Annie Hawthorne (curiouswren) *pops in momentarily* Well, I just finished Personality Plus (that book is AMAZING!!!) and I am loving "Rilla of Ingleside" and "The Voyage of the Dawn Treader" all over again as well as steaming along like a miniature tug through "Little Dorrit". I enjoy it best when I read more than one book at a time so I think World War 1, fantasy, and Victorian is a capital variety. ^_^ *vanishes again with a flash of vivid blue light*

That's the spirit, Renna! You're gonna add several new things to your Outread Aubrey shelf this month, yes? :D

That is a wonderful thing to do. I hope you both enjoy it. You could also consider making recordings that he could listen to anytime. That'd be fun. :D (I actually have that book; picked it up at a library book sale because the cover was stunning and the author name was vaguely familiar. Let me know how it is!)

*laughs at Annie* You're being a good reader, I see. :D

*is going to format a collection of short stories this afternoon, which involves reading it*

Leah Good | 236 comments Batson's "The Door Within" trilogy is pretty good. Not the most impressive writing style ever, but the stories are great.

message 604: by [deleted user] (new)

I think that's the series Jonathan Garner just read... *looks around for Jonathan*

message 605: by Theodora (new)

Theodora R. R. (the_homesick_dreamer) | 122 comments Batson's books are ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. I love them; he's probably my favorite author, as well as Solomon's (Solomon is my friend).

And yes, I hope to add a few books to my shelf this month. I'll never catch up though. :P

message 606: by [deleted user] (new)

I thought that was the one, Jonathan. :)

Tsk. Stop worrying about catching up and just read, m'dear.

*is enjoying reading the short story collection she's formatting, and also has the latest volume of a manga on her Kindle* The Viz media app for digital manga is cool, from what I've explored so far. You can sample the first chapters of most of their mangas for free, so it's a good way to browse. Plus, Kindle Fire = pretty colors.

message 607: by Elisabeth (new)

Elisabeth I just finished Miss Buncle's Book, which was delightful! I find that lately I tend to take breaks of a few days where I just don't feel like reading, and then pick up a good book and swallow it in a day or two. :)

Next on my list, I think, is Rachel Field's All This, and Heaven Too.

message 608: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm getting into this sort of late, but I'm reading The Fellowship of the Ring for the first time. And The Phantom Menace novelization. And Doctor Who: Festival of Death. I'm busy. :)

message 609: by [deleted user] (new)

Reading is an excellent thing to be busy with, Jonathan. :D

Don't know if this bothers you, Corey, but I just figured I should warn you that "Nothing Lasts Forever" is filled with foul language. Don't know if that offends you or not, but I would want someone to warn me.

If you're at all interested, some great follow up books are
When God Writes Your Life Story, Radical, and Shadow of the Almighty. ;)

Renna wrote: "Well, I just finished reading "Do Hard Things" by the Harris twins. I enjoyed it a lot. ^_^"

That's a great book. You should read "Start Here" by the Harris brothers too. It's a really quick read and it's a great book

Theodora R. R. (the_homesick_dreamer) | 122 comments Jonathan: I just got that one from the library today. :)

Wow... :O I have a TON of stuff from the library today. I don't think I'll read all of this before it's due back...

message 619: by [deleted user] (new)

At least it's free to check out books from the library...

message 620: by [deleted user] (new)

lol I have 13 books out from the library and 4 dvds. (One of which is "Pixar Shorts: Vol. 1). :)

message 621: by [deleted user] (new)

Uh oh. You said that word. Nobody should say that "P" word around me. It's dangerous. ^_^

Same here. I had to go and check what the publication date was one book four.

message 630: by Annie (new)

Annie Hawthorne (curiouswren) Plant!!!!!!

message 631: by [deleted user] (new)

Look at me! I'm in the fridge talking to a rat! I'm insane, I'm insane, I'm insane!

message 632: by [deleted user] (new)

I know, right, Faith? :D I actually need to test-read book 4...

message 633: by Annie (new)

Annie Hawthorne (curiouswren) I wish I could speak whale!

message 634: by Katie (new)

Katie Daniels | 242 comments * the author of "the next book" sits and grins *

I read a book! I'm so proud of myself. Maybe I'll even manage to finish reading two books this month!

message 635: by [deleted user] (new)

What happens if you do read two books, Katie? More importantly, what happens if you don't? Need some motivation?

*finished the newest volume of her current favorite manga--since there is no more FMA--last night* I am now experiencing the woes of waiting for more volumes not only to be written, but also to be translated and released in America... *dramatic sigh*

message 636: by Katie (new)

Katie Daniels | 242 comments I have no idea, to all three questions. O.O

message 637: by [deleted user] (new)

The answer to the third question is yes. If you can't think of answers to the first two questions, I'll help while proving question #3.

message 638: by Katie (last edited May 13, 2013 05:39PM) (new)

Katie Daniels | 242 comments That sounds ominous... o.O

message 639: by [deleted user] (new)

It's supposed to be. Well, the answer to #2 is supposed to be.

message 640: by Kaleb (new)

Kaleb (httpwwwgoodreadscomvaron) | 97 comments I just finished "Merlin's Blade" by Robert Treskillard (Not sure how to spell it.) and loved it. It was the most grounded and enthralling fantasy novel I'd read in a long time.

message 641: by [deleted user] (new)

Woot! *needs to buy that*

message 642: by Faith (new)

Faith (faithblum) | 173 comments Aubrey wrote: "Woot! *needs to buy that*"

Yes, you do! It's great! (And that is coming from someone who doesn't usually read fantasy. :P)

message 643: by [deleted user] (new)

Oooh... o.O Why doesn't Faith read fantasy?

message 644: by Faith (new)

Faith (faithblum) | 173 comments I don't usually like fantasy books because of the magic in them. And I never know what authors I can trust to be Godly about what magic is in them. So, I stick with C.S. Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkien, and HW authors who write fantasy. :D

Read any Stephen Lawhead? He's usually more sci-fi than fantasy but he writes good books with wonderfully subtle Christian undertones. (I was brought up reading this stuff.) I particularly like Empyrion, which is two books. They're sci-fi, I guess, so it's a bit different. But he's written some Arthurian stuff that could be called fantasy.
___

Also, hi, I'm back! After a super long absence because Goodreads made me feel guilty that I wasn't reading anything! I'm currently rereading The Fellowship of the Ring for the first time in eight years, and rereading the books I'm taking an exam on this Friday (Brighton Rock and A Clockwork Orange).

message 646: by [deleted user] (new)

Be careful. Stephen Lawhead has written some great stuff, such as "The Hall of the Dragon King" series. But I wouldn't suggest reading the Song of Albion series. I bought it about a month ago and there was a lot of bad language.

message 647: by Elisabeth (new)

Elisabeth I just finished up All This, and Heaven Too, a fine historical novel. Oh, and I forgot—I read Supervillain of the Day last week! Next I'm going to sample a new—well, technically old, but new-to-me—Western author, Eugene Manlove Rhodes, whose books I've been wanting to try for a while; I've got his Copper Streak Trail on my Kindle. Also going to read A Guide to Elegance, a little book on how to dress well by a French fashion expert of years ago.

message 648: by Katie (new)

Katie Daniels | 242 comments I'm torn between wanting Merlin's Blade, and desperately avoiding it. Because I'm exceedingly picky about my Arthurian adaptions, and I'm afraid Treskillard's interpretation isn't going to be to my liking, and I'd rather remain ignorant if that's the case... o.O

message 649: by Hannah (new)

Hannah (bookwormhannah) | 215 comments Hi, everyone...I've been dealing with some internet issues and have had very little time while in Texas to access internet. But I got to go to Half Price Books and hit a motherload! I had a 15% off coupon and still spent about $150 for an entire box of books. I can hardly wait to read them! (Most of them were hardbacks for $5 and $7.50) Some of them I've been looking for for years, and some are authors I've discovered more recently, like B.M.Bower, whose writing was recommended to me by Elisabeth Foley.
I have Katie's book on my list for reading next. :) There are five or six books that I did get read which I need to add on here, so I'm still okay on my yearly goal, though I'm behind where I wanted to be.

message 650: by [deleted user] (new)

Yay, Miriam! Good work. :D I need to, erm, finish reading LotR...

*has a Stephen Lawhead book she should finish*

Wow, Elisabeth is out to make us all feel guilty. o.O ;) Keep it up, dear!

Risk it because he's a HW author, Katie.
