Yeah the question is there Ctgt along with the answer...but it is also in one episode of the series that's where the question came from for the movie.

That was Douglass Fairbanks Sr. in "The Thief of Bagdad." (1924) Senior later went on to be a famous Zoro too.

She Wore a Yellow Ribbon was a wonderful western (one of my favorites) right there with "Tuesday's Last Stand" staring!.... Henry Fonda and...?

I read the "Quiet Man" first. It was years before I watched the Duke in it & was surprised by how well it came out since he is nothing like the character in the story.

Sorry, I must not have been getting my updates for a while. Victor McLaglen and John Wayne were very tight and did a lot of films together.

Douglas Fairbanks did a ton of movie...he was well known as a "swashbuckler" he did one of the first Zorro movies.

Just noticed this thread. Wish I'd been in on it from the start. A-i-i-ght, I'm sure I can lay down some challenges. [Although I have no edge whatsoever, if the question relates to a recent-release or recent-era title; nor can I pose any puzzlers relating to this era's flicks].

First: this well-known American actor--in one mid-70s thriller--plays a villain sporting a facial scar and an eyepatch. In another film seven years earlier, he is a villain who goes up against a hero who wears an eyepatch. Name the actor, his co-star, both films, the release years, and the roles.

My second:

What nifty little early 1970s suspense film was it where the entire cast received Oscar nominations?

What mystery film is it where actor Michael Caine kisses a male actor on the lips.

Two of the biggest bestsellers in the spy/thriller genre were made into well-received, critically-acclaimed adaptations. One book was by John LeCarre and the other was by Frederick Forsyth. Well....give me time. I've been wracking my brain over the 4th. I kept thinking it had to be Michael Caine, but I can't think of a John LeCarre movie he was in (I think I'm confusing Len Deighton). Pierce Brosnan was in The Tailor of Panama and The Fourth Protocol. Are those the two you were thinking of?

Question 2...is that Death Trap? I read the they said the kiss cost the movie 10 million in ticket sales.

Since Question #5 is the toughest of the lot, I will give some additional clues:

~the director of the film was himself a famous German actor, helming the film in a rare turn as director (mirroring Ritt's unique appearance as a character)

~all three of Ritt's co-stars went on to become among the biggest box-office drawing stars of the 70s

~the villain of the movie, starred as 1/3 heroes in the very biggest 70s blockbuster of all, just the very next year

~the femme-fatale was a former french model

~the villain and the femme-fatale would be paired together as 2/3 of a protagonist trio three years after that, in another 70s blockbuster

p.s. I haven't looked over the earlier pages of the thread. I saw that someone had asked/answered a question about 'Mad Max' so I figured there were some classics-minded peeps playing. But maybe I'm wrong? Could be its mostly a post-'Terminator', post-'DieHard' type crowd here? Will look again.

Okay, I'm reassured. My questions are not too obscure or remote. p.s. I knew the answers for the Gregory Peck, Henry Fonda, and John Ford questions. But I didn't know Bruce Willis' wife's name in 'Die-Hard', nor the Robin Hood question.

'Saturn3' I certainly recall, but definitely not the dog's name. What's memorable about that flick is the robot and Harvey Kietel in the supporting cast. So strange to see Kirk D. in a SF film. No nudity for Farrah, bummer.

I can tell you that Michael Caine was the hero in all the Len Deighton movies of that era. He was not in any LeCarre flick. So cast him out of Question #4.

Yeah...he was just stuck in my head. If I had an inkling I'd check it on line, but I'm blank. Like the only 1970s eye patch villain I can recall is Adolfo Celi ar Largo, but I don't recall him playing a scar-faced villain. I can recall a few Martin Ritt films, but not one where he was a star...

So, drawing a blank. You'll probably have to knock off a couple of points (ever listen to "Says You"?) and add some clues.

Question #2 clue: the film only had two actors. They were both nominated for Best Actor. Pretty rare huh?

Well...in '76 Rocky stars Talia Shire and Sylvester Stallone got nominated, but i had to cheat and check it out. Is that it. I can't come up with another...doesn't mean it's not out there of course, LOL.

Ok, the most famous western star with a patch has to be John Wayne in True Grit....and that's all I've got :) I'm sure Mike can figure out the rest!

Win win, Mike and Lisa. 'True Grit' has Rooster Cogburn/John Wayne (eyepatch #1) chasing Lucky Ned Pepper (Robert Duvall). Seven years later, Robert Duvall wears an eyepatch (#2) when he plays Colonel Radl in 'The Eagle Has Landed'.

For the question about Martin Ritt. Here's how you solve it.

Name the biggest blockbuster of the 70s which was not named 'Star Wars'.

One of the three male heroes in this film --the only one who dies--stars in a very similar blockbuster three years later.

In that film, he also has two co-stars, (one of them a hot french babe). Well--they both co-starred in the Martin Ritt European film, from the same year as the *first* blockbuster mentioned above!

I realize this is an obscure title so if you even get warm I will clue you in.
