Feliks (dzerzhinsky) 'Andromeda Strain' is correct! I goofed and gave the book release date (1969). Haste makes waste.

One of my favorite movies...as opposed to the HORRIBLE attempt at a "remake" later.

Feliks (dzerzhinsky) Ye have good taste. I found both book and film, chilling.

I'm generally not a fan of remakes, re-boots, sequels, franchises, or any kind of re-tries. All these milk-the-cow-twice trends are doomed, to my way of thinking. Speaking just-for-me-personally I can only count maybe five sequels which ever 'worked' for me:

Rocky II
Star Trek II
French Connection II
Godfather II
...is there another? Can't recall

'American Graffitti II' was mildly interesting. But I didn't enjoy a lot of II's which other folks rave about: 'Superman II', 'Alien II', 'Terminator II', 'Mad Max II'..even 'Empire Strikes Back' seemed lame. It's futile asking me whether I enjoyed things like 'Raiders of the Lost Ark II' or 'Batman II' because when it comes right down to it, I dislike those entire franchises. Over time, the bare handful of titles above are really the only ones which impressed me.

Aliens (Alien II) is (in my opinion of course) better than the original.

Celi was a very nasty Italian officer in 'Von Ryan's Express'. Or am I wrong???

Feliks (dzerzhinsky) Yes. The commandant, I believe.

Feliks (dzerzhinsky) Alright I'm a regular guy. I won't hold out on ya.

Answer to #2: the 1972 movie 'Sleuth' starring Michael Caine and Lawrence Olivier. Both actors nominated for best actor. No one else in the cast, they played all parts.

Feliks (dzerzhinsky) Answer to #5

In 1975, director Martin Ritt took on an acting assignment with co-star Jon Voight in a European mystery/thriller called 'End of the Game'. Directed by actor Maximillian Schell.

The villain in the story: Robert Shaw. Femme fatale: Jacqueline Bissett.

That same year, 'Jaws' was released starring Shaw as Quint; and three years later 'The Deep' reunited Bissett and Shaw.

The plots parallel each other: Martin Ritt's detective character pursues the shadowy Shaw for twenty years ...for a wartime murder he can't pin on him. The wealthy character played by Shaw winds up being too powerful. In 'Jaws' of course, Quint pursues a demon of his own for decades after his WWII ship-sinking and in the end, succumbs to his enemy.

Sorry to make you guys n gals sweat that one out.

I'd have had to resort to internet searches...

Feliks (dzerzhinsky) Question #6 and #7 still unsolved, Paladin!

message 111: by Feliks (new)

Feliks (dzerzhinsky) And here's a new one for you

John Carpenter's super-violent 'Assault on Precinct 13' (1976) was a story based on what 1950s William Holden western?

Bonus: name two submarine movies with the word 'Assault' leading off the title.

Feliks (dzerzhinsky) You make the call: Clint Eastwood tangles with biker gangs in how many of his movies?

I can name at least 5.

message 113: by Feliks (last edited Jun 29, 2015 11:11PM) (new)

Feliks (dzerzhinsky) Tony Curtis starred in a fun biographical movie about this real-life figure who was actually..a close friend of actor Steve McQueen.

Provide any part of the answer.

Tip: no the answer is not 'Albert DeSalvo'.

Feliks (dzerzhinsky) Tony Curtis? I believe that's a wonderful Cary Grant film, unless Tony was involved in a remake?

Feliks (dzerzhinsky) Paladin! Have you seen the Walter Matthau trivia quiz I posted in my other group?

Care to try your hand?

Man I'm craving some challenge lately. Feelin' a little restless. I can't find hardly any decent trivia challenges on Goodreads--I have a good memory for any book I've ever read so there's not much to do. Sigh.

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 2933 comments Mod
I'm not as into the quiz thing as you apparently, LOL. I'm more of an incidental quiz guy...mind's a junk yard so sometimes things stick.

I'll have a look.

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 2933 comments Mod
Well, since I assume McQeen didn't know Harry Houdini...let's see...

Curtis played Ira Hayes in The Outsider. He was also in The Great Imposter (I watched that one several times) the guy's name was Demara.

Either one of those?

message 119: by Feliks (new)

Feliks (dzerzhinsky) Bingo! Good work Mike.

Yes, amazingly, Ferdinand Demara was a close friend of McQueens, even delivering the last rites to him on his deathbed. A bizarre anecdote I learned recently.

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 2933 comments Mod
...I know Demara pretended to be a couple of kinds of Monk and was a counselor later but I had no idea he gave the Last rights to anyone. Had he actually gotten ordained?

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 2933 comments Mod
The other question...Escape From Fort Bravo? Holden did a limited number of westerns.

message 122: by Feliks (last edited Jul 01, 2015 02:51PM) (new)

Feliks (dzerzhinsky) Yes! You're on a roll now, bucko!

Depends on how my brain is working...I didn't think it could be The Horse Soldiers.
