I write and read, then read and read some more.
My literary lovers are: Will Self, Lucy Ellmann, Gilbert Sorrentino, Martin Amis, JG Ballard, Fyodor Dostoevsky, Kurt Vonnegut and some others.
Hi Mark! Welcome!
glad you decided to join us. i'm hoping you will proselytize for your favourites -- i added a lucy ellman and a sorrentino to my to-read list, but i'm not sure if i picked good starter volumes. what would you read first?

. . . ahoy, new folks! . . .lordy, i should probably introduce myself, i've been so absent recently . . . but i'll find myself a little less time-crunched the next couple months, so hopefully i'll be seeing more of all of you . ..

By the way if you ever want to take a look at the primary novel being discussed, The Red Album of Asbury Park Remixed, the free PDF is http://www.willcall.org/web/redalbum.pdf

I'm Tracy and I was in the original Fiction Files group ages and ages ago, I loved it. Found so many great writers thanks to all of you. I've missed you all terribly so I am glad to be back in the fold. I have three dogs and two careers and a long time addiction to words. I love Jane Austen and Hemmingway (no they are not mutually exclusive!) JRR Tolkin, Phillip K. Dick and so many many more that I won't even get started. I discovered I CLaudius and All About Lulu in the group and if you haven't read them... you should! Maybe one day I will make it to a Dork... Otherwise I may have to travel the world and sleep on everybody's couch at least once.
welcome elizabeth... glad the field isn't empty anymore. infinite jest has been read by a few here, and they liked it (well, i'm not sure how much ben liked it)... my copy is currently a bookend holding up smaller books. i love it. i'll actually read it one day.
Welcome Elizabeth! All About Lulu is wonderful and I'm not saying that just because Jonathan is our friend.

Tom wrote: "Tom here..." Hello Tom. I am too new to be welcoming anyone to this group, but I wanted to say that I am also a Blade Runner fan. Revisited it yesterday, so I thought your post was kind of coincidental.

Hey there nice to meet ya.
I've been reading Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep. There must be something in the water...
Welcome!
Welcome!

Tom, good to see you here! I don't know why, but something in me gets incredibly interested in a project described as a cross between Blade Runner and Lolita.

. . .hey, hanson, great to see you here! . . . tom's memoir is badass, in case anyone is wondering . . .

Since many of you are about to gather in Roselyn, I feel compelled to introduce myself, since I am rather near. I'm a long time lurker who reads a lot more than he posts here, but I haven't yet allowed myself to introduce myself. So here goes.
I am live in Seattle where I came to do graduate study in English, but I pretty much permanently ABD. The education was good and I am thankful for my last year in the program because I finally read Gravity's Rainbow (which I still don't understand) and You Bright and Risen Angels (which is a favorite). I have written small pieces and aim to do something longer, but that still at ToDo.
I read all manner of things, usually juggling two, three or more books at a time. Not everything gets completed and often what does is scifi, mystery and the lastest account of political skullduggery. I have thought Goodreads and this forum might make me more directed. But whether it does, I've been heartened by the thoughtfulness and range of fiction files and am looking forward to fostering it.
oh and patty gates introduced me to FF - thanks!
hi robert!
i love the word skullduggery (apparently it is spelled with one "l" in britain and canada because my spell-check is angrily underlining it)! any friend of patty's is a friend of mine... looking forward to meeting you! :)

Thx Aaron. I've out the new novel on hold to edit the last one, but I will get to it again someday...

Jon suggested that this group was a good place to talk about about fiction.
I live in Minneapolis with my wife, 2 kids and 2 dogs, I like playing a game called SF0.org -- I work for the University of Minnesota and have a consulting business called vgalt. I also like green beans and strong coffee.
. . .hooray, welcome brock! you're going to love the people you meet in here-- they are family . . .
. . .brock and i have a history that goes back 23 years . . . we were hopelessly young alcoholic misfits together in san francisco . . . reconnected with brock in minnesota this weekend, and we hit three bookstores together and talked about books for hours, so i know he'll be right at home . . .

And thank you for the warm welcome Brian! Likewise.
