Ions on my 4th listen I noticed something about the sad story of Jax that is told around the camp fire.

the description of the folding house reminds me of the fae realm (where time is what you make it.)
this is a rash idea that dawned on me, and I wanted to see what you folk think.
is this story an analogy of the separation of the physical world with the fae realm?
I feel this is a rough description of how the shapers divided the worlds. I haven't gotten to the other story of Jax stealing the moon, for comparison, but I'm curious what you lot think of this.

Ions you believe the folding house is related to the fae as well?

Yah. "The Boy Who Loved the Moon," has a lot of resonance with Felurian's account. And the folding house has a lot of parallels with Faen: unfamiliar stars, seasons and time of day depending on which direction you look, entrances and egresses unable to be made fast.

What's more, Pat noted in a blog last year that it was literally the campfire version of an older story. He talked about trying to develop a graphic novel version or the "real story," but nothing's come of it yet.

Ions I feel bad that I only now connected the house to the fae, lol. I thought it sounded weird and cool, but I didn't have that realization.

cool!

Oh, no. There's a fella I know that often reminds me that this stuff isn't obvious, no matter what anyone says. And if you're listening to it there's a whole different complex of mental recognition at work.

Every few weeks someone pulls out something unfamiliar or looks at it in a new way.

Karen | 53 comments So I took a quick look around on these forums to see if someone had mentioned this, but couldn't find anything, so here goes. (Although I'm sure it's been discussed ad nauseum somewhere!)

The old man in the story of Jax, who is a listener, does he end up keeping the tinker's packs after Jax goes on to unfold the house? I believe there is only a reference to the folding house, flute, and iron box after their encounter. The significance of this is that if a listener has the tinker's pack, he could trade with people knowing exactly what it was they needed. Maybe it's an allegory that tinkers are listeners. Kvothe himself has run across a tinker who wanted to trade him something that he realized later was something he needed. Rope, I think, right before he goes to hunt the bandits.

Is this just commonly assumed already? Am I way off?

I'm not sure if he keeps them or not, I only remember what you referenced him keeping. But that doesn't necessarily mean anything.
Though I like the idea that you came up with, never really considered that. I assumed the Listener he met was actually Ctheah before he was locked away in the Fae.

SO I would say, it's not commonly assumed from what I have read on the subject. I have read a lot of people assumed that this Listener was actually Teccam. (Which I have no clue why, never saw the connection myself)

Karen | 53 comments Ive heard that one too. Maybe Teccam is the first tinker?

I have no idea, I've only noticed a couple of Teccam references, probably why I never saw the connection. Or maybe some people just needed something to latch onto and Teccam seemed like a good answer because everything about him is so vague.

I consider it the dominant theory on the subject though since I've seen it just about everywhere. Don't write it off because I dont get it, to say the least.
