer Frost in the Mythos Academy series.

message 887: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments So, KF is the last one in the series? I have 4-5 TBR.

Read The Darkest Craving (Lords of The Underworld, #10) by Gena Showalter and Wrong Ways Down (Downside Ghosts, #1.5) by Stacia Kane . Almost finished w/ Steel's Edge (The Edge, #4) by Ilona Andrews .

message 888: by Josie (new)

Josie | 1967 comments So many series being finished/caught up with! :P

Sandra (and Steph), how are you liking Mythos Academy? Recommend?

Also Steph, I know a lot people didn't like The Edge books so much, what did you make of them?

message 889: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments Josie, I'm not a YA fan, but I do love Mythos. So many new types of supes - spartans, romans, plus gryphons, nemean lions, rocs.

message 890: by Steph, Serious series addict (last edited Aug 09, 2013 01:04PM) (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments I like Mythos too. I have some issues with the author's serious info dumps, but other than that, it's a fun, quick read. Like Sandra, I like the large mix of creatures and such.

I am a fan of The Edge series. I have noticed it seems to be a love it or hate it series. I have listened to them vs. reading and the narrator rocks! I love the young boys, who we see grow and mature throughout the series. I really like the world IA has built and I'm sad there won't be more to come.

Felt like a re-read but couldn't decide what, loss of power for 4 hrs due to humungous wind storm, finally decided on Moon Called (Mercy Thompson, #1) by Patricia Briggs which I haven't read for a couple of years. Really enjoying it all over again :)
