~Jennifer~ (book_addiction) | 929 comments Seduction and Snacks (Chocolate Lovers, #1) by Tara Sivec ~ Add it to your TBRs for when you need a great laugh. :) Loved it! It's very rare when a book makes me laugh hard enough I cry. It was great.

message 58: by Vicky (new)

Vicky (librovert) I recently finished Drums of Autumn (Outlander, #4) by Diana Gabaldon , another solid book in the Outlander series and The Edge of the World (Terra Incognita, #1) by Kevin J. Anderson , which started off with some really interesting ideas but didn't really do it for me. :(

Now I'm working on The World Without Us by Alan Weisman and Naked in Death (In Death, #1) by J.D. Robb .

I'm also chomping at the bit to move on to The Fiery Cross (Outlander, #5) by Diana Gabaldon but I'm trying to hold off since I've already read 4 of the books in a month and I know I'll hate myself if I finish them all way before the new one comes out. :P

message 66: by Sam (new)

Sam (theliteraryhooker) I'm reading At Home: A Short History of Private Life by Bill Bryson slowly but surely, and I started The End of the Affair by Graham Greene a couple days ago. So far I'm really enjoying both! :) I'm probably going to start Faefever soon too. I'm completely addicted to the Fever series, so I'm having to force myself to read other books in between so I don't devour the whole series in a week!

message 68: by Sam (new)

Sam (theliteraryhooker) There are a few people ahead of me for the fourth book at the library, so I just don't want to spend two months between books 3 and 4 waiting for my next fix LOL

message 69: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) | 7439 comments I recommend getting 3-5 at the same time! Especially 4 and 5 or you'll lose your ever loving mind waiting lol.

message 70: by Sam (new)

Sam (theliteraryhooker) If I'm being perfectly honest with myself, I'm going to be near a bookstore tomorrow so there's a pretty good chance that I'll just end up buying the whole series so I don't have to wait for the library.

I think you've created a monster, Jenne :P

Sam, I've been meaning to read At Home for a long time. Have you read anything else by Bryson? I've read most of his travelogues (especially loved A Walk in the Woods and In A Sunburned Country) and A Short History of Everything and just LOVE his style, so I was curious how you thought At Home compares to his previous works, that is, if you're familiar with them.

Rachael C. (norcalbibliophile) | 56 comments Finally got around to reading Evernight (Evernight, #1) by Claudia Gray . And now I'm thinking - why the Hell did I delay? I was seriously missing out! I love the creepy gothic old boarding school setting, and I love the way there is all this mystery building up to revealing the story's secrets. I love and totally identify with the main character, too, which of course always helps.

Anyone have any thoughts in whether it's worth sticking with the whole series or is this one of those with a great first book to kick things off, but a repetitive (or worse, yet, pointless) succession of books come after it?

message 85: by Theo (new)

Theo | 1929 comments Reading Pompeii and Winnie-the-Pooh.

message 86: by ~Jennifer~ (new)

~Jennifer~ (book_addiction) | 929 comments Ugh. I'm in a book funk. I can't find what I'm looking for and it's driving me mad. Is it too much to ask for a book I haven't read that will suck me in and let my brain relax??

message 87: by Ana (new)

Ana I'm reading Twenties Girl by Sophie Kinsella right now, and I'm around 70% into it. It's funny how I really disliked the beginning, but I'm glad I kept on reading. I really like it, though my fav by Kinsella would be "I've got your number" and "Remember Me".

I'm trying to get through Reached (Matched, #3) by Ally Condie which is slow going and starting Complete Novels and Stories At Fault / Bayou Folk / A Night in Acadie / The Awakening / Uncollected Stories (Library of America #136) by Kate Chopin on my TBR list forever. I really loved Matched, but had to slog through Crossed, and while I want to know where the series goes, part of me is dreading getting through this last one.

Ananda, that's interesting to hear you say that you didn't like it at first but do now. I have read and loved every single one of Sohpie's books except Twenties Girl. I have tried reading it twice, but have not gotten past the first 50 pages or so. How far in do I need to read until it gets better?

Hey Rachel, I've read all of Sophie's books, except minishopaholic which I plan on reading next week and I liked them all, especially her standalones, I liked them more than the Shopaholic series (the 5 of them which I've read). This one, Twenties Girl, was sooooooooo boring at the beginning, actually 30% of it to be more precise. I hated Sadie (the ghost), seems all she could do is whine..I really HATED her. But after those 30% of the book, things started happening, I saw a different Sadie and the book was really fun! I ended up rating it 4 stars. Maybe if you could try again, you will like it, who knows. but I'm gonna be honest, out of all books by kinsella I've read, this one was the hardest to get into. But once I did get into it, I started enjoying it. If you do give it another shot, do let me know what you think of it:)

Book Concierge (tessabookconcierge) | 2457 comments Finished the audio of Pearl S Buck’s The Good Earth (performed by Anthony Heald) – 5*****
This is an epic tale of the peasant farmer Wang Lung and his family. Buck writes in a very simple style, with few complex sentences, and only enough description to set the scene. The result is a story that the reader experiences along with the characters, whose many facets are revealed through their thoughts and actions over the years.

I do the same thing. I have so many going at once it's a wonder I can keep them all straight. A book has to really suck me in for me to commit to sitting and reading it uninterrupted. Otherwise, I mix it up based on mood.
