Christian Schoon | 4 comments Hi all. Newbie Christian here. Couple of picks: just finished Sweet Tooth by Ian McEwan; contemporary fiction, laced thru w/ espionage of the MI5 variety. Big, twisty ending you won't see coming. In young adult, The Book Thief is superb once you get used to Death as narrator (handled very adroitly, tho). Great group, by the by. Thanks!

It's a really great book! Just finished it! I read it relentlessly

message 61: by Val (new)

Val Life of Pie is a good book.
I just finished reading Zomblog (Zomblog, #1) by T.W. Brown which kept me at the edge of my seat. I also just finished revisiting The Call of the Wild by Jack London which I hadn't read in 20 years. It still is a great book.
I'm also reading a couple of history books, Rebels on the Range The Michigan Copper Miners' Strike of 1913-1914 by Arthur W. Thurner , a story of the 1913 copper mining strike in the Copper Country of Michigan and Interpreting Our Heritage by Freeman Tilden , a book written for Park Rangers which I am one of.
Today I am cracking Grassland The History, Biology, Politics and Promise of the American Prairie by Richard Manning and Hayduke Lives! by Edward Abbey !
I like a lot of variety.

message 62: by Keely (new)

Keely Currently I'm reading both City of Ashes(Mortal Instruments #2) and The Perks of being a Wallflower. I'm almost finished with both of them and they're both amazing!

message 63: by Lizzie (new)

Lizzie (lizziebeans) I can't read one book at a time. I don't think it's even remotely possible.

I'm listening to Tell the Wolves I'm Home in my car. It helps an hour long commute go by much more quickly.

I'm listening to The Battle for the Castle at night while I fall asleep.

I'm also reading Cold Comfort Farm and Rise of the Huntress.

message 68: by Alejandro (new)

Alejandro | 10 comments Currently i am reading Rick Moody's Demonology, to soon to tell how it will be, then will follow that with Moody's Garden state, and then Cecelia Ahern's P.S. I Love You, because i enjoyed the movie and that sort of book really dazzles the ladies. They always make the first move. I just finished reading McCarthy's The Road, which is haunting, Nick Hornby;s A Long way Down, which makes you laugh at things you shouldn't and Benjamin hoff's The Tao of Poo, which was meant to be because i found it at a bus stop, read it, felt enlightened and then the book disappeared, seriously i cant find it and i live in two room apt.

message 69: by Kristy (new)

Kristy (lilsis2307) | 43 comments I just finished Second Glance by Jodi Picoult (I recently got it from a co-worker) and I loved it. I highly recommend anything from Jodi Picoult. Her books have a way of making you think about topics you normally wouldn't in a way you never thought you would.

message 70: by Alejandra (new)

Hey Laura, I read Lolita and listened to the audio as well. The audio actually sounded a little creepy to me. It was definitely controversial when it first came out and is a story that is very memorable.

Sophie (warpedline) I am re-re-re-re-re-re-re-reading times a million the Virals series by Kathy Reichs. Def recommend it.

Also, for anyone who likes steampunk, I really recommend "Lady of Devices" - it was amazing, with a realistic and believable storyline and setting!

message 77: by Aleka (last edited Jan 20, 2013 08:30PM) (new)

Aleka (kalir) A Song of Two Worlds by Alan Lightman or Wall of Days by Alastair Bruce are both excellent reads in my opinion. As is GRRM.

Currently Reading: "Saving June" by Hannah Harrington. About 3/4 of the way through. It's soooo good! :D

message 79: by Natalie (new)

Natalie (littlenatalie) Just finished The Silver Linings Playbook & Delirium... "Silver Linings" was great, as was the movie which I saw the day after I finished the book! Delirium, I really liked until the last 2 pages, but I'm eager to finish the trilogy. Now reading Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert, which is very different, & almost more of a memoir... Loving Gilbert's sense of humor & her insights. Lots of great quotes from this book.

I am about halfway through the first one, I have to admit, this is my first true fantasy novel and I may be a convert. I am enjoying the book FAR more than i expected. I sat my but down for football yesterday and only looked up at chapter breaks. Glad to hear the next one is also worth a read.

message 84: by Dorottya (new)

Dorottya (dorottya_b) | 66 comments I'd really recommend Claire Morrall's The Man who Disappeared and Melissa Hill's Something from Tiffany's! I really enjoyed both books. The first is a really nice mystery book with lots of personal plots, and the second one is a chick lit book with an amazingly and shockingly clever structure!

message 85: by Athena (new)

Athena (athenavictoria) I'm currently reading The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern. I thought I wouldn't be fond of it, but I am pleasantly surprised!

message 86: by Avery (new)

Avery (ThePagemaster) (averythepagemaster) | 57 comments Im currently re-reading The Girl Who Played with Fire. I watched the first movie not too long ago and decided that I should read the series again. I never really got to reading the last book the first time I gave this trilogy a shot, so those are my main reasons why I am re-reading them.

message 87: by Emily (new)
