Ralph (rlparker) Okay, I was going to start adding books I've read. At least initially, I'm only going to add ones I've read since I got my Kindle. But I ran into a problem--when the site asks me to pick the edition I read, I can't find anything like "electronic" or "Kindle" or...?

Several of the books I've read I downloaded from the MR site. I created a new edition for "D'Artagnan Romances, Vol. 2: Twenty Years After". But then next I was going to enter "Angels and Demons", and I really didn't want to pick a pBook edition....

Does it matter? What do you pick?

Jessica I don't select any particular edition. But if you want to do that, you can add the ebook edition manually to goodreads.

Ok, thanks. I thought you had to pick an edition. Maybe I'll add the ebook so it'll be there for others in the same quandary.

Justy (justy1) | 18 comments my collection is moving to ebooks, so I may also have some books in both paper and electronic versions. I have just picked the 'generic' or 'close enough' in LibraryThing and then put in a tag for eBook. In Goodreads I'll do the same and add all my eBooks to the "ebook" bookshelf. I also have an "audiobook" bookshelf as all the audio editions refer to CDs and Cassettes rather than the Audible.com editions I own.

Arthur (astra) Probably half of the books I read are not available in ebook format.

Justy (justy1) | 18 comments I have to admit that while I have a *Huge* paper book collection, most of it is in boxes in storage. We just don't have the space to have it all on display. Ever since I started reading eBooks on my iPaq I've been actively looking for books that are available in digital format. Since most of what I read is popular fiction and classics I have always found something that I want to read.
While I was reading on my iPaq I would still read about 10 pBooks a year. Since I got my Cybook in Dec 2007 I've been hard pressed to read the few pBooks which were/are still in my "to read" pile.

Kevin Jones (kwjones) | 3 comments Most of my pbooks aren't availalbe in ebook yet, so I'll hang onto them until they are.

Elizabeth (elizabethcord) | 1 comments I do most of my reading on Kindle, only using paper/hardbacks when I can't get the ebook.

However, I pick the edition to display in My Books that has the best cover art, even if it's an audio book!

JSWolf | 19 comments All I've been doing recently is picking the edition with the most comments.

JSWolf | 19 comments I've just added the eBook edition of our Book Club book...

message 11: by Liz (new)

Liz (busy91) sometimes if you type the title and put the word Kindle after it, it does find it...usually. Otherwise you can add it yourself, or just use any edition. But so far, every Kindle edition I have documented I have found on here.

message 12: by Justy (new)

Justy (justy1) | 18 comments Kindle editions get loaded automatically by Amazon, other eBook editions have to be added manually and then a Goodreads librarian should combine it with the other editions. I know there are at least 2 Goodreads librarians in our group who can do the combining. :)

message 13: by Jessica (new)

Jessica Meeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!

And Justy of course :p

I'm trying to add them as I read them. Otherwise I think I'll be in a world of hurt (but a librarian with a serious amount of edits). And since we're on the topic, if you guys see anything goofy on goodreads, post it here and either Justy or myself will fix it up.

It is good to know that great support is so close.

Now if there was just some way to unify the ratings of the books so the compare function would match your e-version to my paperback and the hardcover would not be a full star higher ranked than the 2nd paperback version.

message 15: by Jessica (new)

Jessica If the versions (ebook, paperback, etc) are combined, it combines all of the ratings. If you link the one you're talking about I'll combine it for you.

message 16: by Justy (new)

Justy (justy1) | 18 comments Just give us the title and author, Jessica or I will combine them for you. :)
I've already linked the eBook versions of the March and April bookclub choices to the paper versions.

message 17: by JSWolf (new)

JSWolf | 19 comments Can you have a look at my library and any eBooks not linked please link? Thanks!

message 18: by JSWolf (new)

JSWolf | 19 comments Can we swap the edition listed here for http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/63... which is the eBook edition that needs to be combined?

message 19: by Jessica (new)

Jessica JSWolf - There's a mutliformat ebook edition already for Neptune's Crossing. I combined it, but it might get deleted. I'm not sure what you're asking in your comment though. I'll go through your books and combine.

message 20: by Justy (new)

Justy (justy1) | 18 comments JSWolf: I have merged the 2 eBook editions of Neptune's Crossing so that all your entry information is included, but the 'multiformat eBook' indicator is still in place as this is what was agreed to in the "GoodReads Librarian' group discussions.
I have also added eBook editions for the rest of the series and combined them with the other editions so that they are easy to find.

message 21: by Connie (new)

Connie Justy or Jessica - Would you please combine the Kindle edition with the other editions of Eventide by Kent Haruf? Thank you!

message 22: by Jessica (new)

Jessica Got it, Connie :)

message 23: by Connie (new)

Connie Thank you!

JSWolf | 19 comments I've just added two more eBooks that need combining please.

Can the librarians here check my library whenever I add new eBooks and combine them? Chances are that they won't be in editions on GoodReads and will need combining. Thanls!

message 25: by Justy (new)

Justy (justy1) | 18 comments I've just combined your 2 new eBooks. I will try to keep an eye out for the new book updates from you so that you don't have to keep posting here.

I don't really pay attention to what editions my friends are reading, and I figure they're probably not checking out my edition. I just pick the first edition I come to. When updating my status, I do it by percentage instead of page. So if I'm on page 100 of 200, I'll update that I'm 50% through. It takes about 30 seconds longer to do the division and update it. Meh!

message 27: by Elsi (new)

Elsi | 4 comments I haven't worried about picking a Kindle edition -- just like I don't go out of my way to pick the audio version if I listen to a book on CDs. I do have extra "shelves" to tag just the eBooks or just the audio books.

message 28: by JSWolf (new)

JSWolf | 19 comments I do want the proper version listed if at all possible. So I will go to the trouble of adding one if need be.
