Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments I decided to put Broken on hold and I am reading the arc The One I Left Behind by Jennifer McMahon and listening to Outpost (Razorland, #2) by Ann Aguirre

The secret (at least for me) is that I don't keep up. :) Too many books...

message 203: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments It is impossible to keep up. I have a couple of series where I'm always up to date and the rest depends on my mood and what I've picked for challenges.

Remember, reading is meant to be fun!!! LOL.

message 204: by Barbara ★ (new)

Barbara ★ Finished Highlander's Challenge (Challenge, #1) by Jo Barrett Ashes to Dust by Yrsa Sigurðardóttir Dark of Night (Troubleshooters, #14) by Suzanne Brockmann Magic Lessons (Magic or Madness, #2) by Justine Larbalestier Q is for Quarry (Kinsey Millhone, #17) by Sue Grafton Hungry As The Sea by Wilbur A. Tiffani Day | 35 comments Just finished Obsidian, book 8 of New Species, it's become another fave in the series. Starting book 9 Shadow which is the last release and ill be looking for my next book by Wednesday I'm sure.

message 206: by Angie (new)

Angie (pinkindle) I started Through the Ever Night (Under the Never Sky, #2) by Veronica Rossi last night. :)

message 207: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments Barbara how did you like Dark of Night? The Troubleshooters is one of my all time favorite series but Dark of Night is my least favorite in that series. If you are like me, I promise the next one is better!

message 208: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments Just finished Vampires Are Forever (Argeneau, #8) by Lynsay Sands and another fun book by Lynsay Sands.

message 209: by Lisa (new)

Lisa M (lisamarienicholas) | 192 comments Hi all. Not sure if this is the right place for this but I just finished Ever After (The Hollows, #11) by Kim Harrison
Was this the last in the series?? I don't know how i feel about the end of this book.. If there is another book in the series my opinion might change.

message 210: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments I think there is more to come, just perusing one of my friends reviews and she stated she'd have to wait a year - presumably for the next book.

Lol true...I hate buying books and never reading them. Although some series were just too much, like the Zodiac series by Vicki Pettersson. And I haven't kept up with the biggies either *cough Laurel K. Hamilton cough Kim Harrison*. I guess they got too old too quick, burned bright and were awesome when I first found them but a couple years later? Meh..

However, I did pull this thread up with the purpose and intent of updating my status on current reading material. Just finished
Bitten (Women of the Otherworld, #1) by Kelley Armstrong and am now working on Stolen (Women of the Otherworld, #2) by Kelley Armstrong ...as well as still trying to work through Some Girls Bite (Chicagoland Vampires, #1) by Chloe Neill and Beautiful Creatures (Caster Chronicles, # 1) by Kami Garcia

message 212: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments Finished Soul Trade (Black London, #5) by Caitlin Kittredge . Still deciding what to read next before the next FL draw.

message 213: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments I just started and stopped 2 arcs -- got to 10% in each of them and didn't like them.

So I am now reading another ARC, I hope I have better luck this time! American Elsewhere by Robert Jackson Bennett and am reading for a real life book club The Fiddler in the Subway And Other Great Pieces You May Have Missed by Gene Weingarten and I am listening to Outpost (Razorland, #2) by Ann Aguirre

message 215: by Regina (last edited Jan 29, 2013 12:23PM) (new)

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments These: The Tin Horse A Novel by Janice Steinberg The Pretty One A Novel about Sisters by Lucinda Rosenfeld

message 216: by Christal (new)

Christal | 374 comments Don't you hate when the blurb sounds so interesting but then you just can't get into the actual story?

message 217: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments Yes! LOL. And I hate the ARC-Guilt that I have for not finishing. :)

Valerie ~ Val Hall ~ | 9662 comments I finished The Shattered Dark (Shadow Reader, #2) by Sandy Williams and was a bit disappointed. Now finishing Sparks Fly (Light Dragons, #3) by Katie MacAlister and liking it less than the previous books.

message 219: by Tiffani (new)

Tiffani Day | 35 comments Finished Shadow sooner than expected it was by far the best in the series for me I just couldn't put it down. I am going to not so patiently wait for Moon the next release in the series.
I've decided to start the Caster series next I hope I enjoy it as much as everyone seems to be.
Lil question, I'm new here and don't quite follow some of the lingo what's arc and dnf?

I DNFed Shattered Dark, I was disapointed too. Lately, I can't keep reading a 3 star book or less. I just DNF.

Uh oh! I plan on reading The Shattered Dark (Shadow Reader, #2) by Sandy Williams in March. I'll work on lowering my expectations...

Hi Tiffani, welcome! An ARC is an advanced reader copy of a not-yet-published book. It is usually distributed either by the publisher, the author, or through websites like Netgalley and Edelweiss. People are often able to win them in contests.

DNF means "did not finish" reading.

message 223: by Tiffani (new)

Tiffani Day | 35 comments Thanks christal I know there's a few soon to be released copies I'd like to get my hands on and wow I see dnf a lot I've never started something and didn't finish no matter how bad I need an ending

message 224: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments I have too many books I want to read and too little reading time to stick with a book I don't like. :)

Exactly!

message 226: by Christal (new)

Christal | 374 comments I try to be like that but it is so hard for me to put a book down unfinished. I'm always thinking, "But what if it gets better?" Sadly, they usually don't.

message 227: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments No, lol. They don't! :D

Valerie ~ Val Hall ~ | 9662 comments Regina wrote: "I DNFed Shattered Dark, I was disapointed too. Lately, I can't keep reading a 3 star book or less. I just DNF."

Lol, I admit that I'm not a fast reader 'cause I always subvocalize when reading....but I did skim a bit. The last half of the book picks up a bit if you can suffer all the drama..

message 229: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments I heard that it picks up. ;) There was some stuff in the beginning that really irritated me.

That's true. It was a meh book until the last third.

message 231: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments Should I just pick up the last third?

But in truth, I wasn't captivated by the first. Me and UF haven't gotten along well this past year. I have enjoyed PNR more than UF -- which is crazy for me. My favorite authors (Ilona Andrews, Patricia Briggs, Jim Butcher) are not included in any problems I have had this past year -- I loved their books.

message 232: by AH (new)

AH | 2271 comments It's probably a case of it's not a book you'd enjoy, so move on and read something you'd like.

I agree. The end of this one really left some interesting options for the next book. Or, it could have been a good place to leave you finishing the story for yourself. It just had the final end feeling for me. I'm glad there is still time for what I want to happen - even though you are made to believe it wont. Hope that was vague enough. I wish they came out quicker!

Hi Ellese, not sure how you feel about audio books but I recently had some seriously unfun chores to do at home and treated myself to the beautiful creatures audiobook to keep me working. It was fantastic! I loved it so much I listened to the whole series. I didn't even know it was going to be a movie until just now. That was good timing.

I tend to be the same way, Christal. Curiosity killed the cat, I guess. Killed the time I could'a spent reading a better book, more like it. ;)

I am anxious to start Ever After, but things are too hectic right now. I want some uninterrupted time to read it. Maybe when we fly.

I listened to Beautiful Creatures while we were unpacking from a move a few years back and really enjoyed it. Made the chore feel less dreadful. Audiobooks are great for brightening up unfun chores. :)

I read a freebie Fury (Otherkin, #1) by Anya Bast and liked it okay. It was about a new cougar-shifter chosen to be Alpha Queen of a wolf pack. Cool idea mixed with a bunch of fated-to-be-mated sex.

I'm in the middle of Hunter's anthology book Have Stakes, Will Travel (Jane Yellowrock, #4.5) by Faith Hunter and really enjoying it. She writes good shorts. I'm anxious for book 6, Blood Trade, due out in April and this is a nice tide-me-over read.

message 238: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments I think I am going to start Fire Baptized (Habitat, #1) by Kenya Wright I have been wanting to read this for awhile.

message 239: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments I grabbed that one as an Amazon freebie last year, but haven't read it. The prequel Caged View: A Collection of Urban Fantasy Short Stories is available free @ Smashwords. You can grab that here: http://www.smashwords.com/books/view/..., if you haven't already. I'll be interested to hear how you like it.

message 240: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments Oh I have that! I wonder if I should read that first or if it is the type of prequel to read after you read the first one, you know what I mean? I have heard such good things about it.

message 241: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments I do know what ya mean, but I'm not sure which order they should be read. Sorry. Maybe the author's website has some details?

message 242: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments Haha, I am okay with jumping ahead and starting with 1.

message 243: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

message 244: by Josie (new)

Josie | 1967 comments I've just finished Lothaire (Immortals After Dark, #12) by Kresley Cole and loved it! Immortals After Dark has turned into my joint favourite PNR series. I'm going onto Shadow's Claim (The Dacians Realm of Blood and Mist, #1) by Kresley Cole next :D

message 245: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments We determined it best to read the IAD series before jumping into Shadow's Claim, yah Josie? Each time I see that books cover I wanna read it. LOL! I think I should probably wait though b/c I've only read 2 of the IAD books so far.

message 246: by Josie (new)

Josie | 1967 comments Yes! And I'm glad I did, they're all introduced in Lothaire and I'm thinking it'd be quite spoilery reading The Dacian's first.
I think you'd love them, Steph - they remind me of Psy-Changeling, the arc becomes more intriguing with every book. At first, I wasn't too fussed about the series (I didn't even particularly like The Warlord Wants Forever) but it really does hit it's stride. Highly recommended ;)

message 247: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments Cool! Thanks, I'll move them up closer to the top of Mt. TBR :D

Lis | 4037 comments Finished Ever After (The Hollows, #11) by Kim Harrison too this week & LOVED it!!! Think this is one of my favs of the series so far. I know this is a tough series to get into in the beginning, but if you can hang in there... It's a good one! It's also very good in audio.

Also read Beautiful Disaster (Beautiful, #1) by Jamie McGuire and freebies Cat's Meow (Predators, #1) by Nicole Austin and An On Dublin Street Christmas (On Dublin Street, #1.5) by Samantha Young

And my New Years healthy read Green Smoothie Revolution The Radical Leap Towards Natural Health by Victoria Boutenko for recipes.

How did you get On Dublin street for free?? Please let me know and the Cat's Meow is $5.00 for barely 100 pages of a book?

Now I liked Beautiful Disaster
