Rachael Vicary | 4 comments Just finished the mortal instrument series followed by the infernal devices. All 9 books within the week, I was up until 3am some nights. I loved them. Cassandra Clare is amazing

Kristie | 5928 comments Wow, Rachael! That's impressive.

message 2855: by Raquel (new)

Raquel Romero (raqueljeannie) | 2 comments I'm currently reading

Gone Girl - Gillian Flynn (I recommend so far)
Geek Love - Katherine Dunn
Lolita - Vladimir Nabokov (I recommend so far)
Sybil - Flora Rheta Schreiber
Today I'm Alice - Alice Jamieson

I know, it's a lot at once, but I get too impatient. Ever since I got back into reading after being such a huge reader my whole life, I've felt like I could never read enough lol. It's kinda ridiculous.

BUT I have read a lot of YA books and some other genres before kinda venturing out from being stuck to mostly YA and I have a list of the books I've read since 2008 & I'll recommend the ones I find the most interesting besides the obvious typical ones like the Twilight series :) --

White Oleander - Janet Fitch
Towel Head - Alicia Efrain
Identicle - Ellen Hopkins
Crank (series, all 3) - Ellen Hopkins
A Great & Terrible Beauty (series, all 3) - Libba Bray
Before I Die - Jenny Dovonoham
Thirteen Reasons Why - Jason Asher
Dead Until Dark (true blood series, all of them, I think there's 10) - Charlaine Harris
My Sister's keeper - Jodi Piccoult
The Time Traveler's Wife - Audrey Niffenger
Bufflehead Sisters - Patricia Delois
The Virgin Suicides - Jeffrey Eugenides
The Gunslinger (Dark Tower series, all of them) - Stephen King
The Adults - Alison Espach
Triangles - Ellen Hopkins
The Bell Jar - Sylvia Plath
Gone Girl - Gillian Flynn

I've mostly stuck to a couple specific genres that's why I'm starting to look around more for different books to start reading.
Excuse any misspelling of any names of a title or author.

Karen ⊰✿ | 3767 comments I just finished
Midnight Crossroad (Midnight, Texas, #1) by Charlaine Harris
on audio which I really enjoyed. I have seen some criticism of it being too slow, and I understand that point of view, as it is quite character driven and the pacing is suited to the setting. Manfred is back (for those that read the Harper Connelly books) and I liked the further exploration into his character, Actually, this book was much better than any of the Harper Connolly books in my opinion

Also reading
Papillon by Henri Charrière
which, although I know is a classic, I am finding a tough read. It is a 'memoir' really so the writing style is quite amateurish and it is a HUGE book which always tests my motivation ;)

message 2857: by Colette (new)

Colette I am currently reading A Game of Thrones. I like it a lot so far, but there are so many names it is hard to keep track of them all!

message 2858: by Harsha (new)

Harsha Varma (masternamer) Currently reading Mostly Harmless by Douglas Adams. Almost done with Slaughterhouse-Five by Kurt Vonnegut. Really nostalgic reading the last book of the hitchhiker's series..

A Dance with Dragons A Dance with Dragons (A Song of Ice and Fire, #5) by George R.R. Martin

message 2862: by Kim (new)

Kim Hathorn | 3 comments I'm finishing up Citadel by Kate Mosse. It's not an edge-of-your-seat thriller by any means, but still a page turner. There's a double time in Late Antiquity and World War II France involving a secret Codex and the efforts of both the Nazis and members of the French Resistance to find it.

message 2863: by Jackie (new)

Jackie | 8 comments I read that trilogy Kim. I thought it was quite good but all 3 books were a bit long.

Yeah, the tv series is really good. But it's definitely better to read the books first. The first three books are really amazing. Hope you have fun reading them:)

P.S: Watching 'The Wall' in all its glory, for the first time in the tv show is a great experience..

Avid Reader and Geek Girl (avidreaderandgeekgirl) | 1572 comments I would recommend Matched (Matched, #1) by Ally Condie , a great start to the trilogy. I am now reading A Game of Thrones (A Song of Ice and Fire, #1) by George R.R. Martin , and the other's I listed before.

Ash (morethanfairytales) | 115 comments I just started Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone for the second time. I never finished this series, and it's been at least five years since I picked any of them up, so I'm going to try to get through all seven before the end of the year. I love re-entering this world.

I loved Special Topics in Calamity Physics and although I think Night Film was clever, it wasn't quite as good for me. I'd be interested in your thoughts!

Jackie | 8 comments What's Summer House like Scott? I liked The Dinner by him, wondered if that one is worth reading too.

Bridget's Quiet Corner (chaptersandscreens) I am reading Pretty Little Liars (Pretty Little Liars, #1) by Sara Shepard ..The first book in the Pretty Little Liars series by Sara Shepard..I got hooked on the show, thinking I wouldn't when I first decided to at least attempt to watch it because people kept talking about it and I thought it would be some silly little show...Boy was I wrong! lol (Hey, I like it anyway!) :-)

message 2884: by Karen ⊰✿, Avaricious Reader (new)

Karen ⊰✿ | 3767 comments That is a beautiful book Stacy. I love her style of writing as it is so descriptive (but not unnecessarily so) and she keeps true to the time period perfectly. The storyline of the 1940s was my favourite, but I also wasn't disappointed when it all came together
