I think poetry should have its own folder, since poetic structure is an intense study and the topics need to be differentiated. I thought I could put a folder inside the literature folder, but GR does not allow me to do that.

Welcome! And don't worry, you've already brought a smackable nose to the group. What else could a group want? ;)

Well there are some very notable French linguists so that should definitely be interesting!

Oh, I want to study Latin too! We can plan it out together!

p.s. Latin is very cool.
I'm so glad there's a forum dedicated to linguistics. It's exactly what I've been wanting to do, along with a study in semiotics. They're closely related.
Well I've been studying linguistics for uni and spenke's recent researches into the topic inspired me to seek out the knowledge of others. I've found I've learned a good deal from uni lecturers but I can always learn more from books and further reading.
I'm going to start a semiotics section since linguistics and semiotics are related. I love the visual interaction with words, and symbology of language.

No. I'll leave the ancient stuff to you guys. I'm looking to the future!

So is mine. (I may not speak french, but I am very fluent in Google Translate). Which brings up another thing. Would a discussion of the man-machine interface be part of this group. Specifically the difficulties in teaching a computer processor to speak fluent anything without messing it up.
(I'd be willing to bet it's harder to teach a computer to speak English than most languages...I know my text to speech function on my Kindle makes some interesting attempts at things.)

Way to linguist your way out of a job there Curmudgeon...

I was thinking of starting a section on AI under cognition and language. I'll do it later. Gotta rush off.

Merci... oh, and is there a place to post interesting articles that may, or may not have a place in discussions here? (I have one that I was listening to this morning about Pop Culture.)

which is sort of why I stumbled in here...

The linguistics link folder!
The linguistics link folder!

I'm a dabbler extrordinaire myself. I'm undereducated, have 0 experience as even an ameture linguist. I'm just incredibly curious about .... everything.
They only let me hang out here because I keep soft cuddly bunnies around for...oh...oops.
Attendez! Rabits Reviens. Elle était juste une blague! ... (oh, le ciel est à Jeannot Lapin. Où est-ce Gallut lop earred de Monty Python Sacré Graal lorsque vous avez besoin de lui?)

Got it. Thanks.. um... Merci!

Hi, Dianne. No worries. This looks like a relaxed forum where people can contribute in whichever way they choose. We've all dealt with language in one way or another. There's even a Klingon section. If you know Klingon, you're in!

Please enjoie yourself.

I'm just happy to hang out with a group that appears to love words and language as much as I do.

I started a Pictogram folder. I'm not sure whether that's redundant considering that I started a Semiotics folder.

Hi, Kalliope. Welcome! I thought you would be interested in this, since you are interested in languages.
