~♡♥ April ♥♡~ | 8 comments Hi all :D

How much reading time do you have a day?

While I have been off work for the Festive Holidays (I work in a school!) and due to the horrible weather which has kept us indoors, I have been reading a book a day while the children read their own books and play with their new games etc. When I return to work on Monday my reading time will be limited to an hour or two a night when the kids are in bed and after all the chores have been done.

So I was wondering how much time do you get/devote to your reading, especially the readers who have challenged themselves to read 200+ a year (an amazing number!!) Are you a quick reader or a slow one?

ɑƨħŵɑɡ ♥Team Magnus Damora FOREVER♥ (unheard) | 162 comments Hi April

I am a fast reader and I too have plenty of time to read on weekends and holidays.. I prefer just grabbing the book and reading for long long hours perhaps maybe a whole day .. but on days I go to college I try to read while on the bus or before I go to bed.. The finals days are the most challenging, I don't read much on those..

and I have a 200+ goal this year I hope to break :)

Kris | 9 comments I mostly read on my lunch break during the week and then on the weekend.

Wan (wanwaddell) | 2081 comments Not much at all, I only have time before bed(after putting my son to bed) and weekends. I do listen to audio book while driving though. That helps.

Susan (scoutmomskf) | 1843 comments I am a fast reader plus I am also retired. Since I only sleep about 6 hours a night I have LOTS of time to read. I can read 11 or more books in a week depending on the type of book. Category romances take less time to read than most historical romances for example.

message 6: by Gail (new)

Gail (thebookbabe) I'd say I'm an average reader, I can read a category romance (like a HQ Presents) a couple of hours. Funny, but when I have time off from work for whatever reason I don't read as much as I planned. I specifically go into work much earlier than I have to so I can fix myself a cup of coffee and read for about an hour or hour and a half. It's my favorite part of the day; the only long stretch of reading I make for myself. I listen to audio books in the car and probably average 2 a month. I had a 150-book challenge for 2012; only managed 133. Hope to do better this year. I think, for me, how much or fast I read depends on the book. I've slogged through some average small books, but I can almost read one of the BDB books in just a couple of reading sessions - if a book is awesome I will MAKE time.

LIZA (lizapotato) I go to school and work full time. So it's honestly about 10 mins a day. But then there are nights where I give up sleep just to finish an amazing book. :) Totally worth it.

Putri Wulandari | 26 comments I'm one of a fast reader. I work from 8 to 5 but I try to read in between when works is not really crazy. I also read when I commute from home to work or work to home. On weekdays, I try to finish 1 book (which only can happen if work is slow or I have to stay up until midnight). On weekend, if I don't go anywhere I can finish 2-3 books (depends on the pages).

I have 200 books goal this year. I really hope I can make it :).

message 9: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 1103 comments I generally read 200-250 a year.

How do I get so many in?

1: I'm a fairly fast reader. I don't speed-read but I naturally read at a quicker pace. I am not fond of door stopper books and tend to keep my reads under 400 pages.

2:Audiobooks. I listen to audiobooks a lot. I listen when I walk my dogs, when I cook and clean and when I'm in the car for more than a few minutes.

3: Reading and cooking are my main hobbies. I'm not a scrap booker or a gamer or anything time consuming like that.

4: I can read at work.

5: I'm a single mother but my kid is a teenager. So while I am home a lot, my kid does not require constant supervision and is at an age where she doesn't want to do a lot with Mom. I date often and go out with friends but don't have an SO that requires a lot of my time.

6: I bring my Kindle everywhere I go and read if I'm stuck waiting somewhere.

Desperado (lethallovely) | 822 comments I'm not particularly a fast reader but I do take time to read every day, even if it's only for 30 mins. I'm a full-time uni student & I have PT job, so I get most of my reading done during the weekends & school breaks. Like ɑƨħŵɑɡ, I rarely read AT ALL during Finals week and my reading usually diminishes during the first and last months of each term (I'm trying to read like crazy right now because the Spring term is getting ready to start!).

I'd say I average about 1 to 2 hours a day of reading during days when I have class and around 5-8 on the weekends. I'm with Gail: "If a book is awesome I will MAKE time." I could easily finish a 350+ page book in a day or two if I'm hooked on it, whereas books that don't hold my attention as much could take weeks to read.

Questian (sakurastrife) | 457 comments before, i would like have 3 to 4 hrs reading time, but now that i'm a mother of one 2 yr old son, only stolen mins during the day, the quality reading time that i have will only be during the night time...

~KarenH~ | 11353 comments I'm not a particularly fast reader, probably pretty average, and I generally read 200-250 books a year. I'm the full-time (24/7) caregiver for my elderly (86 years) mother, and her health issues fluctuate greatly. At times when she is doing well (like right now), I have plenty of free time and can get a lot of reading done, but when she has a bad stretch I might go several days without picking up my kindle at all. I do listen to audiobooks a lot, and that I can continue to do (at least some) even during the times that I'm not able to read much. Thank goodness more and more good authors are starting to show up on the audio shelves! :D

Anna Goerlitz Old thread, but I am new here, so hope it's ok, that I resurrect it ;-)

I am single and have no children. I work full time and have three dogs, that I train and compete, that does take up a lot of time, but I don't own a TV - so reading is my main form of entertainment and relaxation.

I also have almost 2 hours a day in the car - to and from work - and I listen to audiobooks in the car, so i get quite a lot of reading in every day :-)

message 14: by Shatan (new)

Shatan | 33 comments I read about 150 books a year. I read a lot during the day when I can and Sundays are designated read all-day day! I do listen to an equal amount of audiobooks.

I read at my daughters activities/lessons, when my husband drives or I listen to an audio book while I drive and even when I do household chores/cooking. I found it makes doing laundry enjoyable!

I just always think of a way to make time to read. It's a great addiction to have!

message 15: by Mai (new)

Mai | 362 comments I'm a quick reader - I picked up a really fast reading pace when I worked at a bookstore and had to read a lot for work. A book a day (or two) is very normal for me.

Now, in a different job, I spend about 3-4 hours on the train everyday - lots of reading time. I'm single without kids, so Sunday afternoons are all mine and I also don't own a TV, so I usually read in the evening as well.

message 16: by Groovy (new)

Groovy Lee I think I'm an average reader. A few days a week, a couple of hours a day, and I'm finished in about two weeks. That's average, right?

Now my daughter--good heavens! It seems to take her forever! She likes to dig deep, go back and reread parts. I mean seriously:)

message 17: by Erin (new)

Erin H I think I am a pretty fast reader. I try to read at least an hour a day before bed but with work I can't always accomplish that. I wished I liked listening to audiobooks because I could get so much more reading done at my job. I try to read a book in one sitting and if it's a bigger book than maybe 2 tops. I set my goal for 200 which may be a little steep even for me.

message 18: by Ari (new)

Ari (aristotlelovesbooks) I feel like the speed with which I read depends on the book. I'm fairly fast with a book that I enjoy and slightly average if I'm reading what feels like a bag of rocks. Regardless, I try to devote at least 2 hours per day to reading. However, Thursdays - Sundays I can splurge on 5-9 hours of reading if I care to take the time for myself.
