Chapter 16

At Mrs. Philips' party, Mr. Wickham tells Elizabeth about his story with Darcy. In his story, Darcy went against the wishes of his father and failed to give Wickham his "inheritance". What do you feel that you would have done if you were in Darcy's situation?

Wickham actually refused the "inheritance" and asked for money instead. The older Mr. Darcy wanted him to have a living in the church, but Wickham refused. Darcy was a gentleman and gave him what he wanted, hoping he would leave forever.
If I were Darcy, I would have kicked Wickham out on his fancy coattails with nothing. Wickham is lucky I wasn't Darcy.
