This topic is where you can say your thoughts on if there is a God, and if there is, what is he with us for? Please share your opinions, and your reasons for them, I want to know!! But please don't let it get heated otherwise I will delete the topic.

Mishma Great topic Ellie.

Ok.I believe in God.I was raised as a Catholic, and I am a strong believer in God.To me,there's nothing more powerful than Him.But at the same time,I don't think that different religions is necessary. To me,there's only one God.I am naturally a curious person,so I've tried to find out the ways every religion talk about God.My favourite one in that would be the opinion of the Muslims.Overall,in my opinion, there is God,but religions don't matter.

I mean no disrespect to anyone, but I don't believe there is a 'God', because if he was so high and mighty, why would he give some people everything they wanted, and then leave some people to suffer their whole lives? I once asked my friend if she believed in God, and she said "No, because what kind of bastard would leave my family to suffer the way they have?" this is true. I can relate to that. There is no proof that there is a God. I was never raised to believe in a God, so now that I am older, I am becoming curious. At school, religion was always compulsory, so I do know what I'm talking about. My stepdad encourages me to believe, and I refuse to. He says then, that the next times a missionary comes around to our house, that I should question their beliefs and should tell them that God doesn't exist. I told him that he was self-centered and that is a horrible thing to do, that you shouldn't take away someone's life work just because you have questions.
But really, how do we know there is a god, because for all we know, the person who wrote the first testament could have been high on an unknown drug at the time, and then 'God' and the bible could have just been a trend that then evolved into a religion.
I could go on forever on why I don't believe in God, but I'll stop there.
Now, I'm no believer in Satan or the devile, and I hope that no one took any offence to my way of thinking, but this is just my opinion.

Kate Winchester (katewhitetigerlover) | 85 comments God always gives us a choice, Ellie. You've grown up hearing about christians, muslims, catholics, all sorts of different religions out there. But you always have a choice. A choice of what you're going to act like, wear, or even eat. A choice on what you're going to say, how you're going to say it, and how you respond to others. God loves us all, but he doesn't control all of us like robots. We are created in his image, and there will alway be the choice to follow him and his ways.
I think next time you meet with a missionary, you should ask him some questions. Not come out with ' God doesn't exist', that's a conversation killer. But try and take a round-about way. Say how do you know, why do you think.
Now, think about this. Think about the Big Bang Theory (the theory, not the show). Think of how incredibly complex the human body is, how not even the smartest scientists have figured everything out about us. Do you think an accident would have made us so complex? So, rationally, there would have to be a greater force to make that possible. A supernatural being, so to speak.
You're friend has a good point, though. But she can't blame god for her family's problems. As I said bafore, we always have a choice. Her family could've said 'no' to somethigig earlier on in life, and they would be better off today. But all we can do is live in the now. Make your tomorrow better than your yesterday was.Be whoever you want to be, not who people want to you to be.
And remember, it won't last forever.

Amanda (pandwen) | 81 comments I personally am agnostic (don't believe either way). But at the same time do not believe in the bible (or other religious texts I have read) this is of course only talking about the extremists that believe every word is fact rather than stories or life lessons. I am a scientist and as such believe in evolution, the big bang and that not only did dinosaurs exist but that the earth is millions of years old. These are all disputed if you take these texts word for word. That being said what caused the big bang? What determines what attributes animals evolve (there is more than one way to skin a cat)? There is still room for god within modern day science as long as people are not using "faith" to dispute it. However as I have felt no greater calling to any one religion (despite being baptised as a child and studying different religions in high school) I have come to the conclusion that IF there is a god. And IF that god is good. Then he/she/them/it would not sentence someone who has lived their life well to eternal damnation for not worshipping them or simply picking the "wrong" religion. I have no problem with people following their religions as long as they don't impose that religion on others through violence or the banning of personal freedoms such as gay marriage. Everyone has a right to their beliefs but imposing your beliefs on others is no different from atheists banning crucifixes or burning temples.

Mishma It's interesting to know your views. And I agree with Kate. It's a choice. It's what you think. In my country it's rare to see people who don't believe in God.So maybe that's what's made me believe me in Him too.Half of our opinion depends on the way we've raised.
But I think the subject of God,marks territories in life.Just think like this. What will happen if we have no rules,no government,no one to control us?We'll do whatever we want. There'll be no desires,no fears,no dislikes,no right and wrong etc.But that kind of life will be boring and there will be no use in it.It'll definitely bring out destruction. When a person believe in God,and think that he can do anything, they'll fear to do something wrong. In my opinion, our conscience is what we call God.

I don't think there is a God. I have not seen any real proof that a supernatural being exists. The only 'Proof' is the bible, and as Ellie said, anyone could have written it.

message 8: by [deleted user] (new)

Jason I agree and dis-agree with you. Yeah you haven't seen any supernatural being exist but how can you be sure that it never has? I mean things can happen before you're born too right? And about proof there's also the Quraan. See, I'm a Muslim I believe in Allah but I would have believed in the Bible if only people didn't alter it, that's what we believe that people had changed it to suit themselves that's why we believe in the Quraan which was reveled after it. I am a very inquisitive person and don't believe in things unless it has major proof and the Quraan and Islam are so powerful that it's attracting once you start to question. Have you ever read it?, Gone through the principles and rules? Maybe not but there's something called"Sunnah" which means something that our Prophet said, did or liked. They are very small things that is good for us if we do it, but when I studied them I realised everything had a benefit scientifically! Whether it be prayer or posture. I'm putting no pressure but if you're curious then research for your self or just ask me and maybe we all could see life in a new way. Please don't be offended I don't want to discriminate and just to let you know I respect all religions and maybe I have made an error in what I have said. Please do not hesitate to correct me.

message 9: by Chami (new)

Chami | 32 comments hi there everyone! First of all i have to tell that i have no offence to anyone or any religion. i respect every religion that exit in this world. I am a Buddist. our relgion doesn't teach that there is a god. We believe Buddha's teachings. but we are not forced to belive what he has said. According to Buddha we have feedom to question anything in our religion, search and find by ourselves anything we want to believe. And if we find out that it's true altogether with the proofs we believe it. And so far, everything in buddism is true to me.Hence i do not believe in god. But there are some incidents in buddhist history which talk about their presence. But we do not belive in god as christians/catholics or Muslims do, as our belief of god is totally different from them.

Please forgive me if you get offended, which is something i didn't mean at all. And i don't want to discriminate any one.Feel free to correct me if i have said anything wrong and your opinions are highly accepted.

Kate Winchester (katewhitetigerlover) | 85 comments Did you know that over 500 hundred people saw Christ after had had been killed on the cross? Have you ever heard the parable of when Jesus fed the 5,000? He took five loaves of bread and two fish from a child who offered them, and multiplied them to feed all the people who had congregated to hear him speak. Also, hundreds of people witnessed him turn water to wine at a friends wedding.
He also healed the sck, made the blind see, and the lame walk. If those stories were made up, as you say, Ellie, someone must've had a very wild imagination for the time period the Bible has been passed down from.

It is very posible someone had a wild imagination

Kate Winchester (katewhitetigerlover) | 85 comments I know. And i know its very overwhelming to know how many religions there are today, and i'm not saying christianity is the right one, but we all choose to beleive what we want. We all need and explanation to why, or how. Some choose a supernatural being, some choose science, some just let nature do what it wants. Like i said
You always have a choice.

Leah (lepolk) | 31 comments I'm with Kate on this one. I was raised in a Christian (specifically Baptist) home, and I believe that there is a God. Like Kate said, I believe that He made us in His image and gave us free will.
