I just finished The Manchurian Candidate. I had never seen the movie (whatever version). All I had to go on was 'it's something to do with brainwashing'. I'm really glad that's all I knew. The twists in this book managed to shock me. The main characters and their relationships were tragic with how twisted they were and why. The story picked up speed as it went and I could barely put it down when everything started coming together. I really, really loved this book.
One complaint: the descriptions could get irritating. Condon would give a description and then spend a couple of paragraphs expounding on that description. I got used to it but it was distracting when I first started the book.

I highly recommend the original version of the movie, with Frank Sinatra and Angela Lansbury. The Denzel Washington remake is okay, but loses some of the shock of the original film.

Thanks for the recommendation. I'll definitely check that one out first. I've seen both movie trailers and the tones are so far apart.
I've finished two more books. Neither of them was the book I was planning to read, of course.

This was a two-part story about SG1 crossing lines and breaking trust in order to stick to their code of nobody getting left behind. This was my favorite of the SG1 tie-ins. Everyone was in character and the story was one I could easily see playing out in one of SG1's best episodes. 5/5
